Augustus
Hinsch (1805-1997)
Obituary.
Agustus [sic] F. Hinsch died at his home on the corner of Warren and High
streets in Lebanon August 29, 1897. Mr. Hinsch was a son of Louis LeBright
Hinsch, who came with his brother Jacob from Saxony to America in 1789.
Augustus Hinsch was born at Gettysburg, Pa., Feb. 9, 1805, graduated at
Dickinson college, Carlisle, Pa., in 1827 in the classical course, and
became a civil engineer. He came to Lebanon in 1836 and was married in
that year to Miss Louisa E. Denman (who died about ten years ago) and
was the father of five sons and two daughters, of whom William A., Alfred
M. and Mary J. (wife of Thomas E. Drake) survive him. Mr. Hinsch was elected
surveyor of Warren county in 1860. He was a quiet and unobtrusive man,
decided in this manner and firm in his convictions. He left a good record,
and was highly respected. The funeral services were held at the residence,
August 31, at 10 A. M. and were conducted by Rev. Gowdy of the Presbyterian
church.
