Cpl. Charles Russell, Radio Technician in Air
Forces, Reported Missing One of the tragedies of World War II came to Lebanon Friday evening when a telegram was received by MR. and MRs. Virgil H. Russell from the War Department telling that their son Cpl. Charles V. Russell, 27, had been missing since December 21. Russell, who is widely known in this community, has been serving as a member of U. S. ARmy Air Forces as a radio technician and has been serving with an anti-submarine squad doing patrol duty in the Puerto Rico area. Frank Dudley Bolanger, wrote his parents recently that he visited with Cpl. Russell on December 18 when he stopped at a base in Puerto Rico with members of his bomber crew to refuel. Russell is also reported to have visited with MRs. Helen Revenaugh Goecke while in Puerto Rico. Bolanger is an inspector of airline motors on final assembly there. Russell entered the Armed Forces over a year ago had has had (continued on Page Six-ACpl. C. V. Russell - (continued from Page One-A) entensive training in radio work. He was home on a furlough several weeks ago. Details of the tragedy are still lacking according to his father and every possible effort is being made to learn what has happened. MISSING SOLDIER REPORTED DEAD Cpl. Charles V. Russell Cpl. Charles V. Russell, 27, reported as missing in action since December 21, 1942, officially has been declared as dead in a letter received today by his parents, MR. and Mrs. V. H. Russell, from the War Department. Cpl. Russell, who was widely known here, was serving as a member of the Army Air Forces as radio technician and was with an anti-submarine squad doing patrol duty in Puerto Rico area. He entered the armed forces in 1941. The War Department said he was lost between Puerto RIco and British Guiana. Source: |
