BRUNER
CARSON - Jewel Dean BRUNER was born in March 1917 in Carson. No day of birth
was given. He died December 11, 1995, at Tulsa Regional Medical Center. Funeral
services were held December 14 at Carson Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth
ROMINE officiating. Interment was in Carson Cemetery.
He graduated from Dustin Public Schools in 1948 and served in he U.S. Army
in the late 40s and early 50s.
He and his wife travelled but usually kept a home in Oklahoma until returning
to Carson in 1980 to live permanently.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Blanche Brandon BRUNER, and three
brothers, Riley BRUNER, Raymond BRUNER, and Eugene BRUNER. He was married
to Otelia Carter BRUNER in 1953 in Clayton, NM. No information was given
on whether she was deceased or survived. He was survived by his father, Roman
BRUNER of Carson; his son, Kimberley Dean BRUNER of Houston,TX; his daughter,
Joan ARMITAGE of Baton Rouge, LA; three grandchildren, Jennifer BRUNER, Ryan
BRUNER, and Kristan ARMITAGE; one sister, Lillie MYERS of Chandler, AZ; and
other relatives and friends.
DEER
HANNA - Franklin Dean DEERE was born April 8, 1970, in Claremore. He died
December 3, 1995, in Oklahoma City. Wake services were held December 7 followed
by funeral services December 8, both held at Hillabee Baptist Church, where
he was a member. Officiating the funeral was Rev. Richard CARR. Interment
was in Hanna Cemetery.
He was a graduate of Jones Academy in 1988. He was preceded in death by his
father, George DEERE, and a son, Triston Dean DEERE in 1989. His survivors
include his mother, Sally Mitchell DEERE; one brother, George DEERE, Jr.,
of Kansas City; two sisters, LuAnn MITCHELL and Jennifer DEERE, both of Oklahoma
City; and other relatives and friends.
ESCOE
MUSKOGEE - William Albert ESCOE (AKA Escoe LaRue) was born January 3, 1904,
in Oktaha. He died December 1, 1995, at his home in Muskogee. A private funeral
service was held December 7 at Butler Creek Baptist Church. No information
was given on the place of interment.
He became a performer under the name of Escoe LaRue, and during his career,
which spanned from Americas vaudeville in the 30s to Europe and the
Ice Capades, he performed with such entertainers as Jimmy Durante, George
Burns, John Barrymore, and Bob Hope. After his retirement, he volunteered
at Muskogee Little Theater, the local Toastmasters, and Muscogee Indian
Community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter James and Sarah Marcum ESCOE;
two sisters, Leona BECKHAM and Lois ESCOE; and a daughter, Linda Lois ESCOE.
He was survived by his wife, Martha Trixie Firschke ESCOE, whom
he married on October 9, 1946, in Cleveland, OH; daughters, Leigh BUILTER
of Greenwich, CN, Vicky KELLY of Mukwonago, WI, Kathleen Escoe SURBEY and
Christie ESCOE, both of Albuquerque, NM; sons, Michael ESCOE of Temple City,
CA, and Mecko ESCOE (no location given); two brothers, Walter Jay ESCOE of
Wichita, KS, and Hershel ESCOE of Ft. Gibson; a sister, Grace JONES of Muskogee;
and grandchildren Tommy BOWEN, and Seth, Nikko, and Joshua ESCOE; and many
other relatives and friends.
GEORGE
HOLDENVILLE - Pauline JoAnn GEORGE was born October 33, 1931, in Seminole
County. She died November 25, 1995, at University Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Funeral services were held November 28 at Many Springs Baptist Church, where
she was a member. Officiating the services were Rev. Amon HARJO and Rev.
Jesse DAVIS. Pallbearers were Bill BESSINGER, Glen ISHAM, Gregg SNEDDON,
Robert MERRIMAN, Brian TRAVIS, and Tommie DENMON. Interment was in the Many
Springs cemetery.
She attended Sequoyah Indian Boarding School in Tahlequah. She worked at
Holdenville Nursing Home and at both the Holdenville and Wewoka hospitals.
She had also been a Sunday school teacher at Many Springs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Betty Harrison PATTY;
one son, Rickie; and two great-granddaughters. Her survivors include her
husband, Mose GEORGE, whom she married on September 18, 1949, in Muskogee;
three sons, Gabe GEORGE, Sr., of Dallas, TX, Clemmie GEORGE of Goshen, KY,
and Rick GEORGE of Holdenville; seven daughters and one adopted daughter,
Queenie BESSINGER, Eva GRIGGS, Eve GEORGE, LouWanda MERRIMAN, Penny ISHAM,
and JoAnn GEORGE, all of Holdenville, Jeanette SNEEDON of Eureka Springs,
AR, and Lee Mae TRAVIS of GA; 28 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren;
nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
GORDON
WELEETKA - George Ivan GORDON was born December 11, 1915, in Dustin. He died
November 7, 1995. No information was given on the date or place of his funeral
or interment.
He graduated from Weleetka High School in 1943, worked in the shipyard of
California as a welder, enlisted in the U.S. Army 7th Armored Division, and
served in Europe during World War II. For his military service he was awarded
many medals, including three Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He was honorably
discharged in 1947 as a disabled veteran with service related injuries. He
graduated from Oklahoma Agriculture and Mechanical Institute in 1951 as a
medical laboratory and x-ray technician. He also held a degree in accounting.
He was employed at Weleetka Medical Clinic, Okemah Rose Clinic, and Okfuskee
Memorial Hospital. He retired in 1971 to pursue his ranching hobby. He was
an active member of the Oklahoma Society of Medical Technicians, National
Society of Medical Technicians, Disabled American Veterans, and the Weleetka
School Board and Weleetka Historical Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Morgan and Pearlie Smith GORDON;
a daughter, Cindy GORDON; a grandson, Cody (GORDON?); a sister, Lottie GORDON;
and a brother, Scott GORDON. He was survived by his wife, Anna Lou Jones
GORDON, whom he married in 1948; daughters, Linda REDDICK of Weleetka, Sharon
WALKER of Okfuskee, and Cathy REDEKER of Prague; four grandchildren, Kimberly
REDDICK of Stillwater, Karie ALLEN of Ada, Keith WALKER of Okfuskee, and
Jessica SCOTT of Okemah; one great-grandson, Travis SCOTT of Okemah; and
two brothers, Carl GORDON and Kyle GORDON, both of Weleetka.
KING
OKEMAH - John Sherman KING was born September 11, 1937, in Okfuskee County.
He died November 30, 1995, at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa. Wake services
were held December 3 followed by funeral services December 4, both held at
Montesoma Baptist Church where he was a member. Pallbearers were Mekko KING,
Matthew KING, Ocfuske James KING, Eric NOON, Luther FACTOR, and Richard WESLEY.
Interment was in the Montesoma church cemetery.
He was a graduate of Okemah High School, attended Bacone College, and graduated
from Oklahoma State Technical School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from
1958 to 1961 when he was honorably discharged. He was a construction
contractor and had also owned King Construction for 15 years. He was a Sunday
school teacher and exhorter at the Montesoma church.
He was the son of David and Annie Morgan KING, both deceased. He was survived
by his wife, Brenda Kay SIMPSON, whom he married May 18, 1991, at Montesoma
Baptist Church; his two sons, John David KING and Bucky Jay KING; his two
daughters, Rebekah KAY KING and Jennifer Lynn KING; three brothers, Earl
KING and David KING, both of Tulsa, and James KING of Tahlequah; one sister,
Florence WALDON of Garland, TX; three grandchildren, Jenny Renee, Molly Taylor,
and Jordan Bacahi (no last names given); and many other relatives and friends.
POWELL
MORRIS - William Wilson POWELL, Jr., was born December 10, 1945,
in Holdenville. He died November 5, 1995. Funeral services were held November
7 at the First Baptist Church, where he was a member. Officiating the service
was Rev. Dave KELLEY. Interment was in Morris Cemetery.
He graduated from Jones Academy in 1965 and was a veteran of the Vietnam
War. He worked as an electrician for 13 years. He was active in the Awanas
Youth Ministry at First Baptist, as well as the bus ministry and teaching
Sunday school.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Rosanna Kanard POWELL.
He was survived by his wife, Carolyn Sevier POWELL, whom he married on January
24, 1970; his son, Ryan KISLING of Durant; his daughter, Debbie MURRAY of
Okmulgee; three brothers, J.C. KANARD of Wewoka, Sandy POWELL of Norman,
and Jimmy POWELL of Del City; two sisters, Lorene BAKER of Stillwater, and
Bonnie JOHNSON of Holdenville; and one grandson, Taylor MURRAY.

FELIX
SAPULPA - Amos FELIX was born January 13, 1928, in Kellyville. He died December
14, 1995, at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa. A prayer service was held
December 17 at Smith Funeral Home, followed by funeral services December
18 at Pickett Chapel United Methodist Church, where he was a member.
Interment was in the Felix Family Cemetery.
He had served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and later worked
as an auto mechanic and at McMichael Concrete Company for 20 years. In addition
to his church membership, he was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars,
the Disabled American Veterans, Kellyville Roundup Club, the Masonic Lodge,
and Kellyville Senior Citizens.
He was survived by his wife, Jencie Rusco FELIX, whom he married on January
10, 1953, in Van Buren, AR; his son, Timothy FELIX of Kellyville; his two
daughters, Paula TABOR of Kellyville, and Robin WHITEHOUSE of Sapulpa; three
sisters, Bessie CAHWEE, Irene PARKINSON, and Sarah WHINERY, all of Kellyville;
and six grandchildren.
HARDIN
OKEMAH - Gerald HARDIN, 68, was born (c. 1927) in Broken Arrow. No date of
birth was given. He died December 28, 1995. Graveside services were held
December 19 at Morse Cemetery with Rev. Charles JONES officiating.
He was a retired Oil field pumper for Russell Ernest. He was the son of Henry
Thomas and Mary Deere HARDIN, both deceased. He was survived by his wife,
Carmaleta Doyle HARDIN, whom he married September 10, 1951, in Little Rock,
AR; his two daughters, Marilyn HADDOX of Catoosa, and Sherryl CONSETH of
Preston; six brothers, Bob HARDIN of Midwest City, Ronald HARDIN of Chickasha,
Marshall HARDIN of Okmulgee, Carol HARDIN of Longview, TX, and Dale HARDIN
and Van HARDIN, both of Okemah; two sisters, Wanda FILE of Scottsdale, AZ,
and Janell SULLIVAN of Okemah; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
HARJO
SALEM - Alexander HARJO was born May 27, 1918, in Ryal. He died January 22,
1996, in Tulsa. Funeral services were held January 24 at Salem Baptist Church,
where he was a member. Officiating the services was Rev. Chuck SCHILLING,
assisted by Rev. John RILEY. Interment was at the Harjo Family Cemetery with
full military honors provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 539.
He attended Ryal School and Graham High School. He was a staff sargeant in
the U.S. Army and a veteran of World War II. After the war, he worked for
General Motors in Long Beach, CA, and then Eagle-Picher Smelter in Henryetta
for 21 years. He also was retired from the Indian Health Service in Okmulgee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Selah and Joker HARJO; two brothers,
John HARJO and Noah HARJO; and one grandson. He was survived by his wife,
Blanche Harris HARJO, whom he married October 21, 1940, in Eufaula; his three
daughters, Joyce ELLIG of Tulsa, Diana LUELLEN of Jenks, and Janice FOWLER;
his son, Bubba HARJO of Henryetta; one brother, Joe HARJO of Okmulgee; one
sister, Melissa STAR of Henryetta; nine grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren.
MCINTOSH
TULSA - Ruby D. MCINTOSH was born July14, 1920. She died, but no information
was given on her age or the date or place of death. Memorial service were
officiated by Rev. Bill THOMPSON, but no date or place was given. Interment
was in Ft. Gibson Military (Cemetery?).
She was survived by her daughter, Danette RUSSELL-GEREN; two grandchildren;
and two great-grandchildren.
NOBLE
BROKEN ARROW - Charles NOBLE was born January 25, 1917. He died November
24, 1995. Funeral services were held November 28 at Arrow Heights Baptist
Church with Rev. Jim KERR officiating. No information was given on survivors.
Casketbearers were Bobby GIPSON, George W. WILLIAMS III, Charles NOBLE, Jr.,
Donald MCINTOSH, Ronald MCINTOSH, and Michael MCINTOSH. Honorary pallbearers
were Roger MCINTOSH, Scott CROUSE, and Robert FRANK.
SCHOONOVER
MUSKOGEE - Vernon SCHOONOVER was born November 23, 1927, at Oktaha. He died
December 11, 1995, at Muskogee Regional Medical Center. Funeral services
were held December 14 at Fosters Ivory Chapel with Rev. Tom SHELTON
officiating. Burial was in Oktaha Cemetery.
He graduated from Oktaha High School in 1944 and was a truck driver for Eastern
Sales from 1962 to 1980. In his retirement, he was the volunteer caretaker
of Ft. Howard Soccer Complex and also took responsibility for the upkeep
on the local Muscogee Indian Community (grounds?).
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank SCHOONOVER. He is survived
by his mother, Alice Thompson SCHOONOVER of Muskogee; his two sons, Vernon
Glenn SCHOONOVER of August, GA, and Carnie E. Gene SCHOONOVER
of Ft. Riley, KS; his daughter, Brenda C. SELLERS of Muskogee; two grandsons,
Stefan and Ramsey SELLERS of Muskogee; a granddaughter, Ciera Jordan SCHOONOVER
of Ft. Riley, KS; two sisters, Virginia TIDWELL of Muskogee, and Lahoma BATES
of Muskogee.
SCOTT
HENRYETTA - Wynetta Copsie SCOTT was born February 13, 1920, in Okfuskee
County. She died January 23, 1996, in Tulsa. Funeral services were held January
27 at the First Assembly of God Church, Henryetta, with Rev. George CHRISTY
officiating. Pallbearers were Bobby CRAWLEY, Kevin CRAWLEY, Wendell CRAWLEY,
Darren CROWLEY, Jim RAYBURN, and Bill QUINTON. Interment was in Dustin Cemetery.
She was a registered nurse and had worked at the Weleetka hospital, the old
Henryetta hospital, and had retired from the Henryetta Medical Center. She
was a member of the First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lena Starr FREEMAN; and
her husband, Hubert SCOTT, whom she married on December 16, 1939, in Eufaula.
She was survived by her son, Doug SCOTT of Henryetta; her daughter, Wynema
STEELE of Broken Arrow; two sisters, Marian CRAWLEY of Weleetka, and Wynema
RAINER of Taos, NM.
SMITH
OKEMAH - Jeanetta SMITH was born April 14, 1930, in Okemah. She died December
24, 1995, in Okemah. Funeral services were held December 17 at Prairie Springs
Baptist Church, where she was a member. Officiating the service was Rev.
Joe BENDER. No information was given on the place of interment.
She was the daughter of Willie and Mettie Harjogee FIXICO, both deceased.
She was survived by her husband, Joe SMITH, whom she married in August 1947
in Okemah; her three sons, Captain John SMITH of Shawnee, and Randolph SMITH
and Jason SMITH, both of Okemah; her two daughters, Betty SMITH of Okemah,
and Gail SMITH of Castle; five brothers; one sister; eight grandsons; two
granddaughters; and one great-grandson.
SMITH
HENRYETTA - Robert SMITH was born May 12, 1952, in Tahlequah. He died December
5, 1995, in Wetumka. Funeral services were held December 8 at Shurden Funeral
Home Chapel with Rev. Larry CHESSLER officiating. Interment was in the New
Sonora Cemetery.
He was a welder by trade and the son of Fred SMITH, deceased and Manie Haynes
Smith CONLEY, who survives. He also was survived by his wife, Vanessa SMITH;
his daughters, Katie SMITH of Wilson, Chelsea SMITH of Henryetta, and Johnna
SMITH of Morris; two brothers, Gerald SMITH and Donald SMITH, both of Dewar;
sister, Brenda SMITH of Okmulgee; five nieces, Brandi FISH, Shannon SMITH,
Krista SMITH, Kyla SMITH, and Kyliea BAKER; and two nephews, Nathon and Arron
SMITH.
STICE
OKMULGEE - Alcie STICE was born November 21, 1908 at Bryant. She died September
18, 1995, at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital. Graveside services were held September
20 at Highland Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mariah Fisher TOMPKINS;
her husband, Henry STICE, in 1937; three sons, Thomas STICE, Jack STICE,
and Kenneth STICE; two brothers, John and Fred (no last names given); and
one sister, Della ESTLER.
She was survived by one son, Ralph STICE of Oklahoma City; two daughters,
Ruth PERRY of Paden, and Ruby SANDERS of Tulsa; 13 grandchildren and 20 great
grandchildren.
TIGER
TIGER FARM CEMETERY - Jess J.H. TIGER was born July 30, 1923,
in Bristow. He died January 10, 1996, in Tulsa. Wake services were held January
11 in the Hutchins-Maples Funeral Home Chapel followed by funeral services
January 12 at the Tiger Farm Cemetery, with Rev. Jack DAVIS officiating.
He attended Gypsy School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II
from March 12, 1943 to December 23, 1945. He owned a gas station until retiring
in 1977 when he began farming. He was a member of the Bristow Veterans of
Foreign Wars Post 3656 and Bristow Indian Community Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Elva Laxton TIGER; his
wife, Jesse Cook Tiger, whom he married March 7, 1947, in Bakersfield, CA;
a son, Henry TIGER; two brothers; and two sisters. He was survived by his
children, Shirley TIGER and Jack TIGER, both of Tulsa; a half-brother; six
grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
TIGER
DAVIS - Robert Eugene Bobby TIGER was born August 9, 1947, in
Sapulpa. He died January 15, 1996, at Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Funeral services were held January 17 at the First Baptist Church, where
he was a member. Services were conducted by Rev. Finis STEELMAN.
He was the American Indian counselor at Davis Public Schools. He was the
son of Waxen and Annie Brown TIGER, both deceased. He was survived by his
daughter, Carrie BUSBY of Davis; his son, Kevin TIGER of Davis; five brothers,
Luther TIGER of Bristow, Paul TIGER and Cecil TIGER, both of Sapulpa, Kenneth
TIGER of Hectorville, and Darrell TIGER of Okmulgee; and six grandchildren.

BRASUELL
EUFAULA - Jennie Mae BRASUELL was born in Stidham. No date of birth or age
was given. She died February 3, 1996, at her home. Funeral services were
held February 6 at Merrit Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Ernest BEST
officiating. Pallbearers were Abe MCINTOSH, Phil MCINTOSH, Roley MCINTOSH,
Stacy MCINTOSH, Stanley MCINTOSH, Vann MCINTOSH, Mac WHITSON, and Neal WHITSON.
Interment was in the Hawkins-McIntosh Cemetery.
She was a member of Big Arbor Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by
her parents, Thomas and Susan Island MCINTOSH; her husband, Burl BRASUELL;
two children, Harley BRASUELL and Nina Lou BRASUELL; and a grandson, Michael
WOLFE.
She was survived by daughters, Wynona WOLFE and Burldene GARDNER, both of
Ketchum, Johnnie Mae BRASUELL of Catoosa; sons, Leo BRASUELL of Tulsa, Perry
Jack BRASUELL of Monterey, CA, Wallace BRASUELL of Houston; a sister, Lahoma
WHITSON of McAlester; brothers, Boney MCINTOSH, Sandy MCINTOSH, and Thomas
MCINTOSH, all of Stidham; ten grandchildren, 21great-grandchildren, and many
nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
BROWN
TWIN HILLS - Felix BROWN, Sr., was born August 13, 1930, in Bristow. He died
February 11, 1996, in Okmulgee. Funeral services were held February 14 at
Concharty United Methodist Church with Rev. George MILLER and Rev. Jake WILDCAT
officiating. Pallbearers were Clifford LITTLEBEAR, Montie BROWN, Ruben BROWN,
Roger BARNETT, Billy Jack WILSON, and Jimmy GIBSON. Honorary pallbearers
were J.D. BROWN, Spencer FRANK, Ty HICKS, Jason JACKSON, Dimmie WASHBURN,
Newman LITTLEBEAR, and Matthew LITTLEBEAR. Interment was in the Tecumseh
Family Cemetery.
He was in the U.S. Marine Corps and received the Korean Service Medal, the
United Nations Medal, and the National Defense Medal during his service.
He was the chief of Duck Creek Ceremonial Ground.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cah-ka-le-co-conthla (Ted) BROWN
and Nellie FRANK; and his sisters, Jane TIGER and Frances RYAN. He was survived
by his wife, Florence BROWN, of the home; sons, Felix BROWN, Jr., of the
home, Frederick BROWN of Okmulgee, Franklin BROWN of Morris, and Floyd BROWN
of Mounds; brothers, Eugene BROWN of Mounds, and Charlie BROWN of Tulsa;
a sister, Ina GIBSON of Mounds; eight granddaughters; and one grandson.
MCCOMBS
HANNA - Rev. Dave MCCOMBS was born July 22, 1907, in McIntosh County, I.T.
He died February 7, 1996, at his home near Dustin. Funeral services were
held February 10 at Weogufkee Baptist Church with Rev. James COLBERT and
George JESSE officiating. Pallbearers were Randy LEEPER, Adrian MAXEY, Truman
MAXEY, Andrew PROCTOR, Darrell PROCTOR, and Jerry SANDERS. Interment was
in Weogufkee Cemetery.
He lived near the Vivian community and attended Oak Grove Day School and
later Bacone College. He served in the U.S. National Guard. He was ordained
to the ministry in 1959 at Weogufkee Baptist Church where he had served as
a Sunday school teacher, clerk, and treasurer. He also served in the
Muscogee-Seminole-Wichita Indian Baptist Association as treasurer, executive
board treasurer, Bible school convention chairman, and association secretary.
He served as pastor of Tulmuchussee Baptist Church and at Weogufkee for 16
years.
He was the son of James and Ella MCINTOSH, both deceased. He was survived
by his wife, Sarah Thomas MCCOMBS, of the home, whom he married in December
1939 at Eufaula; his daughter, Rosemary MAXEY of Westminster, MD; two grandsons,
David MAXEY of Stillwater, and Truman MAXEY of Westminster, MD; four brothers,
James MCCOMBS of Talihina, Thomas MCCOMBS, Elmer MCCOMBS, and Perry MCCOMBS,
all of Eufaula; a sister, Martha MCCOMBS of Okmulgee; a nephew, Jimmy FISHER
of Dustin; and several other relatives and friends.
PENA
OKFUSKEE - Liza Timothy PENA was born December 12, 1932, at Pierce. She died
in 1996. No date or place of death was given. Funeral services were held
February 7, 1996, at Okfuskee Baptist Church, where she was a member. Officiating
the services were Rev. Raymond BEAVER and Rev. Leon POSTOAK. Pallbearers
were Mitchell BEAVER, Thomas BUIE, Rufus COX, Christopher FEELING, Jackie
FEELING, Jr., and Scott SCHUNK. Interment was in Okfuskee Cemetery.
She was a board member of the Oklahoma City Muscogee (Creek) Association,
a Mvskoke language instructor, and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Mary Beatrice TIMOTHY;
brother, John TIMOTHY; and sisters, Elsie Mae SMITH, Ramona TIMOTHY, and
Jerlena TIMOTHY. No information was given about survivors.
SULLIVAN
EUFAULA - Jorene SULLIVAN was born October 24, 1931, at Vivian. She died
February 12, 1996, at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa. Funeral services

She was a graduate of Eufaula High School and became a licensed practical
nurse. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Bessie McCombs
SULLIVAN; two sisters, Gladys MULLINS and Martha Jane HOWARD; four brothers,
August SULLIVAN, Stoddard SULLIVAN, Newman SULLIVAN and Robert SULLIVAN.
She was survived by her daughters, Renee Lu BURRIS of Dallas; three
grandchildren, Melissa BURRIS and Reggie BURRIS, both of Dallas, and Jeremy
COLBERT of Eufaula; two sisters, Geneva COLBERT and Mae SULLIVAN, both of
Eufaula; three nieces and two nephews.
SULPHUR
EUFAULA - Woodrow Woody SULPHUR was born June 17, 1912. He died
February 9, 1996, at his home in Eufaula. Funeral services were held February
9 (?) at the Merritt Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Amos BEAN and Rev.
Raymond BEAVER officiating. Pallbearers were Clem LEWIS, Morris LEWIS, Gene
MCGIRT, Kenneth TIGER, and Gary WALKER. Honorary pallbearers were Gene BURRIS,
David FRANCIS, Robert FRANCIS, Mike MCGIRT, and John Mark TIGER. Interment
was in the Sulphur family cemetery.
He was a civil service worker and a member of West Eufaula Baptist Church.
He was the son of James and Jennie Grayson SULPHUR, both deceased. Also preceded
him in death were his wife, Elanor Brown SULPHUR; a son, Emanuel SULPHUR;
a sister, Ellen SULPHUR; three brothers, Andrew SULPHUR, Willie SULPHUR,
and James SULPHUR; and a half-brother, Alex SULPHUR.
His survivors include his daughters, Louella NISWONGER of Checotah, Channena
DAVIS of Hanna, Patricia BELFORD of Norman, Linda JOHNSON of Wewoka, Sylvia
REININGER of Oklahoma City, and Sandra GODDARD of Newkirk; his sons Elwood
SULPHUR, Leroy SULPHUR, and Woodrow SULPHUR, Jr., all of Eufaula; 14
grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
WALTER
LAMAR - Clarence Benjamin WALTER was born July 8, 1937. He died January 30,
1996, at Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Funeral services were
held February 3 at Middle Creek #1 Baptist Church with Rev. Dave LONG, Jr.
and Rev. Joe BURNER officiating. Pallbearers were Chris CERDA, Russell COKER,
Jr., Sam HOOSH, David MONTOYA, Eddie NAJAR, and Allen NEITZEL. Interment
was in the Lamar Cemetery.
He attended Lamar and Chilocco schools and worked for Manhattan Cleaners
for 18 years. He was the son of Walter and Mildred McGirt WALTER. His mother
survived and lived in Lamar. He also is survived by his wife, Shirley Ripley
LAMAR, whom he married in 1959; his three daughters, Susan WALTER, Lisa WALTER
and Carrie WALTER, all of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren, two
great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends.

BIGPOND
SAPULPA - Rev. Roy BIGPOND was born August 11, 1923, in Mounds. He died in
March 1996. No day of death was given. Funeral services were held March 13
at Picket Chapel United Methodist Church, where he was a member. Rev. George
MILLER and Rev. Alvin DEERE officiated. No information was given on the place
of interment.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded a Purple Heart.
He served as chair of the Ordained Ministers Association and Retired United
Methodist Senior Citizens. He had pastored many churches.
He was preceded in death by his son, Roy BIGPOND, Jr.; a sister, Alice ROACH;
and a brother, Matthew TIGER. He was survived by his wife, Harriet BIGPOND
of the home; three sons, Gene BIGPOND of Sapulpa, Negiel BIGPOND of Mounds,
and Tim BIGPOND of Preston; a daughter, Pauline HARJO of Phoenix; two sisters,
Ruth OLNEY of Toppenish, WA, and Phyllis BIGPOND of Phoenix; 11 grandchildren,
and two great-grandchildren.
BROWN
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO - John W. BROWN was born January 19, 1928, in Sapulpa.
He died November 9, 1995, at St. Francis Medical Center. Funeral services
were held November 12 at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel with Rev. Cy
SMITH officiating. Interment was in Memorial Park.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He owned Eds
Bar for 19 years, was a chief engineer for several companies, and retired
in 1980 from J & M Towing in Bethalto, IL. He was a member of the American
Legion and Eagles Aerie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Nora Davis BROWN; and
two brothers. He was survived by his wife, Jaynne Waters BROWN, whom he married
in June 1983; his son, John BROWN, Jr., of Alton, IL; his three daughters,
Carol ADAMS and Sandra KENNY of Ashland, and Penny McCORMICK of Brighton,
IL; two stepsons, James YANCY of Blodgett, John YANCY of Ft. Pierce, FL;
a stepdaughter, Jeneene CUNNINGHAM of Chaffee; a brother, Henry BROWN, Jr.
of Tulsa; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and step grandchildren.
GIBSON
BIXBY - Ina B. GIBSON was born March 5, 1938, in Bristow. She died March
11, 1996. No information was given on the date or place of her funeral.
Pallbearers were Chuck SLINKER, Sonny RYAN, Monte BROWN, Franklin BROWN,
W.C. TIGER, and Ruben BROWN. Honorary pallbearers were Eugene BROWN, Charlie
BROWN, Paul TIGER, Darrell TIGER, and Jack WEST. Interment was at Bixby Cemetery.
She was a member of Snake Creek Baptist Church and Duck Creek Ceremonial
Ground and the daughter of Ted BROWN and Nellie STALEY, both deceased. She
was survived by her husband, Kenneth G. TIGER, of the home; her daughter,
Katie GIBSON, of the home; her two sons, Bobby GIBSON of Tonkawa, and Gibb
GIBSON of the home; brothers, Eugene BROWN of Mounds, and Charlie BROWN of
Tulsa; two granddaughters, Oleta BROWN of the home, and Darianne Alexander
GIBSON of Tonkawa; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relative and friends.
KING
TALLAHASSEE - Peggy Berryhill KING was born September 11, 1900, in Indian
Territory. She died Marcy 10, 1996. Funeral services were held March 13 at
Tallahassee Methodist Church, where she was a member. Rev. Sammy CHUPCO
officiated the service. Pallbearers were Brett FREELAND, David HARDMAN, Allan
HENSLEY, Richard MASON, Jack RAINS, and Clifford SHILLING. Honorary pallbearers
were Darrell CLARK, Kelvin CLARK, Travis CLARK, Patrick FREELAND, and Taylor
SHILLING. Interment was in tallahassee Cemetery.
She was an original allottee and had attended Nuyaka Mission and Eufaula
Boarding School. She was blessed to see the resurrection of her church,
Tallahassee Methodist, and attended some services when she could. She was
preceded in death by her parents, Alec and Annie BERRYHILL; her husband,
Caesar A. KING; eleven brothers and sisters; and two daughters. She was survived
by her son, Jackson KING of Muskogee; one daughter, Ann K. HARDMAN of Tahlequah;
one sister, Mahalia CHALAKEE of Okmulgee; 13 grandchildren, 22
great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; several nieces,
nephews and many friends.
LONG
OKLAHOMA CITY - David LONG was born September 12, 1922, in Dustin. He died
March 2, 1996, in Oklahoma City. Funeral services were held March 5 at Bill
Merritt South Chapel with Rev. Wallace GAMBLER officiating. Pallbearers were
Dana LONG, Jeff BERRY, Herd PLEDGER, Zac STAINCAMP, Joel PLATT, Billy ROGERS,
and Tony ENRIQUEZ. Interment was in Sunny Lane Cemetery in Del City. No
information was given about family or survivors.
PROCTOR
HANNA - Lewis Pauwa PROCTOR was born in Hanna. No information
was give on his age or date of birth. He died February 18, 1996, at his home.
Funeral services were held February 21 at his home with Rev. John BILLY and
Rev. Bo JOHNSON officiating. Pallbearers were Mekko TYNER, Nathaniel HARJO,
Oscar HARJO, Earnest VOICE, Chris WARE, Noah TIGER, Zerndorf BILLY, Jr.,
and Sema HOBIA. Honorary pallbearers were Yahola TOWNSEND and Thomas McINTOSH.
No information was given on the place of interment. He was Mekko of Tallahassee
Wvkokaye Ceremonial Ground. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and
received the Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon,
EAME Theater Ribbon, and three Bronze Service Stars. He was employed by the
Naval Ammunition Depot in McAlester. He worked as a laborer before retiring
and enjoyed attending gospel singings at Trenton Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Johnson PROCTOR; his wife, Gracine
Bullet PROCTOR; two children; two sisters, Ella Proctor BILLY and Mandy Proctor
LOWE; and one brother, Andy PROCTOR. He is survived by three brothers;
one sister; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; other relatives and
friends.
BUTLER
HILLABEE - Andrew F. BUTLER was born May 25, 1920, in Hanna. He died March
13, 1996, at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital. Wake services were held March 15
followed by funeral services March 16, both held at Hillabee Baptist Church
with Rev. Morris BARNETT officiating the funeral. Pallbearers were Roger
BUTLER, Ronald BUTLER, Randall BUTLER, Janssen BUTLER, Vincent BUTLER, Wesley
BUTLER, Jr., Cory BUTLER, and Marcus PIGEON. Honorary pallbearers were Brandon
Pigeon, Roman HILL, Houston HICKS, and Joe HICKS. Interment was in the Butler
Family Cemetery.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Weogufkee Baptist
Church. He was employed by Bunte Candy Company as a candy maker.
He was the son of Eddie S. and Lucy Harjo BUTLER, both deceased. He is survived
by his four daughters, Leta MARSHALL of Hanna, Edna BELCHER of Eufaula, Julia
BUTLER of Oklahoma City, and Christine BUTLER of Tulsa; his two sons, Wesley
BUTLER and Andy BUTLER, both of Okmulgee; two sisters, Lillie GOUGE of Henryetta,
and Eliza MITCHELL of Hanna.
