Pioneer Cemetery Restoration Clinic
Saturday, October 22, 2011

Sponsored by the Warren County Genealogical Society
with the generous support of the City of Lebanon

THANKS!
The 3rd annual Cemetery Restoration Clinic was a great success with participants coming from all over southwest Ohio and as far away as Ashland, Ohio. We started out with a frosty fall morning but it was a beautiful sunny day which warmed up nicely. Walt and Micki Walters from the Graveyard Groomer presented an outstanding program.  We are grateful for the time and effort devoted to the clinic by chairman Terry Easton and chairwoman Dana Palmer who were supported in a variety of ways by other Warren County Genealogical Society volunteers including Vicki Bergerhouse, Marti Daubenmire, Diana Linkous, Candy Taylor and Arne Trelvik.  We must also thank the City of Lebanon for the support they provided for the clinic, especially Scott Brunka, Deputy City Manager and Sonny Redmon who heads up the care and maintenance of both the Pioneer Cemetery and the Lebanon Cemetery. Free morning coffee was provide by The Village Ice Cream Parlor in Lebanon.

THE RESULTS!
The primary purpose of the clinic was to educate those attending.  The clinic presented graphic demonstrations on suitable restoration techniques to deal with various problems experienced in older cemeteries and provided commentary on the cause of those problems both in the past and continuing today. Each participant received a heavily illustrated 155 page workbook covering all of the topics addressed during the clinic.  Those who weren't able to attend may purchase a copy of the workbook from the Warren County Genealogical Society [513 695 1444 or [email protected]] for only $10 plus $2 shipping and handling. Ohio residents should add 6 1/2% sales tax.

John Frazier and his wife Malinda (West) Frazier were living in Warren County when he enlisted as a 43 year old Private in the 79th OVI on the 22nd of January 1864. He died of disease less than a month later on 13 Feb 1864. Hundreds of soldiers from Warren County served in this regiment which was originally organized in July of 1862 in Warren, Clinton and Hamilton counties.  His gravestone was leaning heavily to the right so that the inscription was hidden by the stone next to it and by the cedar tree sapling that had sprouted up between the two stones.  The sapling was removed and the stone was straightened. Lebanon's VFW Post 6069 has provided a G.A.R. flag holder to commenorate the ultimate sacrifice made by Mr. Frazier and his family.
