PERISHO
May 3, 1863, there came to the home of Jacob W. and Nacy M. PERISHO, in Coles county, Illinois, a son, to whom they gave the name of Joseph Allen.
A few years later they moved to Edgar county, that state, where he grew to manhood and after teaching chose the medical profession, graduating in 1891. He also was a graduate in pharmacy and engaged in the drug business both here and at Cache.
At the age of twenty two years he made the confession and through the forty years since, has been a loyal worker for Christ.
October 8, 1891, the doctor was married to Tessa M. DOWNS, who with one daughter, Beth, is left to mourn for a kind companion and loving father.
March, 1898, they came to Oklahoma, first locating in Oklahoma City but in July came to Luther, then a new town.
Here they went through one of the hardest trials of their lives-giving up Phy, the only child at that time, who will be remembered by many friends of this community. After this bereavement the home of Doctor and Mrs. PERISHO was open to many young folks who needed help and comfort and the same was ever true after they left our community.
Now when doctor had left his home "The bread cast upon the waters has returned" and some of these children could not get to "mother" too soon to help her and grieve for "daddy."
We might mention among them Miss Lorena SHERFIELD of Cache, Mr. and Mrs. Carl DENNY of Elmer, Floyd YARBRO of Oklahoma City, Mrs. Guy CLEAVER of Muskogee and Miss Burnette JACKSON of Bristow, all living in Oklahoma.
In 1910 they went to Cache, this state, which was still home to him until the Lord called him to come up higher.
He had been afflicted with a weak heart for several years and had often remarked that he wished to go while at work, which he did having just finished caring for a patient, when he sank without a word. This was August 24, 1925.
Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Cache, Thursday morning by his pastor, Rev. KIRTLEY; then the remains were brought to Luther where Rev. CARPENTER conducted services Friday morning before laying the body beside Phy in the Valley View cemetery as the doctor had requested.
Besides the wife and daughter, he is survived by four sisters and one brother, Mrs. Ida RECORD, Los Angeles, Cal.; Mrs. Lizzie VIRES, Douglas, Kan.; Mrs. Ola JACKSON, Wichita, Kan.; Everett PERISHO, Douglas, Kan.; and Mrs. Nancy CLARKSON, Stroud, Okla.
The brother and sister from Douglas were here for services, but 'it was impossible for the other sisters to reach here. Mrs. PERISHO'S only sister, Mrs. Paul SLATER was also here from Illinois.
Dr. PERISHO'S cheerful attitude toward life and its duties; his loyalty to his friends, his community's best interest, his church, have been an inspiration, a sermon and a benediction. The friends left feel that they have lost a good neighbor and counsellor, but that the doctor has gone to his well earned reward.
