"Word has been received from the War Department that Captain
Richard J. Misel, 28, of Kings Mills, was killed in Italy on May 7. He
and another officer were working with a large quantity of captured ammunition
and explosives when he met his death. He had participated in the African
and Italian campaigns, having gone overseas May 13, 1943 in the Bomb Disposal
Unit. He was inducted in June 1941 and later was sent to Aberdeen, Md.,
where he received his officers training. He leaves his father, John Misel,
Kings Mills; his mother, Cleora Misel, Dayton, a brother, Harry of Hamilton
and three sisters, Mrs. Mildred Conover, Wyoming, Mrs. Hazel Bowles, Indianapolis
and Mrs. Winifred Settlemyre, Clarksville"

"Mason - Funeral services for Capt. Richard J. Misel, 28, of
Kings Mills, who was killed in an explosion in Verona, Italy on May 7,
1945, was held Wednesday at 2 P.M. at the Ray Gallimore Funeral Home in
charge of the Rev. E. Lee Niswander. Burial was in Rosehill
Cemetery.
Capt. Misel has participated in the African and Italian campaigns with
a Bomb Disposal Unit.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Cleora Misel, Dayton; a brother, Harry
of Hamilton and three sisters, Mrs. Mildred Conover, Wyoming; Mrs. Hazel
Bowles, Indianapolis and Mrs. Winifred Settlemyre, Clarksville."
