      "Military services were held today (Thursday) for S. Sgt. Verlon Reed, 38, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Reed of 229 West Eighth Street, Franklin. Sgt. Reed died Sunday of Pneumonia in the Fort Briggs, New Jersey, base hospital about six hours before he was to leave for a three-year tour of duty in Germany. He had recently completed a year of duty in Vietnam.
