FIELDS
HENRYETTA - Buddy FIELDS was born March 5, 1918. He died October 18, 1994.
Funeral services were held October 20 in the Shurden Chapel with Rev. Tommy
WEAVER officiating. Pallbearers were Clayton DODGE, Jim LANE, Woxie RYAL,
Larry HARJO, Warren HARJO, and Paul HARJO. Honorary pallbearers were Robert
PRENDLY, Thurman HIGGENS, George HICKS, Houston HICKS, and Doyle CUNNINGHAM.
Interment was in the Hanna Cemetery.
He was retired from Phillips Petroleum Company and a member of Grace Assemly
Church. He was a World War II veteran.
He married Gladys HARRIS in 1942. She survives. He also was survived by his
daughter, Mary EWING of Lubbock, TX; his son, Don FIELDS of Amarillo, TX;
one grandson and two granddaughters.
STARR
RYAL - Lena Taylor STARR was born February 4, 1919, in Henryetta. She died
in December 1993 at St.Francis Hospital, Tulsa. No day of death was given.
Funeral services were held December 19 at Hickory Ground No. 2 Baptist Church,
where she was a member. Rev. John BUCKNER officiated the service. Her grandsons
served as pallbearers. Interment was in the Starr Family Cemetery.
She was the daughter of Marchie and Martha Fixico TAYLOR, both deceased.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Eli STARR; daughter, Rose
STARR, Granddaughter, Stephanie (no last name given); great-granddaughter,
Alyssa; brother Louis TAYLOR; and sisters Jeanetta HARJO and Ella FRYE. She
was survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Nell STARR of Wewoka,
and James and Loretta STARR of Ada; daughters and sons-in-law, Mandy and
Ben HILL of Dustin, Sally and Bobby JACKSON of Okmulgee, Janie Linda and
Doug PARKS of Moline, IL, Allene and Roy STARR of El Reno, Emma FACTOR, and
Amy and Jerry REAGAN, all of Morris; sister, Cindy HOLAHTA of Okemah;
half-sister, Addie Taylor LEWIS of Talala; half-brother, Mitchell (no last
name given) of Henryetta; and 29 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, several
nieces and nephews, and a host of friends and relatives.
KNIGHT
EUFAULA - Jennie Fife KNIGHT was born October 2, 1907, in Okmulgee. She died
December 13, 1993, at the Creek Nation Community Hospital. Wake services
were held at the home of Hannah KNIGHT in Okemah with funeral services following
on December 16 at the Merritt Cottage Chapel. Pallbearers were Joe HOLAHTA,
Jim MCGERTT, Elton JIMBOY, Bob SHIRLEY, Joe BARNETT, and Johnnie WARRIOR.
Interment was in the Knight Family Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents, July and KeMary FIFE; her husband
Wiley S. KNIGHT, and her son, Chester KNIGHT. She was survived by her five
daughters, Mary PENDERGRAFT, Nora McGERTT, Birdie BEAR, all of Okemah, and
Betty GRAY of Okmulgee; her three sons, Bobby KNIGHT of Moore, Walter KNIGHT
of Tulsa, and Charles KNIGHT of Oklahoma City; 18 grandchildren, 31 great
grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
HILL
MORRIS - Cindy Irene HILL was stillborn December 3, 1993. Graveside services
were held December 7 at Big Cussetah Cemetery. Her survivors include her
parents, Della Marie JACKSON and Bill D. HILL; grandmother, Lo Vanna JACKSON;
and grandfather, Toney HILL.

BENTON
HENRYETTA - Daniel BENTON was born February 18, 1901. He died January 16,
1994, in Oklahoma City. Wake services were held January 18 followed by funeral
services January 19 at Shurden Funeral Chapel in Henryetta. No information
was given on the place of interment.
He was retired from Frisco Railroad. He was preceded in death by his wife,
Tinnie Roberts BENTON, and one granddaughter. His survivors include his
daughters, Mattie Jo CASTRO of Oklahoma City, Lillian MAXWELL of Stigler,
and Senora WALLACE of Henryetta; 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
BERRYHILL
WILSON - Almer W. BERRYHILL, Jr., was born September 24, 1954. He died in
January 1994. Graveside services were held January 7 at the Berryhill
Family Cemetery with Rev. Robert Jones officiating. Interment was in the
Berryhill Family Cemetery.
He was a self employed welder and a U.S. Army veteran. He was the son of
Molly TIGER and the late Almer BERRYHILL. His survivors include his mother,
of Muskogee, his daughters, Rhonda BERRYHILL and Sheila BERRYHILL, both of
Oklahoma City; brother, Tony BERRYHILL of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; sisters, Patricia
HOLT of Muskogee, and Kathey BLALOCK of Amarillo, TX; four nieces and two
nephews.
BRUNER
RYAL - Emma BRUNER was born March 1, 1913, in Ryal. She died December 27,
1993, at Okemah. Funeral services were held December 31 at Hickory
Ground Baptist Church No. 2, where she was a member. Rev. Robert WASHINGTON
officiated the service. No information was given on the place of interment.
She had been womens leader at the Hickory Ground church. She was preceded
in death by her husband, Bunnie John BRUNER. She is survived by her sons,
Louis Lett BRUNER and Jake BRUNER, both of Wichita, KS, and Albert BRUNER
of Mounds; her daughters, Elouise GAMBLER of Henryetta, Elizabeth BARNETT
of Lamar; a brother, Claude FIELDS of Henryetta; 25 grandchildren, 47 great
grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
BUTLER
HILLABEE - Roman Cooksey BUTLER was born July 20, 1940, at Hanna. He died
in December 1993. Funeral services were held January 1, 1994, at Hillabee
Baptist Church, where he was a member. Interment was in the Butler Family
Cemetery.
He was a laborer and the son of Andrew and Ella Bullet BRUNER. His father
survives. His other survivors include his daughters, Ramona BUTLER of Tulsa,
Ruth HOWE of Ponca City, and Carolyn NOREIGA of Dustin; his sons, Roger BUTLER
of Shawnee, Janssen BUTLER of Eufaula, and Ronald BUTLER and Randall BUTLER,
both of Tulsa; brothers, Wesley BUTLER of Tulsa, and Andy BUTLER of Hanna;
sisters, Christina BUTLER of Hanna, Edna BELCHER of Eufaula, and Leta MARSHALL
and Julia GUIJON, both of Oklahoma City; and 16 grandchildren.
FIFE
DUSTIN - James George FIFE was born March 28, 1904, in Dustin. He died January
10, 1994. Funeral services were held January 13 at Thewarle Baptist Church
with Rev. Mitchell TAYLOR officiating, assisted by Rev. Eastman WHITLOW.
Pallbearers were Al WILSON, Ed MOUSS, Bob STEWART, Lonnie Ray HYDE, Michael
MEDEIROS, and Leland BEAR. Honorary pallbearers were Jack ROBERTSON, Doyle
PUCKETT, Newman BUNNY, John David KING, Milford E. KING, and Jimmy Gaines
EVANS.
Interment was in the Fife Family Cemetery.
He had attended Euchee Boarding School, Dustin High School, and Oklahoma
A and M. He had coached and played on amateur and semi-professional baseball
teams. He was a farmer and retired from Amoco Oil Company in 1969.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Willia Carmen Griffith FIFE; his parents,
Rev. Sandy and Louisa Lowe FIFE; his daughter, Hanna Louise FIFE; and nephews,
James Harold KING and Dan Lincoln KING. His survivors include his children
and their spouses, Muscogee (Creek) Nation Principal Chief Bill FIFE of Weleetka
(and Mary), Timmie FIFE and Brian FIFE (Sheila and Illa), both of Dustin,
Jimmie Carole Stewart of Washington (Robert Stewart), Sharon Mouss of Henryetta
(Ed Mouss), Phyllis FIFE of Tahlequah, Sandy WILSON of Morris (Al Wilson),
and Robin FIFE of the home; 18 grandchildren, three great grandchildren,
and several nieces and nephews.
GAY
OKMULGEE - Lucy Virginia GAY was born October 30, 1919. She died December
18, 1993, in Okmulgee. Graveside services were held December 20 at Okmulgee
Cemetery with Rev. Bob BURCH officiating.
She was the daughter of Mose and Millie CHISOLM, both deceased. She was survived
by her daughters, Joyce MATHENY of Tahlequah, and Virginia FOUST and Darla
YOCHAM, both of Okmulgee; her son, Bob SMITH of Tulsa; six grandchildren
and 15 grandchildren.
HANEY
MOORE - James Andrew HANEY was born January 8, 1957. He died December 15,
1993. Funeral services were held December 17 at First Indian Baptist Church
of Moore, where he was a member. Rev. Victor COPE officiated the service.
Pallbearers were Thomas FIXICO, Howard HANEY, Allen MOUSE, Robert COWAN,
James COWAN, and Larry GOODWIN. Interment was in the Seminole Hitchitee Cemetery.
He was a musician and singer with the bands Featherwing and Bo Dock. He also
sang with Berryhills Quartet. He died of injuries sustained in an
automobile-pedestrian accident.
He was survived by his wife, Bobbie HANEY of Shawnee; stepdaughter, Stephanie
of the home; sisters, Alice PORTER of Shawnee, Kissie MOUSE of Mustang, Madeline
AMOS of Oklahoma City, and Ruth HANEY of Tulsa; and his brother, Thomas FIXICO.
HICKS
HENRYETTA - Leo Lee HICKS, Sr., was born March 5, 1942. He died December
25, 1993,, in Lancaster TX. Funeral services were held December 31 at the
Merritt Cottage Chapel. Interment was in the Weogufkee Cemetery.
He was a mechanic and the son of Edmond and Louise Deere HICKS, both deceased.
He was married to Liza Mae HICKS February 17, 1967. She survives. He also
was survived by his daughter, Diane Denise HICKS of Henryetta; his son, Leo
Lee HICKS, Jr., of Henryetta; sister, Annette MILLER of Checotah; two
grandchildren, seven nieces, and five nephews.
JOSHUA
HICHITA - Martin Eugene JOSHUA was born November 24, 1967. He died January
4, 1994, in Oklahoma City. Funeral services were held January 8 at Grave
Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Robert WASHINGTON officiating, assisted by
Rev. Chris HARJO and Rev. Legus LOWE. Pallbearers were Younger CARPETCHER,
Thomas DUNN, John BEAR, Jr., Monty KERNELL, Frankie WALKER, and Thomas GENTRY.
Honorary pallbearers were Stuart WILLIAMS, Erick POSTOAK, Kelly FIXICO, and
Robert WASHINGTON, Jr. Interment was in the Grave Creek Cemetery.
He was an electrician and the son of Martin JOSHUA and Janie BEAR, who survive.
He was preceded in death by an uncle, John BEAR. In addition to his parents,
his other survivors include his maternal grandmother, Alice FREEMAN of Oklahoma
City; paternal grandmother, Annie GOODEN of Holdenville; brothers, Fous AHAISSE
and Coacoche AHAISSE, both of Shawnee, and Todd JOSHUA and Mark JOSHUA, both
of Oklahoma City; sisters, Regina JOSHUA and Alicia JOSHUA, both of Oklahoma
City, and Takoche AHAISSEE of Shawnee; stepbrother, Frankie WALKER of Oklahoma
City; six aunts; three uncles; a niece, a nephew, and a host of friends.
MITCHELL
HANNA - JayDe JoBuc MITCHELL was born July 29, 1971, in Tahlequah.
He died January 20, 1994, in Shawnee. A wake service was held January 13
with funeral services following January 14 at Trenton Baptist Church with
Rev. Sam MITCHELL officiating. Pallbearers were Henry HICKS, Thomas HICKS,
Legus MITCHELL, Johnny K. MITCHELL, Tommy Ray MITCHELL, and Jeremy MITCHELL.
Burial was in the Mitchell Family Cemetery.
He was a laborer and served two years in the U.S. Navy. He was the son of
Tony and Cilla Harjo MITCHELL. He was preceded in death by his mother and
three brothers, Quinton MITCHELL, Jakie MITCHELL, and Joel Duane MITCHELL.
He was survived by his father and stepmother, Jean MITCHELL, brothers, Danny
MITCHELL of Seminole, Johnny MITCHELL of Norman , Jason MITCHELL of Shawnee,
and Anthony MITCHELL of the home; sisters, Judith MITCHELL of Tulsa, and
Tana MITCHELL of Shawnee.
PRIMEAUX
MUSKOGEE - Lena B. PRIMEAUX was born April 2, 1926, in Lenna. She died January
2, 1994. Funeral services were held January 6 in the Bradley Belltower Chapel
with Rev. Kenneth LOMA officiating. Pallbearers were David WILSON,
Leroy ADAIR, Norman DANIEL, Jackie MCCOY, and Washington CUMMINGS. Honorary
pallbearers were George WILSON, George HOGNER, Tommy MCCOY, William BROWN,
John KELLY, Ray BUSHA, Felix SORGEE, Mark BEAVER, Rex BAKER, and James NIXON.
No information was given on the place of interment.
She attended Eufaula Indian Boarding School, Eufaula High School, and Haskell
Institute. She was a homemaker and worked at the Muskogee County Community
Services. She also was a former officer of the Muskogee Indian Community
and volunteer with the tribal election board.
She was married to Elmer PRIMEAUX of June 6, 1945, in Eufaula. He preceded
her in death, as did her father, Walter BEAVER. She is survived by her mother,
Jeanetta BARNETT of Stidham; her son, Floyd PRIMEAUX of Bartlesville; her
daughters, Leah WILSON of Warrensburg, MO, Brenda BROWN of Broken Arrow,
Geneva HOGNER and Teresa MCCOY, both of Muskogee; brothers, Samuel BEAVER
of Stidham, Emmanuel BARNETT of Muskogee, and Joe Ray BARNETT of Okmulgee;
nine grandchildren, two aunts, and several nieces and nephews.
RANDALL
HENRYETTA - Nelson C. RANDALL was born September 9, 1958, in Tulsa. He died
January 13, 1994, in the Veterans Hospital in Oklahoma City. A wake service
was held January 16 with funeral services following January 17 at Arbeka
Baptist Church, where he was a member. Rev. John LOWE and Christopher HARJO
officiated the funeral service. Pallbearers were Wilbert LOWE, Jacob LOWE,
Rick POWELL, Freeland POWELL, David HALE, and Rusty POWELL.
He was a truck mechanic and had served his military service in the U.S. Coast
Guard. He was the son of Willie C. and Mary Little RANDALL. His survivors
include his mother, his father and his stepmother, Vena RANDALL, all of Okmulgee;
his children, Stephanie RANDALL and Jeremy RANDALL, both of Lonoke, AR; brothers
Ronnie RANDALL and Donnie RANDALL, both of Tulsa; sisters, Diane RANDALL
of Okmulgee, Sonja RANDALL of Okemah, and Wilma RANDALL of Tulsa.
RICHARD
HITCHITA - Eastman RICHARD was born September 2, 1913, In Checotah. He died
December 16, 1993, in Muskogee. Funeral services were held December 21 at
Grave Creek Baptist Church. Interment was in the Grave Creek Cemetery.
He was survived by his sister, Leona FOX; his children, Eastman Leon RICHARD,
Wesley RICHARD, Bill RICHARD, and Janelle JOHNSON; nine grandchildren and
five great-grandchildren.
SMITH
HENRYETTA - Sarah Jane SMITH was born June 7, 1913, in Weleetka. She died
December 11, 1993, at her home. Funeral services were held December 14 at
Shurden Chapel with Rev. Don WALKER officiating. Pallbearers were Billy
WILLIAMS, Barton WILLIAMS, Roy FISH, Larry LUELLEN, Don SMITH, and Jonathan
RILEY. No information was given on the place of interment.
She was a homemaker and attended Hutchachuppa Baptist Church. She married
Willis SMITH June 10, 1952, in Little Rock, AR. He preceded her in death.
She was survived by her children and their spouses, Bruce SMITH, Brent SMITH,
and Byron SMITH, all of Weleetka; daughters-in-law Vicky SMITH and Rita SMITH,
both of Weleetka, daughters Barbara SMITH of Weleetka, and Susie SHAIKH of
Edmond (Mohammed Shaikh); sisters Millie BOWMAN of Fort Thomas, AZ, and Ann
DAVIS of Henrietta, TX; seven grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
WALKER
RYAL - Alex WALKER was born January 25, 1912, in Okmulgee County. He died
January 10, 1994. Song services were held January 11 at Merritt Cottage
Chapel followed by funeral services in the home of Elsie Lowery with Rev.
Barney WALKER officiating the service. Pallbearers were Barney WALKER, Jr.,
Tommy WALKER, Allen LOWERY, Roley TAYLOR, Leo HARLEY, and Newman TAYLOR.
Interment was in Hickory Ground No. 2 Cemetery.
He was a retired laborer and a member of Hickory Ground Baptist Church No.
2. He was the son of Dick and Minda Harjo WALKER, both deceased. He was also
preceded in death by his wife, Johnnie May McNac WALKER; sisters, Ella TAYLOR
and Hepsey FRYE; half-sister Minnie GRAY; and brother, Robert WALKER. He
was survived by his brothers, Rev. WALKER of Holdenville, and George WALKER
of Ryal; several nieces and nephews, and many friends.
YARGEE
WETUMKA - Sam Wilson YARGEE was born June 6, 1936, in Wetumka. He died January
13, 1994, in Ada. Funeral services were held January 17 at Wetumka Indian
Baptist Church with Rev. Alex BUCK and Rev. Jim WESLEY officiating. Interment
was in the Yeager Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Lesta Barnett YARGEE;
and his brother, Roman YARGEE. He was survived by his stepmother, Winey YARGEE
of Holdenville; brothers, Joseph YARGEE and David YARGEE of Shawnee, Tarpie
YARGEE of Seminole, Henry YARGEE of Wright City, Robert YARGEE of Fore, Jack
YARGEE of Eufaula, and Phillip YARGEE of Wewoka; sisters, Evelyn MCLEMORE
of Tennessee, Bessie TALAMASY of Bowlegs, Rovena YARGEE and Josephine YARGEE,

DUSTIN - Abraham BUNNY was born April 6, 1919, in Dustin. He died January
28, 1994, in Tulsa. Funeral services were held February 1 at Thewarle Baptist
Church, where he was a member. Rev. Mitchell TAYLOR officiated the service.
Pallbearers were Gaines BUNNY, Farron BUNNY, David SLOAD, Bobby FRYE, Johnny
FRYE, and Johnny FRYE, Jr. Interment was in the Fife Family Cemetery.
He was a retired Muscogee Nation security guard and a veteran of the U.S.
Army. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Harjo BUNNY; his parents,
George and Sallie Hanson BUNNY; a brother, James BUNNY, and a sister, Irene
Odom BUNNY. He was survived by his children, Betty BUNNY and Dennis BUNNY,
both of Okmulgee; son-in-law, David SLOAN of Okmulgee, and grandsons, David
and Simon SLOAN of the home; a sister, Lorene BAKER of Stillwater; three
brothers, Newman Doc BUNNY of Bristow, Clarence Dick
BUNNY of Glenpool, and George Buddy BUNNY of Oklahoma City; three
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
CAMPBELL
NASHVILLE - Neil Edward CAMPBELL was born November 16, 1939. He died January
16, 1994, at his Nashville home. Funeral services were held at Priest Lake
Presbyterian Church in Nashville, TN. No information was given on the place
of interment.
He lived most of his life in Texas and graduated from the University of Corpus
Christi, was employed with American Airlines, and most recently worked as
a customer service supervisor at their Nashville facility. He was descended
from the last federally appointed chief of the Muscogee Nation, Waldo E.
Dode McINTOSH, and was the nephew of the then current McIntosh
District representative, Yahola Townsend.
His survivors include his wife, Kay BALDRIDGE of the home; his parents, William
M. and LaHoma CAMPBELL of Hurst, TX; two daughters, Christi VRAZEL of San
Antonio, TX, and Shari FERPES of Brighton, Michigan; a brother, James CAMPBELL
of Victoria, TX; a sister, Diana TAYLOR of Hurst, TX; and six grandchildren.
FIFE
HENRYETTA - Dollie King FIFE was born August 25, 1902, in Hughes County.
She died January 22, 1994, at Henryetta Medical Center. Funeral services
were held January 24 at Shurden Chapel, with Rev. Arlyn CLARY officiating.
Pallbearers were Canuky ALWERT, Chuch CHONEY, Pat DEACON, Bill FIFE, Mike
STILL, and John WOLF. Honorary pallbearers were Jim ADAMS, Robert ALWERT,
Evelyn BROGDON, Brian FIFE, Tim FIFE, Dean JOJOLA, John JOJOLA, Bedixie KING,
Kalon KING, J.C. MOUSER, Jack ROBINSON, Ellen WILLIS, and Bob WOLF. Interment
was in Memorial Park Cemetery.
She was a homemaker and a long time member of the Okfuskee County Home
Demonstration Club, Thewarle Baptist Church, and the Womens Auxiliary
of the American legion Post in Dustin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James D. and Mary Frances Durbin
KING; her husband, Taylor Lowe FIFE, whom she married in 1924 at Weleetka;
and an infant daughter, Marilyn FIFE. She was survived by her four daughters,
Helen Fife JAJOLA and Betty Jo MOUSER, both of Eufaula, Geraldine WOLF of
Sand Springs, and Loretta Fay ALWERT of Enid; 12 grandchildren, 15 great
grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.
FIFE
HENRYETTA - Joey A. Red FIFE was born January 22, 1950. He died
February 9, 1994. Funeral services were held February 12 at Shurden Chapel
with Rev. Eugene WHITLOW officiating. Pallbearers were Rufus WHITLOW, Jeff
BYINGTON, Brian FIFE, Tim FIFE, Richard GAMBLER, and Frank BELCHER. Honorary
pallbearers were Willard WEST, Bill FIFE, Phillip COON, and Bob WASHINGTON.
No information was given on the place of interment.
He was a forklift operator for Unit Rig in Tulsa for 22 years. He was the
son of Joe and Juanita West FIFE.
His father preceded him in death. His survivors include his mother of Dustin;
brothers, Richard Tuskee PHILLIPS of Tulsa, and Bill FIFE of
Sapulpa; sisters, Frances BELCHER of Checotah and Anna Jo WEFER of Sapulpa;
and two nieces.
LEADER
HOLDENVILLE - Jeff Otis LEADER was born February 22, 1916, in Ragtown. He
died January 18, 1994, at Tulsa Regional Medical Center. Graveside services
were held January 22 with Rev. Bill MILLER officiating. Interment was in
the Holdenville Cemetery.
He attended Holdenville High School and was a member of the 45th Division
during World War II, serving with the Service Battery 171st Field Artillery.
He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 539 in Henryetta.
He had also served on the Muscogee Nation Farm Authority Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Nancy Tiger LEADER; two
sisters, Alice LEADER and Lizzie BRUNER; two brothers, Lenix LEADER nd John
LEADER; and two great-granddaughters, Charity KIBBY and Megan LEADER. He
was married to Mable CLARK November 6, 1937, in Mounds. She survives. His
other survivors include his children and their spouses, Nancy LEADER of the
home, and Terry and Billy KIBBY of Wetumka, David and Marilyn LEADER of
Laytonville, CA; five grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; and nieces and
nephews.
MILLER
TWIN HILLS - Kizzie W. MILLER was born December 18, 1908, in Stone Bluff.
She died January 5, 1994, at Tulsa Regional Medical Center. Funeral services
were held January 8 at Concharty United Methodist Church, where she was a
member. Rev. Newman FRANK and Rev. George MILLER officiated the service.
She was active in the Concharty church and the Northeast District Senior

She was the daughter of Thomas and Samara Barnett WILSON, both deceased.
She was survived by her sons Harold T. MILLER of Haskell, and Jackie W. MILLER
of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces,
and many other family members and friends.
PALMER
TULSA - Kenneth PALMER, Jr., was born January 27, 1954, at Fort Crowder,
MO. He died February 11, 1994, from gunshot wounds. No other details on his
funeral or interment were available at press time. A memorial was planned
at a later time.
He was a 1972 graduate and all-state baseball player of Edison High School,
a pitcher on the University of Oklahomas 1975 Big Eight Conference
Baseball Championship team, and was drafted by the Oakland Athletics major
league baseball team in 1978. He was an employee of the Tulsa County court
clerks office and had been an employed as a Bingo employee with Creek
Nation in Tulsa. He played four years in the minor leagues. He was the nephew
of Muskogee District representative to Creek Nation, Helen CHUPCO. He was
the grandson of the late Billy and Bessie PALMER.
He is survived by his parents, Kenneth and Frances PALMER, Sr.; and his sisters,
Tracey Lee PALMER of Norman, and Haley Jo PALMER of the home.
SHIELDS
MUSKOGEE - Ada King SHIELDS was born December 19, 1908. She died January
18, 1994, at Tucson (AZ) Medical Center. Funeral services were held February
2 at Fosters Ivory Chapel with Rev. Paul SAMUELS officiating. Pallbearers
were Edwin MOORS, Tom DONAHOE, Woody WILSON, Curtis WILSON, Rex HARNER, and
Joe PARKER. Interment was in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
She graduated from Haskell Indian School and worked for 47 years with the
Bureau of Indian Affairs, until her retirement in 1981. She was a member
of Fife Memorial United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her son, Fred SHIELDS of Tucson; a daughter-in-law, Rita
SHIELDS of Tucson; three sisters, Lydia NELSON of Eufaula, Lizzie LEWIS of
Checotah, and Effie HOMERATHA of Oklahoma City; two granddaughters and five
great-grandchildren.
THOMAS
ODESSA, TX - Leatha THOMAS was born in 1910 in Okfuskee County. She died
in January 1994. Funeral services were held January 24 at Hubbard-Kelly
Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in the Henryetta Cemetery.
She is survived by her three sons, Robert Edker THOMAS, Jr., of Claremore,
Emmet Eugene THOMAS of Amarillo, TX, and Kenneth David THOMAS of Tulsa; her
three daughters, Doris K. TRANTHAM and Mildred MORRIS, both of Odessa, TX,
and Evelyn ADAMS of Coleman, TX; 19 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren,

TULSA
RYAL - Walter TULSA was born November 24, 1928. He died January 24, 1994,
at Henryetta Medical Center. Funeral services were held January 28 at Ryal
Community Baptist Church, where he was a member. Rev. Bunny SOWEKA
and Rev. Eugene HARJO officiated the service. Pallbearers were his nephews.
Interment was in the Soweka Family Cemetery.
He was a laborer and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death
by his parents, Dave and Sallie King TULSA, and a brother, Kenneth TULSA.
He married his wife Alice TULSA on June 1, 1954, in Okmulgee. She survives.
His other survivors include his four sons, Lewis TULSA and George HILL, both
of Henryetta, Harry TULSA of the home, and John TULSA of Glenpool; two sisters,
Nora FACTOR of Henryetta, and Katie TULSA of Tulsa; seven grandchildren,
and a great-grandchild.

HARRISBURG, MO - Vivian WASSOM was born October 9, 1919 at Richardville.
She died November 23, 1993. Interment was in the Rest Lawn Memorial Park.
She was a custodian for Junction City Schools. In 1962, she married Howard
WASSOM, who is deceased. She was survived by her daughter, Barbara
Ann WASSOM of San Diego, CA; a brother, Sam BERRYHILL of Central Point, MO;
a sister, Grace WRAY of TX; three grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

HENRYETTA - Sallie WATSON was born November 22, 1922, in Weleetka. She died
February 17, 1994, at her home. Funeral services were held February 18 at
the Simons-Merritt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bryant JESSE officiating.
Interment was in the Hutchechuppa Cemetery.
She was a member of the Thewarle Baptist Church and active in senior citizen
activities. She was preceded in death by her husband, John WATSON, her parents,

Arizona State University. She was a pianist with the Amarillo Symphony
and an accompanist for the Amarillo Civic Ballet. Her survivors include her

She died March 12, 1994, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. Funeral services
were held March 16 at Newtown United Methodist Church, where she was a member.

Rev. George MILLER. Pallbearers were Charles BELL, Robbie RECORD, Tim THOMPSON,

She was retired from the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the daughter of Jasper

BROKEN ARROW - Truman GEREN died February 20, 1994. No information was given

He was a case manager for the Ahalaya Project and active in the Tulsa Indian
community. He started the first support group for HIV-positive American Indian
men and developed a Hispanic HIV-AIDS program.

He retired from Braden Winch in 1983. He was with the Army 221st Headquarters
90th Infantry Division at Normandy during World War II and was awarded the
Bronze Star, three Bronze Service Stars, and a Purple Heart. He was a member
of Disabled American Veterans and served two terms as a Wagoner-Rogers-Mayes
District representative in the Muscogee (Creek) National Council.
He was the son of Lewis and Sally Carr THOMAS, both deceased. He was survived
by his wife, Ruby Faye Hakes THOMAS of the home; his two sons, Randy THOMAS
and Thomas THOMAS, both of Coweta; his daughter, Suzanne Denise SMITH of
Coweta; a sister, Christine Wylley SMITH of Broken Arrow; and five grandchildren,
Randy, Ronnie, Brandon, and Lawanna THOMAS, and Nicole SMITH.

HENRYETTA - Eziel John HARJO was born September 12, 1933, at Henryetta. He

JOHNSON
BRISTOW - Lucinda Allen JOHNSON was born July 21, 1894, in Indian Territory.
She died March 31, in Bristow. Funeral services were held April 4, 1994,
at St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she was a member. Interment was
in the Allen Family Cemetery.
She was a retired farmer-rancher who still lived on her Euchee allotment
land near Bristow. May 18, 1992 was proclaimed Lucinda Allen Johnson Day
by Oklahoma Governor David WALTERS and her ranch was designated as a centennial
ranch for being one of the oldest operating ranches in Oklahoma. She had
also taught school on the Mescalero-Apache reservation in New Mexico.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gus JOHNSON; and two sons, Lucian
TIGER and Alvin JOHNSON. She was survived by her daughter, Majel FRYE of
Kellyville; two sisters, Ella BURGESS of Oklahoma City, and Ann COPPINGER
of Bristow; three grandchildren, Muscogee Nation Supreme Court Justice Ed
FRYE of Bristow, Majel Lu STEVENSON of Tulsa, and Sonny TIGER of Kellyville;
eight great grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren.
MARTIN
SAPULPA - Mary Ruth MARTIN was born March 3, 1927, at Wetumka. She died April
8, 1994. She was interred at Green Hills Veterans Mausoleum April 10.
Her survivors included her husband, William Glen MARTIN, of the home; her
father, Bunnie MANLEY of Oologah; her two sons, Joseph BEAR and Michael BEAR,
both of Tulsa; her daughter, Ruby BUCKMAN of San Francisco; three sisters,

David POWELL; and two sisters, Pauline GRAYSON and Bernice HICKS. He was
survived by his two sons, Sam SIMMERS of Okmulgee, and Abraham SIMMERS of

Tulsa; one brother, Curtis SIMMERS of Bristow; three sisters, Ester VAN

BRYANT - Charlene WATASHE was born January 27, 1954, at Oklahoma City. She
died March 21, 1994, at McAlester General Hospital. Funeral services were

She attended schools at Forty-Nine, Sacred Heart Catholic School, and graduated

City, Susanne and Larry SMITH of Shawnee, and Helen and H.J. WHITE of Muskogee;
brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Theodore and Melvina BAKER of Oklahoma City;
nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

CROMWELL - Jimmie Papah DEERE was born May 14, (1994) and died later at Bartlett
Memorial Medical Center in Sapulpa. Funeral services we held May 17 at Little

OKEMAH - Ben Coon JOHNSON was born April 20, 1916, at Castle. He died May
31, 1994, at the Creek Nation Community Hospital at Okemah. Funeral services

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice JOHNSON; two daughters, Francis

WEATHERFORD - Napoleon MOORE was born December 12, 1907, at the Half Moon
Ranch in Okmulgee County. He died May 23, 1994, in Clinton. Funeral services
were held May 26 at The Chapel, with Rev. Max MALONE officiating. Pallbearers
were Paul ARMSTRONG, Randy MOORE, Tom RIVERA, Dick SAWATZKY, Issy UMSCHEID,

He attended Morris schools and graduated from Chilocco Indian School in 1927.
He attended Haskell Institute in Lawrence, KS, and served 39 months in the
China-Burma-India theater during World War II.
He was employed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs for ten years at the Pawnee
Agency and later owned the Mohawk Lodge Indian Store in Clinton for 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William B. and Leona Matlock MOORE;
three brothers (unnamed); and his wife, Dorothy Mae HOWECUM. His survivors
include seven brothers, John MOORE of Macon, GA, Thomas MOORE and Lawrence
MOORE, both of Okmulgee, Kenneth MOORE and Glenn MOORE, Sr., both of Morris,

BROKEN ARROW - Walter McHENRY was born June 17, 1913, in the West Community.
He died in July 1994. No day of death was given. Prayer services were held
July 5 followed by funeral services July 6 at Broken Arrow United Indian
Methodist Church, where he was a member. Officiating the funeral service
were Rev. Newman FRANK, Sr., assisted by Rev. Tim BYINGTON. No information

He was a 1932 graduate of Broken Arrow High School and a retired landscaper
following 13 years employment at Oral Roberts University. He was a certified

Josephine ALEXANDER on October 1, 1936, in Broken Arrow. She survives. He

He was a U.S. Army veteran and was employed in Oklahoma City as a municipal
park foreman. He held many positions at the Salt Creek church, including

STAPP
SAND CREEK - Nancy Fish STAPP was born May 28, 1919. She died in October,
1994. No day of death was given. Funeral services were held October 31, 1994,
at Sand Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Harry ANDERSON and Rev. Bill BEAVER
officiating. Pallbearers were her grandsons Art STRONG, Johnny STRONG, Danny
STAPP, Jr., Adam STAPP, Clint STAPP, and Brett STAPP. Interment was at Sand
Creek Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Dora Pack FISH; her husband,
Gene D. STAPP; three sisters, Opal, Ellen, and Margret (No last names given;
three brothers, Charles FISH, Jake FISH, and Arthur FISH; and one grandson,
Steven STAPP. Her survivors include her twelve children, Lavern COUNTS, Louise
BUCK, Brenda HOWELL, Rita SMITH, Anita STAPP, Carole STAPP, Sharon STAPP,
Pete STAPP, Danny STAPP, Bobby STAPP, Ronnie STAPP, and Gene STAPP; two sisters,
Wanda BARRETT and Josephine WRIGHT; 26 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren,
and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
