Belmont County was one of the first counties settled when migration from the original 13 colonies began. A lot of people from Pennsylvania migrated to this area. The county was formed in 1801 from Jefferson and Washington Counties. Researchers may also find their records in Monroe County (south), Ohio County, West Virginia (east), Marshall County, West Virginia (southeast), Guernsey County, Noble County (west), Harrison County, and Jefferson County (north). St. Clairsville is the county seat for Belmont County, Ohio.
