Ex parte Thos. Stephenson
September Term 1832
Application for Naturalization
Declaration
Warren County to wit:
Personally appeared in open Court a Court of Record being the Court of
common Pleas now sitting within the County of Warren and State of Ohio;
Thomas Stephenson, an applicant for naturalization who
on being duly sworn, declares and Saith that he is forty five years of
age, that he was born in the County of Roxburgh in Scotland, from whence
sometime in September in the year eighteen hundred and nine, he emigrated
to the United States of America and has continued to reside there ever
since that time, that he has been a resident of Warren County, State of
Ohio for upwards of twenty years past; And the said Thomas Stephenson
further declares and Saith, that during his residence in the United States
aforesaid, he has been attached to the principles of the Constitution
thereof and well disposed to the good order & happiness of the same,
and that it has been his bona fide intention for at least three years
past to become a citizen of the United States; And he further declares
and says upon his solemn oath, that he will support the Constitution of
the United States and that he doth absolutely & entirely renounce
and abjure, all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign power, potentate,
State of Sovereignty whatever and particularly to his Majesty William
the IV. King of the United Kingdom of England, Ireland & Scotland,
to whom he was heretofore a subject; And the said Thomas also saith that
he has never born any hereditary title or been of the order of nobility
in any Country whatever, and further saith not.

State of Ohio Warren County} ss.
On this day personally appeared in open court, William M. Wiley
and William Lowry
who on being duly sworn depose and say, that they are well acquainted
with the within named Thomas Stephenson, that he was
residing within the limits & under the jurisdiction of the United
States, before the 18th day of June 1812 and has continued to reside therein
ever since. That said Thomas, for at least five years preceding this time
has been & continued to be a resident of the County of Warren in this
state, that he has behaved as a man of good moral character, attached
to the principles of the Constitution of the United States, and well disposed
to the good order & happiness of the same, and further say not.
