Alice Bernstein Stubbs (1878-1925)

OBITUARY.
Mrs. Alice Bernstein Stubbs was born near Morrow, Ohio, March 8, 1878. She was united in marriage to Oscar B. Stubbs at Lebanon, Ohio, February 24, 1897. To this union were born two children, Samuel Edward Stubbs, who died in infancy and a daughter, who survives her.
Her husband preceded her in death twenty-four years ago. Most of her life was spent in the neighborhood of Washington School house. She was a member of the Shiloh M. E. church. She died March 4, 1925, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dana R. Hamilton, of Charleston, W. Va., aged 46 years 11 months and 26 days.
She leaves to mourn their loss her daughter, Mrs. Dana R. Hamilton, two sisters, four brothers, other relatives and friends.

Ethel (Stubbs) Hamilton (1899-1983)

ETHEL HAMILTON
Ethel Stubbs Hamilton, 83, who was born and lived near Lebanon for many years prior to World War II. died Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Mountain State Nursing Home, Charleston, W. Va., after a short illness.
She was a member of the Humphrey's Memorial United Methodist Church, the Eastern Star, Burbank Garden Club and Ladies Auxiliary of World War I.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Feb. 28, at Humphrey's Church with the Rev. Ralph Thompson officiating.

OSCAR STUBBS
Killed by a Train in California
.
Hanford California Journal, July 24.
Word was received here yesterday by Harry Bernstein, from Bakersfield stating that his brother-in-law, Oscar Stubbs had been killed by being run over by a train and his body badly crushed. John Bernstein left here yesterday for Caliente where the accident occurred, and Constable Bernstein left last evening. Stubbs was about 23 years of age and has a wife and baby in the east. He came to California in company with John Bernstein, last January, and has since been employed on the railroad. No particulars, furthe than this have been stated, have yet been learned. The remains will arrive here tomorrow mornng from Bakersfield for interment.
DUE TO CARELESSNESS.
Bakersfield, California, Echo. An inquest over the body of Oscar Stubbs who was killed on the Southern Pacific Saturday night by being thrown off a flat car and run over, was held by Coroner Buckrens at Kern Sunday. The jury returned the following verdict:
"That the deceased came to his death by being run over by the cars, an accident which was unavoidable."
The body was shipped last night to Hanford, where the deceased has relatives. He was 23 years of age and a native of Ohio.
Sutbbs on Saturday had been employed with other mechanics of the Southern Pacific repairing a bridge below Pampa, and was returning home from work when the accident occurred which deprived him of his life. He was riding on a flat car when the train became uncoupled. There was a sudden jerk and he was thrown off, the car passing over his abdomen, nearly cutting him in two. The body was at once brought to Kern. The deceased left a widow and and a baby. He was employed in the blacksmith shop of the Southern Pacific until three weeks ago, when he accepted a position as bridge carpenter. He was well known in Kern and leaves many friends to mourn his loss.

Oscar Stubbs, a bridge carpenter in the employ of the Southern Pacific and a brother-in-law of Constable Harry Bernstein of Hanford was instantly killed near Pampa by being run over by a flat car loaded with tools, from which he had been thrown by the breaking of the car from the main train.
