"I had the newer stone placed at the grave of  Simpson P. Wear/Were. From his civil war pension record, his date of death was October 2, 1865. His birthday was calculated from his age at time of death as recorded in the bible of his widow, Sarah Ann Harvey Wear, but at various times, he gave his year of birth as 1805, 1809, etc…census records seem to lean more toward 1809."
