Sgt. Herbert E.
Snider Word was received Thursday from the War Department of the death of Sgt. Herbert E. Snider, 20, which occurred on April 16. He was killed somewhere in the American area. He was a tail gunner on a B-24 Liberator bomber and was previously reported missing. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Snider, Kings Mills. He was last seen at 3:15 p. m. over Trinidad Island on April 16. Besides his parents he leaves one brother, Cpl. Howard Snider, Kings Mills, now stationed at Camp Howie, Texas, and two sisters, Mrs. Edith Thompson, Mason, and Mrs. Ruth Bowman, Kings Mills. After graduating from the Kings Mills High School in 1941, he attended the Aero Industries Technical Institute, Glendale, Calif. Before entering the service, March 4, 1842, he was employed at Curtiss-Wright Corporation at Columbus, Ohio. He received his wings from gunnery school at Las Vegas, Nevada. Memorial Services for Herbert will be held at the Hopkinsville United Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Aug. 20, with the Rev. E. Philip Vogel in charge. Source: unnamed paper date August
