Former Resident Dies in Columbus. Ruth Hoff Dearth. On Wednesday morning, February 21, 1923, the promise of a beautiful winter day came with a flood of sunshine. All nature seemed in sympathy with mankind and the early spring birds poured forth their sweetest notes as the soul of Ruth Dearth passed into the realms of the Great Beyond. Over two years ago she was stricken with paralysis which left her a semi-invalid and speechless. This affliction she endured with patience and when the maker called she passed away so quietly and such a calm, peaceful expression came over her features that it seems we would be selfish to call her back, if that was possible. Ruth Hoff Dearth was born at Lebanon, November 5, 1853, the daughter of John and Catherine Harner and youngest of a family of nine children. She is survived by a husband, three children, Walter, Elsie and Mrs. Ann Lawrence all of whom reside in Columbus, and one brother, Frank Harner, one sister, Mrs. Julia S. Brown, both of Lebanon and one grandson, Walter Lawrence of Columbus. Her body was brought from her late home in Columbus, Saturday, February 24, and short services were conducted by Rev. Gehman. Six nephews carried her to her last resting place in Lebanon cemetery where she was laid beside her mother. Source: The Western Star (Lebanon,
