Wayne Soldier Dies In Jap Prison Camp The War Department has notified relatives here of the death of Raymond K. Pence, aged 35, who died in a Japanese Prison Camp in the Philippines on June 16. A native of the Waynesville community, Pfc. Pence was the son of the late George and Annella Pence, his mother passing away a year ago just three days after she received notice of her son’s capture by the Japs. He attended Waynesville high school and was employed at Delco Products in Dayton before entering the service. Pfc. Pence enlisted in the armed forces in March 1941 and was assigned to coast artillery in the Philippines where he was fighting when the island fortress fell. Survivors include his wife, Virginia, a son and a daughter; two brothers, Clifford of Waynesville and Howard of Dayton; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Evans, Lebanon and Mrs. Myra Miller, Franklin.
