Bounty Land Application filed 26 Dec 1850 in Greene County, Illinois
for his service in the War of 1812

  State of Illinois
County of Greene

On this 26th day of December A.D. One thousand eight hundred and fifty, personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace, within and for the County and State aforesaid, Benjamin Baldwin aged fifty 59 nine years a resident of Greene County in the State of Illinois, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical Benjamin Baldwin who was a forth corporal in the company commanded by Colonel John McConnel, in the War with Great Britain declared by the United States on the 18th day of June A.D.1812. That he volunteered at Monongahalia County in the State of Virginia on or about the 29th day of May A.D. 1812 for the term of six months and continued in active service in said war for the term of six months commencing on or about the 16th day of September A.D. 1812 and was honorably discharged at Fort Meigs on or about the 6th day of April A.D. 1813 as will appear by his original certificate of discharge herewith presented - -
And the said Benjamin Baldwin further declares that he is the identical Benjamin Baldwin who was a first sergeant in the company commanded by Captain Andrew Gurthery in a Detachment Commanded by Duncan McArthur in an expedition through Upper Canada in the war with Great Britain declared by the United States on the 18th day of June A. D. 1812. The he volunteered in the county of Warren in the State of Ohio on or about the 16th day of September A.D. 1814 for the term of thirty days as he believes according to the best of his recollection and continued in actual service in said war for the term of ninety days and was honorably discharged at the town of Lebanon, Ohio on or about the 25th day of December A.D. 1814 as will appear by the Muster Rolls of said company and further states that his original certificate of discharge is lost and that it will be out of his powers to present the same to the department. He makes these declarations for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which he may be entitled to under the act granting bounty land to certain officers and soldiers who have been engaged in the military service of the United States passed September 28th, 1850.
