EMERSON H. JAMES Funeral services for Emerson H. James, were held Tuesday
morning at the Baptist church, in charge of Rev. Willis S. Webb, pastor.

John C. James, son of John and Nancy James was born in Green county, Ohio, March 9th 1816, died August 7th 1901, aged 85 years, 4 months and 29 days. He was one of a family of eight children viz Rachel Berryhill, Evan B. James, David W. James, Sarah Wilgus, Joshua C. James, Lydia Smith, Catharine Smith and John C. James, all of whom had departed this life prior to his death. He was united in marriage to Susan Brown, April 26th 1838. This union was blessed with nine children, seven of whom are living viz Evan B. James, Permelia Lamme, Harriet Marshall, Catharine Chase, Isaac James, William James and Mary Whitacre. The two deceased children were: - Benjamin A. James, who died June 18th 1843, and Rebecca, wife of John Soward, who died June 1st 1884. Twenty-five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren are among those who mourn to-day on account of this bereavement. The subject of this sketch united with the M.E. church in Bellbrook, Feb. 6th 1868, under the pastorate of Rev John Vance, and continued a member of the church until death. In his death the community loses a kind good neighbor, and the family a devoted and loving father. The funeral took place at the M.E. church Friday afternoon, August 9th; Rev. Trout officiating.
