Catherine Hatfield - 7 Nov 1907 Western Star

OLDEST RESIDENT DEAD.

Mrs. Catherine Hatfield, 94, Succumbs Friday Morning. Was Oldest Resident in Lebanon.

The death of Mrs. Catherine Hatfield, Friday morning removed from Lebanon its oldest resident. She was the mother of Mrs. J. H. Wood and death occurred at the Wood home. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon.

Catherine Ann Sill was born near Elizabeth, Monmouth County New Jersey October 10. 1813.

She was the daughter of Thomas and Charity Sill and was the eighth of eleven children, seven sons and four daughters of whom none survive. At the age of eighteen in company with her parents, brothers and sisters, and a number of neighborhood families, she emigrated to Ohio locating in Warren County near Calisle [sic]. Here she spent the days of her young womanhood, in the midst of the primitive conditions of that early period.

In September of 1838, she was united in marriage to Israel L. Hatfield. To this union were born seven children, six sons and one daughter; of whom only one son, V. C. Hatfield and the daughter, Belle H. Wood, survive.

About 1845 Mr. and Mrs. Hatfield removed to Lebanon, in which place they spent their remaining days. Mrs. Hatfield survived her husband fourteen years.

She was a woman of remarkable vitality. During a long life of ninety-four years, she retained all her faculties, except that of hearing, until the beginning of her final illness ten weeks ago.

Mrs. Hatfield was a member of the Methodist church of which denomination her father was a minister. She was a devoted wife and a kind and affectionate mother.

As a friend and neighbor she was very sympathetic and helpful in the time of sickness and trouble.
