CHARLES SMITH

Charles Fulton "Jimmy" Smith Jr., 77, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Chillicothe, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, in Houston, Texas. He was born February 22, 1923, in Chillicothe, to the late C. Fulton and Elizabeth Erdmann Smith. Surviving are nephews, Robert Decker, of Cleveland, Ohio, and John and his wife, Elaine, Decker, and their children, Mandy and Greg, all of Cleveland; and cousins, Mrs. David (Connie) Bodeker, Columbus, Mrs. Donald (Jane) Hilty, Chillicothe, and Mrs. Gilbert (Carol) Lutz, Eliot, Maine. He was predeceased by his sister, Betty Smith Decker. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery at the convenience of the family under the direction of the Ware Funeral Home. There will be no calling hours.

HARRY SMITH

Harry L. Smith, 90, of Greenfield, died Thursday, December 20, at the Greenfield Area Medical Center. He was born May 31, 1900, in Ross County, the son of Hiriam and Emily (Countryman) Smith. He was a member of the Fourth Street Holiness Church. He is preceeded in death by first wife, Violet, second wife, Nora, one son, Paul Smith, six brothers and four sisters. He is survived by four daughters, Dorothy Rose of Greenfield, Mary Gragg of Frankfort, Olive Good of Greenfield, Janice Hampton of Portsmouth, one son, Carl Hatfield of Washington C.H., 28 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Services were Saturday, December 22 at the Murray Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Burchett officiating. Burial followed at the South Salem Cemetery.

HELEN SMITH

Helen M. Smith, 67, 647 McKell Ave, Greenfield, died at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday at Greenfield Municipal Hospital. She had been ill for one year. She was a member of the Rainsboro Methodist Church. Born Dec. 13, 1907, in Ross County, she was the daughter of Adtson Elsworth Cokonougher and Hannah Mazetta Huriless. She was married to Mark I. Smith, who died Nov. 20, 1953. Survivors include four sons, Mark Smith Jr., Frankfort Rt. 1; Arnold Smith, Greenfield Rt. 1; John W. Smith, New Port Ritchie, Fla., and Lloyd E. Smith, Dayton; two daughters, Mrs. David (Helen) L. Leaverton, Greenfield, and Mrs. Loren (Roberta Lou) Karnes, Hillsboro Rt. 1; three sisters, Mrs. John (Helen) Hollar, Lyndon Rt. 1; Mrs. Stanley (Audria) Fordyce, Florida, and Mrs. Kenneth (Evelyn) Staats, Bainbridge Rt. 1; one brother, Harold Cokonougher, Massachusetts; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters. Service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Murray Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Ken Marckel. Burial will follow in Greenfield Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Thursday.

HOWARD SMITH

The funeral for Howard M. Smith, 72, of 228 W. Water st., who died May 21, was held in the Fawcett-Oliver and Glass Funeral Home, with the Rev. Everett Heskett officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery. Born Feb. 29, 1908, in Clarksburg to Minos and Ella Speakman Smith, he was married Oct. 28, 1932, to Mary Schneider, who survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Carole) Evans, Chillicothe, Mrs. Elwood (Sylvia) Long, Columbus, Mrs. Donna Fadal, Athens, and Mrs. Larry (Diana) La Tourette, Ft. Wayne, Ind.; a son, Richard A. Smith, Lyndon; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Clarel Tomlinson, Morganfield, Ky. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. A welder at the Mead Corp. 38 years, retiring in 1970, he was a member of the United Paperworkers International Union Local 731.

MILLICENT SMITH

Millicent Smith, 88, of State Route 220, Piketon, died at 6 AM Tuesday, 27 Mar 2001, at her residence. She was born 24 Dec 1912 in Waverly to Ervin W. and Ethel L. Brown. On 12 Apr 1936, she married Kahle Davis Smith, who died 10 Nov 1963. She is survived by son Kahle T. Smith, of Piketon. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Delbert, Dale, Leon and Ellis Brown; and three sisters, Marvel Breitenbach, Romona "Judy" Weichmann and Geniveve Argabright. Private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Evergreen Union Cemetery, Waverly. Friends may call at the Boyer Funeral Home 4-8 PM Thursday.

NORA SMITH

Mrs. Nora Ellen Smith, 75, of Green Hills Village, died at 3:45 p.m. Thursday in Greenfield Area Medical Center. Mrs. Smith was born Sept. 5, 1911, in Pike County to Alex and Lily Mae Levy Spurgeon. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold D. (Tony) Hester on Nov. 28, 1975, a son and two daughters. Surviving is her second husband, Harry Smith, whom she married August 1973; four sons, Lawrence Hester of New Martinsburg, Dwight and Gary Hester of Greenfield, and Warren Hester of Leesburg; nine daughters, Viola Cokonougher of Washington C.H., Mrs. Martha (Donald) Barnhart of Bainbridge, Mrs. Dorothy (Richard) Watson, Mrs. Violet (John) Coch, and Mrs. Janet (Michael) Pauley of Greenfield, Mrs. Mary (Kenneth) Kingery of Circleville, Mrs. Elizabeth (William) Hayden of Cincinnati, Mrs. Ruth (James) Barrows of Chillicothe; 51 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; and a brother, Lafayette Spurgeon of Greenfield. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Murray Funeral Home with the Rev. Norman Beckwith officiating. Burial will be in the South Salem Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon on Sunday.
