FIRE PROTECTION ON THE RIDGE
Union Township, Warren County, Ohio

On April 20, 1953, a contract was entered into between the Village of Lebanon, Ohio, and "certain residents of Union Township, Warren County, Ohio, lying on State Route #48 immediately south of the south corporation line of Turtlecreek Township."

For the Village, the contact was signed by Wm. Fraser, Mayor, and Mildred B. Mingle, Clerk. Property owners signed individually, in the order in which their names appeared on the contract:

Harry Lollar
C. Donald Dilatush
Thomas A. Scott
J. H. Barker
Wilbur Campbelll
William J. Koch
E. J. Beedle
Virgil Rapp
W. D. Totten
Henry Monson, Jr.
Robert Brandenburg
Stanley Pursley
Robert F. McLain
Clifford C. Brown

Terms of the agreement were that fire protection be given to property owned or occupied by the above individuals "insofar as such protection and use of equipment does not interfere with, or prevent, the needed use of the fire equipment within the corporate limits thereof."

The property owners agreed to pay "for the run of fire equipment the sum of $100 for the first hour, plus $50 for each additional hour." The agreement was to run until "either party notifies the other in writing by mail that the contract shall be null and void" with 30 days' notice.

At the time this agreement was reached William Rainey was Fire Chief. In the intervening years, sizeable acreages on either sides of the road were incorporated into the town of Lebanon. Lebanon continues to give fire protection, and a new fire station is to be built near the Ohio State Patrol Office at Nelson Drive.
