Louis Jacob Rumaggi (3 Dec 1900 - 7 Apr 1989)

Retired Army Maj. Gen. Rumaggi died in Dallas

Retired U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Louis J, Rumaggi, 88, a former Franklin and Excello resident, died Friday morning at a Dallas hospital. He had recently been living in Dallas.
The Memphis, Tenn., native grew up in Excello and graduated from Middletown High School in 1917. His late mother lived in Franklin, which he referred to as his hometown in his military records.
He attended Miami University for one year before receiving an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he graduated in 1922. He earned an engineering degree at the University of California, graduating in 1927.
He was stationed throughout the Pacific during World War II and also served in the Korean War for 16 months, where he was chief of engineers for the 8th Army. He earned the Distinguished Service Medal while in Korea, and also received two Legion of Merit awards with clusters.
He served in the Army Corps of Engineers for 37 years, retiring in 1959.
He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Dallas, and was involved with the Society of Military Engineers, the American Legion Military Order of the World Wars and Rotary International.
Survivors include his wife, Louise; a daughter, Mrs. Louise Reed, address unavailable; and three grandchildren.
Military services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Arlington National Cemetery, with burial to follow.
There will be no visitation.
Arrangements are by the Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral

Garnet Huntsbarger, buried in Woodside Cemetery in Middletown, Ohio, was married to Louis Rumaggi, the father of Louis Jacob Rumaggi. Louis was born about 1874 and was the brother of my grandfather, John George Rumaggi.
[Diane wrote to correct a previous note which indicated that Garnet was the wife of Louis Jacob Rumaggi]
