OBITUARY: Died on Saturday night last, at the residence of Abel Johnson, Esq., Joseph Johnson, aged about seventy-seven years. The deceased was a native of Virginia, and at an early day moved from there to Harrison county in this State; and from there he moved to this county, where he has resided for the last twenty years. The deceased was an industrious man and a good citizen, and was highly esteemed by his neighbors, and all who knew him. He has left a large connexion (sic) of friends to mourn his loss.

The deceased was during her life a loving and affectionate wife, a kind and indulgent Parent, and a sincere and devoted Christian; and although we have lost a kind friend, she has gained a crown of glory.

Died on Friday the 17th inst., of Typhoid Fever, at the residence of his brother, in Willshire township, Van Wert county, Mr. William W. Hileman in the 26th year of his age. The deceased was a young man of much promise; of industrious and temperate habits, he had but lately came into this neighborhood from Wayne county, Ohio, where his parents still reside. He intended to pursue the business of a farmer, and for that purpose had purchased land and commenced clearing it up, in which he had succeeded very well, and bid fair to make a useful citizen. He was respected by his newly acquired friends and associates and his death is universally lamented by them; but there is another circle of friends and relations where his early demise will be more deeply felt and mourn- ed, in the home circle, at his fathers house by those aged parents, brothers and sisters, to them, his loss will be irrepareble. But the Fiat hath gone forth from the inexorable Judge that man must die in conformity to that decree he has gone to the grave. His funeral was attended from the residence of his brother on the 18th by a large number of friends, and acquaintances; the funeral exercises were conducted by the Rev. T. Elcox, of the First Presbyterian church of Van Wert.

The deceased has resided for some two years past, (until recently) in our town, and was highly esteemed, and beloved by all who become acquainted with her.

Died at her residence, in Tully township, Van Wert county,Ohio on the 3rd day of November, '57; Mrs. Elizabeth Hudspeth, in the 57th year of her age. Mrs. Hudspeth, has been a resident of this county for upwards of twenty years. Mrs. Hudspeth and husband Thomas Hudspeth emigrated to this county from old Philadelphia in the year 1837. Mrs. Hudspeth has lived a widow, for the last five years and upwards; during which time,she has lived with her son George Belonged to the Methodist Episcopal church until five years ago and then was received and baptised into the fellowship of the Harrison Baptist Church.

Died, at his own residence, in Ridge township, Van Wert county, Ohio, Mr. Alexander Slane, in the 49th of his age, leaving a large family and numerous friends to mourn his death. The esteem entertained for him was shown by the unusually large attendance at his funeral, when the writer preached to a crowded house. Mr. Slane was an amiable, quiet, peaceable citizen, and honest man, a christian, and a worthy member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, in which at the time of his death he held the office of elder. The death of this man is a great loss to his family, to the church, and to the community, but what is loss to us is infinite gain to him.

Bar Meeting
On Monday, February 6th, 1871 a meeting of the Attorneys and officers of the Courts, at Van Wert, Ohio, was held at the office of H. C. Glenn, Esq., to take such action as might seem proper with regard to the decease of Perrin DePuy.
There were present, C. P. Edson, J. M. Barr, I. D. Clark, J. Darnell, I. P. Shissler, I. N. Alexander, J. J. Moon, J. L. Price, W. J. Beers, H. C. Glenn, and G. M. Saltzgaber, attorneys, and A. McGavren, Probate Judge, A. B. Gleason, Sheriff, and J. E. Morrison, Clerk of Court. C. P. Edson was made Chairman, and G. M. Saltzgaber, Secretary.
On motion, a Committee of three was appointed to draft resolutions expressive of the sense of the meeting, and said Committee reported after due deliberation, and the following preamble and resolutions were adopted, after feeling and earnest remarks had been made by C. P. Edson, I. N. Alexander, W.J. J. Beers, and others who had been intimately associated with the deceased;
Whereas, It has pleased an all-wise God, in the dispensations of Providence, to remove from among us our brother and friend, Perrin DePuy, one of our oldest citizens and one of the pioneers of the Bar of Van Wert county, therefore
Resolved, That as a friend he was true in his intercourse with his professional brethren he was gentlemanly and courteous, and when in practice the interests of his clients he made his own, working with a single devotion to accomplish the desired end.
Resolved, That the success in life of our brother is attributable to his stern financial integrity, energy and strict devotion to his business, and these traits of his character are worthy of imitation.
Resolved, That in the sudden and unexpected death of our brother, who for twenty-five years has been a leading citizen and member of the Bar of Van Wert, we recognize "that in the midst of life we are in death;" and we accept this as an admonition to us to be well prepared, and have our briefs fully completed, so that when our cases are called in that high Court, in which we must all appear, we may not be taken by surprise.
Resolved, That, while bowing to the Inscrutable ways of Providence, we feel that our loss is great, and that the place among us, once occupied by our brother, will not soon be filled.
Resolved, That we deeply sympathize with the widow and relations of the deceased brother in this, their sudden and sore bereavement, and we tender to her and them our heartfelt condolence in their affliction.
Resolved, That we, as a body, will attend the funeral of our deceased brother, and that the Chairman of this meeting be and is instructed to appoint pall-bearers from among the members of the bar and members of the Court.
Resolved, That the Chairman of the meeting be requested to deliver a copy of these resolutions to the widow of our deceased brother, and that he will also be and is hereby instructed to present these resolutions to the Court of Common Pleas of Van Wert county, at its next term, and request that they be entered on the journal of said Court. Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be published in both the newspapers of Van Wert.

KILLED BY A RUNAWAY TEAM-Mr. Noah Frisinger of Mercer county, was run over by a team and killed, on Saturday last, when returning home from this town. The accident took place some three miles South of town on the Shanesville road. Mr. Frisinger was an early settler and highly respectable citizen.

DEATH OF A FORMER RESIDENT OF VAN WERT COUNTY. -- Mrs. Stephen Gleason died in Whitley county, Ind., on Friday morning last, at an advanced Aged (sic). Mrs. Gleason was one of the pioneers of this county, where she resided until within a few years past. The remains were brought to Van Wert and interred in the old grave-yard.

DEATH OF REV. ROBERT GILCHRIST
It is our sad duty to announce the death of the Rev. Robert Gilchrist, Pastor of the Presbyterian Church of this place, which occurred yesterday (Wednesday) morning at 5 o'clock, aged 25 years, 7 months and 17 days. A sorrowing community weeping over the death of one whom they had learned to love is an eloquent tribute to his memory, before which the pen is powerless. The remains were taken to Lebanon, the home of his parents, for interment.

Death of a Pioneer
Mr. Matthias Black, one of the early settlers of this county, and a highly respectable citizen died at his residence in Union township, on the 12th inst. Mr. Black was born in Adams county, Pa., Feb 4th 1817. His afflicted family will have the sympathies of a large circle of friends.

Death of Robert M. Fowler
Mr. Robert M. Fowler, who moved here from Fairfield county, Ohio about 25 years ago (1857) and first settled in town, where T. Geppert now lives and afterwards on the farm owned by Mr. John M. Clark, a mile west of town, died at Convoy last monday, after a protracted illness, aged something over 78 years. Mr Fowler was an honest, upright man ,one who always tried to do according to his best judgement what was right between his fellow men. At one time he w as a minister of the Gospel, but of late years to feeble to preach from the pulpit as formerly. It will be remembered that he received severe injuries from being thrown from a wagon over a year ago by a locomotive, when crossing the railroad near the residence of Mr. H.P. Holmes. From these injuries he never fully recovered. On last Wednesday his body was interrred in the P.M. Dix Cemetery.

Sudden Death.
Mr. M. J. LAUFFERTY, of Fort Wayne, was chosen pall bearer for one of his friends on Tuesday of last week, and requested his wife to prepare an early dinner, as his duties would take him at 2 p. m. During its preparation she missed him and on examination found him dying in the water-closet. The physician pronounced the cause of death paralysis of the heart. Mr. Laufferty was the father of our former clothing merchant, Mr. S. L. Laufferty, the son-in-law of Gen. A. Jacobs.

Sudden Death of an Old Citizen.
On last Tuesday Mr. John KRIDER, who resided in the south part of Pleasant township, died suddenly of sunstroke. Mr. K. was a large fleshy man and about 60 years old at the time of his death. We are informed that Mr. Krider came to Van Wert county about twenty years ago and purchased a good farm. Last summer he built a large frame house and was nicely fixed to enjoy serene old age.

Death of Robert Kear.
Sunday evening, Nov. 6th, Mr. Robert KEAR died of Bright's disease, after a long and tedious illness, aged 33 years. He was born in this town and had always lived here. He leaves a wife and five children.
Mr. Kear was not a member of any church, but while on his death-bed, made a profession of conversion. He was for a number of years and up to his death an efficient member of the fire company and having been one of the first persons born in this county, was well known. His funeral was held at the Methodist Church, Tuesday afternoon at two, Rev. Fish officiating. The burial took place at the old cemetery.

Sudden Death of a Respected Citizen
Friday night, Oct. 7th, Mr. Isaiah JONES died after a few hour's illness, aged 56 years. He was born in Clermont county, 0., Nov. 27th, 1825, and lived until there until '5I, when he moved to York township, Van Wert county, and married Miss Roxana Smith, of Clermont county, 0., who survives him. He lived in this town from '61 until the time of his death, leaving a wife and young boy to mourn his sudden death.
Mr. Jones, or "Ike," as he was familiarly called, was from his social qualities, one of the most popular of our citizens. On all pleasurable occasions, his presence was in demand and no picnic or excursion was complete without him. Aside from these desirable qualities, be was a useful man; doing good in many ways quietly and without ostentation. He was extremely generous; no deserving unfortunate was ever turned from his door cold or hungry. These combined traits have made his death a sincere regret and a loss to the community.

DIED.-On the afternoon of November 14th, Mr. Conrad LAUDICK, aged 69 years. The deceased was one of the first settlers of Delphos, having arrived here in the fall of 1842, with T.Wrocklage, F. Bredeick and several others, who have all been identified in the material rise and prosperity of the now thriving town of Delphos.
The funeral took place from John's Catholic Church.

OBITUARIES.
Died at his father's residence at the county Infirmary
on the morning of the 28th ult., Dr. Albert J. LESLIE. Dr. Leslie was born in Hancock county, Ohio, on the 17th day of June 1846, and consequently was in the 35th year of his earthly pilgrimage. He read medicine with his father and brother, and graduated from the Cleveland Medical College in the Spring of 1872, and in the following Summer was married to Miss Belle Robinson and settled in Convoy where he practiced medicine until that insidious but successful foe of human life, Asthmatical Consumption, compelled him to retire from practice last Fall and seek relief in a different climate, and for that purpose he moved with his family to Sacramento, California; but not obtaining the anticipated relief he returned to Convoy, arriving here on the 25th day of February, attended by his brother, Dr. B. F., who had gone to California to bring him home. He remained here a few days and then went to visit his father's family at the infirmary, from which place he was returned a corpse on the 29th ult, and on the following day his funeral was attended by a large concourse of his old friends and neighbors. He was buried in accordance with the rules and regulations of I.0.0.F., of which Order he was an eminent and devoted member. The Convoy Cornet Band also aided in the ceremony. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Elcock, of Van Wert, assisted by Rev. Knodle, of Convoy. The Doctor contracted his fatal disease during the summer of l877 at which time he litterally (sic) rode days and nights, attending his many patients, and, as he informed us, he did not take the harness from on his ponies for four consecutive days. He leaves a devoted wife and three children, one of whom seems to have inherited its father's disease. It does not seem possible that he is gone; he, the most enterprising in business, the most zealous in any cause that had claims upon him. As a citizen, he was peaceable, genteel and manly; as a public officer he labored for the advancement of any cause for public good; as a politician, he worked conscientiously, industriously and intelligently for the party of his choice; as an Odd Fellow, his fellows testify that he was careful of its welfare, and labored diligently for its good, his name heading the list of chartered members. By his death Convoy and vicinity loses a much respected citizen, Odd Fellowship, a devoted member, the medical fraternity an able brother, his father's family an affectionate son and brother, his wife and children, a devoted husband and father. FOWLER June 18th,1882, Mr. John D. Fowler, aged 43 years, 2months and 18 days. He was born in Fairfield County, Ohio and moved with his parents to Van Wert county, in 1854, where he has resided ever since. He was married to Miss Mary E Fox, in 1869, and was a kind and attentive husband and father. He leaves a wife and four children to mourn their loss. He died believing in the Saviour.
