HENRY GAINES
Funeral Services are to be held at 1 pm Friday for Henry Gaines, 66, of Tipp City, Ohio, who died Tuesday at Dettmer General Hospital after a long illness. He had been a patient for ten days. Mr. Gaines was born September 26, 1893, in Scioto County, a son of Charles and Elizabeth Frazier Gaines. He had been a resident of Tipp City for many years. Surviving are his wife, Doris; two daughters, Mrs. Elsie Bennett of Chillicothe and Mrs. Betty Massie of Tipp City; a stepson, Elmer Glenn of Clearwater, Florida; six brothers, Oliver, Wayne and Thomas, all of Portsmouth; Louis of Detroit, MI; Ted and Dewey of Baltimore, Maryland; three sisters, Mrs. Pearl Marshell of Jeffersonville; Mrs. Phere Dome and Mrs. Laura Boss, both of Portsmouth; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Freda Bennett, of Circleville, preceded him in death. Services are to be conducted at Coppock-Lee Memorial Home in Tipp City. Burial is to be in New Carlisle Cemetery.

ALICE GALL
Mrs. Alice H. Gall, 81, died at her home in Sinking Springs Monday at 5 a.m., following an illness of nine months. She had been bedfast with infirmities and complications. Mrs. Gall was the widow of the late Joseph Gall. Services will take place at the residence, Wednesday at 2 p.m., with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery under the direction of O.A. Tener.

Beverly Louise Gardner, born to Glen Earl and Opal Joan Hunt Gardner in Chillicothe Hospital at 8:50 am Monday died at 7 pm. In addition to her parents, she is survived by one brother, Glen Earl, Jr. at home, W. Fifth St, Carlisle Hill; a paternal grandparents Albert W. Gardner of Canastja, NY and Mrs. Adele T. Gardner of Route 5, and maternal grandparents Virgil Hunt of Norfolk, VA and Mrs. Helen Hunt of Route 5. Graveside service will be conducted at Greenlawn Cemetery under the direction of the Ware [Funeral Home].

LLOYD GARRETT
Sgt. Lloyd Garrett, 41, of East Columbus, Indiana, died at the U.S. Veterans Hospital age 97, Tuesday evening at 9:45 pm from complications. He was sergeant in the Medical Department fo the U.S, Army. He entered the hospital, November 1926. The body will be shipped to his home in Columbus, Indiana.

FORMER ELECTIONS OFFICE DIRECTOR DEAD AT 61 - [Carrie] Mildred Garrison, 61 of Clarksburg, a former director of the Ross County Board of Elections, died at 1:10 A.M. Sunday at her home. ʓhe had been ill five months. ʍrs. Garrison was appointed director May 1975 after the resignation of Guy H. Brown. ʁt the time of her death, she was on leave of absence from the board. Her funeral will be at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home, New Holland, with the Rev. Michael Wright officiating. ʄanny Dodds, minister, will assist. ʂurial will follow in Brown's Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 P.M., Tuesday. A native of Chillicothe, she was born Aug 24, 1917, to Howard and Carrie Watson Barrows. ʓhe was a member of the Clarksburg United Methodist Church and a past worthy patron of Purity Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, New Holland. Mrs. Garrison served as director of volunteers at the old Chillicothe Hospital from 1967-1969. ʓhe also had been employed at the Mead Corp., had driven a school bus for the Adena district, had served as a precinct presiding judge for elections, and was a former county Republic club officeholder. She is survived by her husband, Harold Garrison; a daughter, Mrs. John (Penny) Kindred, Largo Florida; a son, Keith Edwin Garrison, Chillicothe; a granddaughter; and two sisters, Mrs. Edwin (Muriel) Martin, Chillicothe, and Mrs. Charles (Miriam) Mader, Columbus. ʓhe was predeceased by a brother, a sister and her parents. Memorial tributes may be made to the Ross County Unity of the American Cancer Society, 311 W. Water Street.

HAROLD GARRISON
Harold Kenneth Garrison, 84, of Chillicothe, formerly of Clarksburg died Tuesday, February 13, 2001, at 2:15 P.M. at Westmoreland Place in Chillicothe where he had been a patient since December 8, 2000. He had been ill four years. Mr. Garrison was born June 27, 1916, in Ross County to Edward M. and Leah Crabb Garrison. He was a graduate of Clarksburg High School and lived most of his life in Clarksburg before moving to Chillicothe two years ago. He owned and operated the Shell Service Station in Clarksburg for 30 years before his retirement in 1969. He was also formerly a school bus driver. Mr. Garrison was formerly Mayor of Clarksburg and had served on the Village Council. He was a former long-time Deerfield township Trustee and had served on the volunteer fire department. He was a member of the Clarksburg United Methodist Church; a 50 year member of New Holland Lodge F & AM #392 and was former committeeman for the Republican Party in Ross County. He was a World War II army Veteran and a 50 year member of the American Legion in Frankfort. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Carrie Mildred Barrows on February 11, 1979. Mr. Garrison is survived by a son, Keith Garrison and Beth of Chillicothe; a daughter and son-in-law, Penny and John Kindred, of Largo, Florida; three granddaughters, Carrie and Amy Kindred and Holly Renea Graham Kempton; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Lewis and Ruth Garrison, of Chillicothe, Richard and Rosemary Garrison of Clarksburg and Ward and Nonnie Garrison, of Washington C.H; two sisters, Dorothy Salt and her husband, Emmitt, of Chillicothe and Eloise Riccobono, of Clarksburg; several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Popeye Pool, of Clarksburg. The Funeral will be Saturday, February 17, 2001, at 1:30 P.M. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in New Holland with the Rev. Ernest A. Lucas, Jr. pastor at the Clarksburg United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Browns Chapel Cemetery near Clarksburg. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 4-8 P.M. Catherine C. Gee, 45, of 3038 Mt. Tabor Rd, Waverly, was dead on arrival at Medical Center Hospital at 1 p.m. Saturday. She was born Oct. 30, 1944, in Chillicothe and was the wife of William L. Gee, Sr. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Boyer Funeral Home, Waverly. Burial will follow in Twin Township Cemetery, Bourneville. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon until time of the service Tuesday.

Cody Alan Gibson, 14, of Blain Highway, Waverly, died unexpectedly Thursday [02 Mar 2000] at Children's Hospital, Columbus. He was born 14 Jul 1985 in Chillicothe, the son of Bret A. Gibson, Waverly, and Melody L. (Phipps) Derouin, Waverly. He was an eighth-grade student at Huntington Middle School, and attended Mount Tabor Community Church. He is survived by his parents; step-father, Mark Derouin, Waverly; one sister, Kari L. Gibson, Waverly; one half-sister, Haley M. Gibson, Waverly; maternal grandparents, Arvel and Diane Phipps, Waverly; paternal grandfather, Robert E. Gibson, Waverly; paternal grandmother, Donna K. Gibson, Waverly; maternal step-grandmother, Ruth Girouard, Washington Court House; aunt and uncles Rodney and Kimberly Young and Shannon and Amy Sexton, all of Chillicothe; aunt, Suzette Bowles, Waverly; cousins Nickolas Young, Mika and Kyle Bowles; as well as a host of special friends and relatives, and a racing buddy, Gail Carpenter. Zelma Gildow, 82, formerly of 629 Salisbury Rd., Waverly, was dead on arrival at Pike Community Hospital at 11:25 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, 1991. She was born Oct. 1, 1908 in Omega, Pike County, Ohio, and was the daughter of the late Henry and Eliza Maloy Blazer. She is survived by one son, William Gildow and wife Betty Jo, of Waverly; three grandchildren, Kevin Gildow, Connie Barch, and Jackie Taylor; two great grandchildren, Holly and Blair Taylor; one sister, Miss Marvine F. Blazer, Chillicothe; one nephew, Marvin Blazer, Riverview, Fla. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sally [Pauline], a brother Harold, and nephew Eddie. She was a member of the Omega United Methodist Church and its Women's Society. She was a retired retail grocery store clerk and a member of the Omega Grange No. 2720 and Waverly Chapter 99 O.E.S. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Boyer Funeral Home, Waverly, with the Rev. Gene James officiating, Burial will follow in the Omega Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 4-8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. There will be an Eastern Star service by Waverly Chapter No. 99 to be held at 7 p.m. Friday.

Phyllis Ann Gillum, 46, of Higby Rd., Chillicothe, died 8:33 p.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2000, in the Adena Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. She was born October 31, 1953, in Columbus, Ohio, to James R. and Bessie Taylor Estep. She is survived by her loving companion, Arnold Chaffin, Higby Rd.; her mother, Bessie Taylor Stoneburner, Higby Rd.; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Shane McGraw; and grandchildren, Megan French and Karlee McGraw, all of Kingston; sister and brother-in-law, Bessie "Bea" and Rev. Kevin McLaughlin; brother, James Estep and his companion, Edna Keeton, all of Higby Rd.; a niece, Kim Estep; and nephews, Mike Estep and Christopher McLaughlin. She was predeceased by her father. William Jennings Gilmerr, 84, of New Holland, died noon Tuesday at his home. Born July 11, 1896, in New Holland, he was the son of Levi and Alice Allen Gilmerr. Mr. Gilmerr, a retired carpenter, was the last World War I veteran living in New Holland. He was a life member and past commander of American Legion ARCH Post 477. Surviving are his widow, Norma Ater Gilmerr; two daughters, Willa Jean Ater of New Holland and Margaret Day Anders of Bookwalter; two sons, Michael Gilmerrr of Chillicothe and David Gilmerr of New Holland; stepson, Robert Entrekin of Whashington Court House; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held Friday at 1:30 pm at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in New Holland. Burial will follow in New Holland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 pm Thursday.

ORRIS GILMORE
Funeral service for Orris F. "Dick" Gilmore, 85, will be held at 10:30 am Saturday at the Ware Funeral Home. The Rev. Irvin Lane will officiate and burial will follow in Brown's Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call the funeral home after 4 p.m. Friday. Mr. Gilmore died unexpectedly Tudesday night at his home, 604 Buckeye St. He retired in 1962 from the Chillicothe Veterans Administration Hosptal with more than 30 years of service. A native of Ross County, he was born Jan. 7, 1894, to George and Dona Foster Gilmore. On Dec. 13, 1923, he was married to the former Eva I. Laessle, who died Dec. 22, 1960. Survivng are a son, Orris F. Jr., Fairfax, Va., and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sisters and five brothers. Mrs. Gilmore was an Army veteran of World War I.

CARL C. GIVENS
Carl Conway Givens, 95, of Chillicothe, OH, departed this life on Friday, November 3rd, at Adena Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born March 17, 1911 in Waverly, OH to Andrew and Bertha (Besch) Givens. He graduated from Beaver High School in 1928 as Valedictorian. He worked eighteen years on the C&O Railroad as a crane operator loading things on and off the railcars. Entering the Army at the age of thirty-three he honorably served his country in World War II as a private and a Tech 4 as a crane operator (1943-46) in the Guadalcanal and the Philippines. He enjoyed a long career as a self-employed heavy equipment operator in Pike County and in Frankfort. "I came up to Frankfort to do one bulldozing job and ended up staying fifty years." He logged over twenty thousand hours alone on his bulldozer.
Being a small aircraft pilot until age eighty, he bought his first airplane in 1931 and later purchased six more. Enjoying aviation all of his life he created his own airstrip on his farm. Friends and relatives frequently flew in and out of his property, stopping to tell flying stories. He had been a NASCAR enthusiast for over fifty years, attending the Indianapolis 500 for over forty years. He was a member of the Frankfort American Legion Post 483 for forty-seven years. He often responded to the needs of the community with his bulldozer or backhoe. He was a great storyteller and enjoyed the company of his friends at the Frankfort Corner Restaurant.
Carl is survived by his devoted wife of fifty-five years, Jane (Voelker) Givens, daughters Karen (Ron) Lovely and Connie Cook (Jerry Fink), six grandchildren: Jason, Marisa, Brennan, and Sawyer Lovely, and Anthony and Lauren Cook, two brothers; Norman and Robert both of Frankfort, OH. He was preceded in death by his close friend Bob Zurmehly, his parents, two sisters: Martha Slagle and Virginia Ziski, two brothers: Paul and Henry Givens.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at 11 AM at the Ebright Funeral Home, Frankfort, with Rev. Glen Hiles officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort where military honors will be accorded by the Frankfort American Legion. Friends may call the funeral home from 5 to 8 PM on Monday. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Concord Township Emergency Squad, PO Box 616 Frankfort OH 45628.

GIVENS, Dorothy
After a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease, Dorothy Givens departed this earth to be at home with her Lord on January 21, 2004. She was born October 10, 1920 to the late Charles F. and Sarah Kathryn Anderson Cotrel, of Beaver, Ohio.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Robert Givens; son Craig (Rebecca) Givens, daughter, Marcia (Brian) Dudley of Scottsdale, AZ, granddaughter, Elizabeth Dudley; sisters Pauline Cooper, of Hemet, CA; Jeanne Estep, of Vandalia, OH; and Kathryn “Kitty” Herby of West Chester, OH. She was preceded in death by sisters Mildred Bradley and Ruth Richardson, and brothers Jackie Cotrel and Charles Cotrel., and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving Dorothy are her devoted friends Bob and Kathleen Rose. Kathleen, assisted by Bob, cared for Dorothy like one of her own for years, allowing her to pass peacefully at home.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004 at 11 a.m. in Ebright Funeral Home, Frankfort with Bob Rose officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Frankfort United Methodist Church where Dorothy was a member of the Daughters of Lydia Sunday School Class and served as church Financial Secretary for 23 years. Services for Miss Helen Glenn, 52, Pike County school teacher who died Sunday at 11 pm at the home of a sister, Mrs. George Frey, near Waverly, will be conducted at the Gregg Funeral Home, Waverly, at 2:30 pm Wednesday. The Rev. H. L. McDaniel will officiate and interment will be in the Waverly Cemetery.

GEORGE GOOD
George Elmer Good, of Kinnikinnick, passed away this morning [23 Apr 1928] at 11:30, death resulting from a two weeks' illness with heart trouble. He was born August 28, 1873 in Buffalo, Ohio, the son of Peter and Angeline Engle Good, and on September 3, 1902, he was married to Susan L. Salts, to which union 11 children were born. Four died in infancy and the survivors are the wife, and the following children, Mrs. Nora Speakman, Hazel, George, Gladys, Charles, Rosetta, and Ruth. Mr. Good was formerly employed by the Mead Pulp and Paper Company, but the past eight years he had been an employee of the Chillicothe Paper Company. He was a member of the Methodist Church at Whisler. Rev. Ciellian of the Andersonville ME Church will officiate at the funeral which will be held at the residence, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will be made in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Funeral services were held Sunday at Bainbridge for Lewis Good, 46, brother of John Good, of Ashville, who succumbed at his home last Friday. He is also survived by his widow, two sons, his father and a sister. He has lived in Bainbridge the past five years and was occupied as a steam and electrical engineer.

Peter Good, well known farmer of Green Township, died at 5:15 Monday afternoon [17 Sep 1923] of general debility, aged 80 [b 25 Aug 1843], at his home at Kinnikinnick. He is survived by one son, George E. Good, at home. The funeral was held Wednesday morning and burial was at Springbank, Rev. E.O. South officiating.

Richard "Dickie" Good, 50, of Liberty Hill Road, died early Friday morning, Jan. 21, 2000 at his residence, unexpectedly. He was born Sept. 4, 1950 in Ross County. He is survived by his parents, Everett and Louise Newsom Good, of Chillicothe. Also surviving are sons, Jason Lee Good, at home and Richard E. Good and his companion, Missy, of Chillicothe, daughter and son-in-law, Tonya L. and Lincoln Bray, of Bainbridge; grandsons, Lincoln Bray and Joey Good; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby and Donnie Chaney, Jonie and Gary Cunningham, and sister, Clara Spetnagel and her companion, Ed, and brother, Jimmy Good, all of Chillicothe; several nieces and nephews; and best buddy, Charlie Jobe, of Chillicothe. He was predeceased by his sisters, Martha Sue Magill, Nancy Louise Smith and infant sister, Lanetta Fay Good. Dickie served in the Army during the Vietnam Conflict and had worked as a mechanic at the Scioto Oliver Implement Company. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Ware Funeral Home with Rev. John "Lou" Watson officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Mrs. Susan Lucinda Good, 182 Burbridge Avenue, died Saturday evening [09 Apr 1934] from apoplexy. She was born April 17, 1886, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Saltz. She was married to George Good on September 3, 1902 and he died in 1928. Surviving are seven children, Mrs. Nora Speakman, Mrs. Gladys Kutschbach, Hazel, Rosetta, Ruth, George, and Charles all of this city. Funeral services will be held from the Church of Christ on Jefferson Avenue Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. Bond officiating. Burial will be made in Greenlawn Cemetery.

BERTHA GRAVES
Bertha L. Graves, 76, of Ray, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Friday evening, September 12, 2003, at her residence, surrounded by her family and friends, following an extended illness. She was born in Ray, Ohio, on September 5, 1927, to Wayne and Ollie Branscom Tennant, who preceeded her in death. She was united in marriage on July 15, 1944 to Pearley L. Graves, who preceeded her in death on October 10, 1988. To this union was born six children, Leslie (Brenda) Graves of Ray, Susie (Wilbur) Hale of Ray, Dale (Brenda) Graves of Londonderry, Beverly Graves of Ray, Lenora (Sam) Ifon of Tampa, Florida, and Robin (Dwight) Lankford of Tampa, Florida. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, her sister Grace McFadden Headley (Dale) of Wellston; aunts Clara Clary of Londonderry and Alace Benson of Chillicothe, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceeded in death by brothers Raymond Tennant and Darryl Tennant and sister Virginia Tennant. Bertha had been employed by Kuppenheimer Manufacturing Pants Factory in Wellston and The U.S. Shoe Corporation of Chillicothe until she was forced to retire due to illness. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Beverly Graves and Susie Hale who cared for Mother during her extended illness. She will be loved and missed by all. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Rev. Jim McFadden officiating. Mrs. Lillian Igo Graves, 54, died at 9:10 p.m. Monday at her home on Route 2. She had been ill since September. Born near Hillsboro, she is survived by her husband, Clinton F. Graves; a brother, Wendell Igo of near Hillsboro, and a half-brother, Charles Igo of Hillsboro. Mrs. Graves was a member of the Church of Christ at Sugar Tree Ridge near Hillsboro. Service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Evans & Toll Funeral Home, Hillsboro, the Rev. Shirley Barrows officiating. Burial will be in Sugar Tree Ridge Cemetery. Tumble Down Stairs Kills Humboldt Man
Creighton Gray, 48, Route 1, Bainbridge (Humboldt), who suffered a fractured skull Saturday about 7:30 p.m., when he tumbled headforemost down the full flight of 13 steps of a basement stairway at the Jim Ackley poolroom and beer parlor, Bainbridge, died at 7:55 a.m. Sunday in the Chillicothe hospital without regaining consciousness.
The H.B. Smith ambulance took him to the hospital where he was attended by Dr. Theodore Cutright.
Gray was born in Ross county, Feb. 19, 1895, the son of Wilson and Elizabeth Gray. Survivors include Mable Gindlesparger Gray, whom he married in 1924; five children, Harry, with the U.S. Navy at Jacksonville, Fla., Howard, Lawrence, Mary, and Laura May, at home; five brothers, Fred, of Bainbridge, Cyrus, of Greenfield, Ray and Curtis of Columbus, and Jacob of Wilmington; three sisters, Mrs. Grace Weast, Mrs. Laura Cherryholmes and Mrs. Minnie Cherryholmes, all of Bainbridge.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, 2:30 p.m., at the H.B. Smith funeral home, the Rev. Glen Mills officiating. Interment will be in Gray cemetery at Humboldt.

Mrs. Wilson Gray, age 75 years, died at her home near Humboldt, this morning at 5:00 o'clock. Mrs. Gray had been ill for two weeks with flu, and bronchial pneumonia followed. She is survived by her husband and nine children.

Mrs. Jane Gray, wife of John Gray, died Thursday afternoon [05 Mar 1903] at 3:30 at her home on East Fourth St., after a brief illness with pneumonia. The deceased was 76 years of age and leaves a husband, one son and three daughters to mourn her demise. The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at the residence, Rev. Lathrop officiating. JOHN GRAY
John [Putnam Patterson] Gray, aged 89 years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Long, on East Second St. at 4:30 Tuesday afternoon [24 Oct 1911]. Death was due to infirmities of old age. The deceased was born [19 Sep 1822] at James River, Botetourt County, Virginia, and came to Chillicothe in 1833. In 1847 he was married to Miss Jane Vincent, who died March 5, 1903. Six children were born of this union, of whom four survive, Mrs. Melvin Dixon, Mrs. Charles Guinn, and Mrs. Frank Long, and Mr. William Gray, all of this city. The funeral services will be held at the home of Mrs. Long at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon. Rev. W.L. Neal officiating. Interment will be made in Greenlawn Cemetery.

JOHN F. GRAY, SR.
John F. Gray, Sr., aged 79, of Springfield, died Friday, April 30, 1993 in Community Hospital following two weeks of serious illness. He was born June 7, 1913 in Ross County, Ohio, the son of Cyrus and Christina (Strickrott) Gray. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II and retired in 1979 with 44 years of service as a supervisor with O.S. Kelly. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Richard Stultz; a son, John F. Gray, all of Springfield; two sisters, Gladys Myers of Bainbridge, Ohio and Nellie Kinnison of Greenfield, Ohio; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Hazel L. Gray in August of 1983; a brother, Everett; and a grandson, John F. Gray III. Friends may call Monday from 5-8 p.m. in the Woods-Allgier Funeral Home. Services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Brian Wood officiating. Interment will follow in Ferncliff Cemetery.

Mrs. Christina Gray died Monday at 4:30 a.m. at her home near Fruitdale, Paint township. She had been ill since last spring.
Born October 14, 1884, the daughter of Gustave and Anna Rupel Strickrott, she was married Nov. 18, 1912 to Cyrus Gray. Mrs. Gray was a member of the Fruitdale Episcopal church.
In additional to her husband, there survive two sons, John and Everett; two daughters, Mrs. Karl Kinninson and Miss Gladys Gray; three brothers, John and Charles Strickrott, of Greenfield, and Frederick, of West Liberty; and one sister, Mrs. Floyd Everhardt, of West Liberty.
The funeral will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Fruitdale M.E. church, under the direction of R. B. Walker, funeral director of Greenfield. The Rev. Ronald Green, of Columbus, and the Rev. H.F. Miller, of Fruitdale, will officiate.
Friends may call at the home until 1 p.m. Wednesday and then at the church until funeral time.

GREENFIELD - Cyrus C. Gray, 73, of 671 Lyndon Ave., Greenfield, died at 2 a.m. Sunday in Highland Community Hospital, Hillsboro, after an extended illness.
A native of Ross County, he was born March 1, 1882, a son of Wilson and Elizabeth Buck Gray. He married Christianity [Christena] Strickrott, who died in 1939.
He is survived by two sons; John of Springfield, and Everett of Millbrook, N.Y., two daughters, Mrs. Carl Kinnison of Greenfield, Route 2, and Mrs. Clyde Meyers [Myers] pf Greenfield, Route 1; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Fred of Bainbridge, Route 1, and Roy Gray of Columbus; and three sisters, Mrs. A.B. Cherryholmes of Bainbridge, Route 1, Mrs. Harry Weast of Bainbridge, Route 2, and Mrs. Albert Cherryholmes of Greenfield.

Russel D. Greene, 47, died Monday night at his home on Route 3 after suffering a heart attack. He was owner and operator of Greeneճ Store here. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Savageville Methodist Church. He was born in Jackson on Feb. 17, 1918, to Thurman and Lottie Ross Greene. He is survived by his wife, Georgia, three sons, Jerry, Terry, and Dickie, and two daughters, Deborah and Anne, all at home; two brothers, Ivan of Ft. Worth, Tex., and George of Jackson; and a sister, Mrs. Darrell Mullins of Jackson. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, in the Sperry Funeral Home here with burial in Evergreen Cemetery here. Ethel Greenlee, 65, Frankfort Rt. 2, died at 1:30 a.m. Monday at University Hospital, Columbus. She had been ill five weeks. Born in Greenup, Ky., Oct. 15, 1908, she was the daughter of Ellis Barnhart and Nancy Ball Barnhart. She was the widow of John Greenlee, who died Aug. 30, 1968. She also was preceded in death by an infant daughter and two sisters. Survivors include one brother, A. E. Barnhart, Columbus, and three sisters, Mrs. Louise Holt, Washington C.H., Mrs. Dorothy Payne, Indianapolis, Ind., and Mrs. Ruth Knisley, Greenfield. Frank P. Griesheimer, 91, of 540 Arch St., died 3:35 pm. Feb. 12 in Marietta Place following an four and a half month illness. He was born Nov. 28, 1892, in Chillicothe, to Louis and Minnie Weichman Griesheimer. On July 13, 1918, he married the former Irene St. Clair who survives. Surviving are a son, C. Philip Griesheimer, Centerville; two grandsons, Richard and Robert Griesheimer; a great-granddaughter, Sandra K. Griesheimer. He was predeceased by three sisters and two brothers. Mr. Griesheimer was a former employee of the Hunn Meat Co. and a life member of the Salem Evangelical Church. Funeral service will be at 2 pm Wednesday in Fawcett-Oliver and Glass Funeral Home with Rev. Terry hillock officiating. Burial will following Greenlawn Cemetery. Norman "Patrick" Griggs, 65, passed away Tuesday, 17 Apr 2001 at University Hospitals East, Columbus OH. He was a past employee of The U. S. Postal Service, a U.S. Marine veteran with 13 years service, and a lifetime member of the VFW. Surviving are his wife, Deborah L. Griggs, whom he married on 02 Oct 1986; sons Timothy Griggs, Tony (Betty) Griggs, Norman (Catherine) Griggs, Jack E. Griggs, and James Bowers; daughters Edith Griggs, Lorna C. (James) Russell, Erma (Mike) Hurt and Patricia Griggs; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers Doral, Benjamin, Stanley, Carl, Jack and Charles and their families; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers and a sister. Edgar (Newton) Grooms, 62, a native of this county, who has been residing at 149 Park Street, Chillicothe, died at 6:10 A.M. July 17 [1957] at the Chillicothe Hospital after an illness of four months. Born in Pike County on April 5 1895, he was a son of Thomas and Emily Bruce Grooms. On August 5, 1918, he was married to Eliza Jane Raybourn, who survives. Also surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Mrs. Forrest Drummond, Mrs. G. Warren Gray and Mrs. Charles Coppel, and a son, Nolan D. Grooms, all of Chillicothe; two brothers, Perry Grooms of Peebles, Route 1, and G. C. Grooms of Chillicothe; and 13 grandchildren. Mr. Grooms was a veteran of World War One, a member of the High Street Church of Christ in Christian Union, and secretary of the Carribbean Mission. Funeral services were held at 2 P.M. Friday at the High Street Church of Christ in Christian Union in Chillicothe with Rev. Floyd Terry officiating. Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery there. Friends called at the Ware Funeral Home until time for the final rites.

Mrs. Hagemann was the mother of Mr. Carl F. Hagemann, vice president and cashier of the First National Bank, and of Miss Anne S. Hagemann, Central School teacher. Denver F. Hardbarger, 74, of Chillicothe, died 6:05 p.m. January 16, 2000, at his residence following an extended illness. He was born July 28, 1925, in West Virginia, to the late George W. and Hanora G. Price Hardbarger. On July 22, 1949, he married Iris V. Woods, who preceded him in death April 12, 1971. Surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah (Bruce) Heidell, Stoutsville, Ohio, Diana (John) Buskirk, Ava Denise (James) Pontious, Dedra (Howard) Kellough, Dawna (Rodney) Gragg, all of Chillicothe, Dana (Kevin) Norman, Waverly, and Darlene (Dave) Long, Chillicothe; sons and daughter-in-law, Merle Fredrick (Margaret) Hardbarger and Denver Michael Hardbarger, all of Chillicothe; 23 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruby Tracewell; numerous nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Delmus Hardbarger; and his faithful dog, "Killer". He was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters, and two grandchildren. Mr. Hardbarger worked as a carpenter and was a member of the Carpenters Local 1255. He was an avid hunter and trap shooter, belonging to the Paint Valley Fox Hunters Club and the NRA. He also attended Baptist Hill Church. Alazuma Harmon, wife of Joseph Harmon, died at their home in Adelphi Thursday evening [04 Feb 1926] at five o'clock of valvular heart trouble; having been a sufferer for a number of years. She was born September 18, 1859, in South Perry, Ohio, and was the daughter of Terry L. and Helen (Floyd) Moore. She was united in marriage with Joseph Harmon, who with two sons and one daughter, survive to mourn their loss. The funeral will occur from the M.E. Church at Adelphi, tomorrow, Feb. 6th, at 1 p.m., with Rev. Thomas officiating, and burial by Director Defenbaugh will be in Green Summit cemetery, at Adelphi.

She was born May 13, 1922 in Omega, Ohio, daughter of Wilbert and Francis Adrian Echard. She married Hugh H. Harris on July 15, 1946, who died March 12, 1975. She was a homemaker. She attended Omega United Methodist Church, and was a former member of the Omega Grange. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law: John and Marla Harris of Omega; three grandchildren, Sean, Christopher, and Stephanie Harris; two brothers, Victor Echard of Harrisburg, Ohio, and Chester Echard of Circleville, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Dale (Greta K.) Funeral services for Hugh Harris, 64, of Omega will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Boyer Funeral Home in Waverly, with the Rev. Marion Conkel officiating. Mr. Harris died at 10:55 a.m. Wednesday [12 Mar 1975] at the Ross County Medical Center after being in failing health for the past several years. He was born August 17, 1910, a son of Jacob and Ocie Maloy Harris. He is survived by his father; his wife, Aletha Echard Harris, whom he married July 15, 1946; a son, John of Omega; one brother, James C. of Greenfield; and a half-sister, Mrs. Opal Graves of Columbus. He was predeceased by his mother, who died in 1953, and one brother. Mr. Harris retired from the Chillicothe Veterans Hospital after 25 years of service. He was a World War II veteran and a member of the Omega Grange. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 until 9 Thursday and after 2 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in the Omega Cemetery.

Mrs. Ocie Harris, 73, a life-long Pike County resident, succumbed at the residence in Omega at 4 p.m. Saturday [10 Oct 1953] following several years illness. Born in Pike County, on May 31, 1880, she was a daughter of Alfred and Julia England Maloy. Surviving are her husband, J[acob] S[ylvestor] Harris, two sons, Hugh and Corbett, all of Omega: a grandson; one sister, Mrs. Roy McKinney of Springfield; and three brothers, Cutler Maloy of Springfield, William Maloy of Chillicothe, and Mason Maloy of Athens. Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Omega Methodist Church with the pastor, the Rev. Mr. Jarvis officiating. Burial followed in Omega cemetery under the direction of the Howe Company Funeral Home of Piketon.

Betty Lou Hart, 47, of 688 Eastern Ave., died at 8:05 p.m. Sept 1 in Mt. Carmel Medical Center, Columbus. She was born Dec. 31, 1940, in Chillicothe to Robert and Ida Seymour Clark. On July 1, 1960, she married Donald L. Hart, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Donald Hart II and Scott Daniel Hart, both of the residence; two sisters, Mrs. Cecil (Erma Jean) O’Neal, Enon, and Mrs. James (Mary) Spurgeon, Lynchburg; four brothers, Earl and John Clark, both of Chillicothe, and Dean Clark, Columbus, and Robert Seymour, Kinston.
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the Fawcett-Oliver and Glass Funeral Home, with Rev. Corbin Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Boblett Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 4-8 p.m. Saturday.

Donald L. Hart, 64, of Chillicothe, died 8:43 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, in the Adena Regional Medical Center, unexpectedly. He was born Sept. 1, 1937, in Chillicothe, to John W. and Dorothy M. Penrod Hart. On July 1, 1959, he married Betty Clark, who died Sept. 1, 1988. Survivors include two sons, Donald L. Hart II, of Florida and Scott Hart, of Chillicothe; a brother, Ed (Joan) Hart, of Chillicothe; two sisters, Norma Jean (Carl) Norris, of Reynoldsburg and Rebecca (John) Nichols, of Chillicothe; and a special companion, Helen Hall. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Hyer and Carolyn Arledge. Mr. Hart was employed by the Ohio Auto Auction, in Grove City. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in the Haller Funeral Home, 1661 Western Ave., with Elder Milford Crabtree officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. EDGAR HATFIELD
Edgar F. Hatfield, son of Jacob and Hannah (Lowery) Hatfield was born in Alma, Ohio, January 4th, 1863, and departed this life on the 13th day of December, 1932, at the age of 69 years, 11 months and 9 days. He was married to Adelia Colvin, December 23, 1885, who preceded him in death July 3, 1900. The following children were born to this union; Purl of Kingston, Earl A. and Bert of Williamsport, O., and Alva J., of Chillicothe, Ohio, Bertha Dray and Anna Bryant of Washington C.H. Ohio. On March 26th, 1901, he was united in marriage to Clara Harris of Omega, Ohio. To this union son was born, Limon E. The mother and son are both deceased. On December 12th, 1909, he was again untied in marriage to Mrs. Fannie Frye who is left to mourn his loss, also two step-sons, Berchel and Edgar Frye of Columbus, Ohio. Also eighteen living grandchildren and one grandchild dying in infancy. Many other relatives and friends also mourn his death. The deceased leaves two brothers, Warren K. and James of Chillicothe, Ohio, one brother, Louis, and one sister, Ida Lugenbell, deceased. The deceased united at an early age with the Methodist Protestant Church at Alma, Ohio, and has been a faithful Christian until time of his death. Miss Marie Haubeil, 73, formerly of 516 McKellar St., died at 11:25 am Sunday at the Deiber Nursing Home following an extended illness. A native Pike Countian, she was born on Aug. 20, 1894, to George F. and Kathryn Farney Haubeil. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Claude (Christine) Ortman, 239 Cedarwood Dr., a brother, Otto G., Route 6, two nieces and three nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Clarence and Louie. Miss Haubeil was a member of the Concord Methodist Church. The funeral will be at 10 am Wednesday at the Ware Funeral Home with the Rev. Ralph E. Huber officiating. MARGUERITE HAWK
Mrs. Marguerite Leach Hawk, 53 of Takoma Park, Md., died Sunday evening in the Washington Sanitarium and Hospital at Silver Spring, MD, following a lengthy illness. She was born in Chillicothe on March 23, 1911 to Omer and Marietta Moats Leach. She was married to Lester G. Hawk, who survives. Also surving are her mother who lives in Chillicothe; five sisters, Mrs. Cora Knab and Mrs. Ruth Easterday of Chillicothe, Mrs. Dorothy Straughan and Mrs. Mildred Dietz of Silver Springs, MD. and Mrs. Pauline Frye of Washington, DC; and a brother, the Rev. Clarence O. Leach of Beaver. Service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday under the direction of the Pumphrey Funeral Home in Silver Spring, MD. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.

Memior of Mrs. Amanda Hayes
Amanda E. Hayes, daughter of James and Sophia Gray, was born in Ross County, Ohio, June 10, 1847, and passed to her eternal home Nov. 26, 1926, at 3:50 a.m., aged 79 years, 5 months, and 15 days.
She was united in marriage to James. B. Hayes, and to this union were born six children, three of whom, Stanley, Madge, and Girgia, preceded her to the great beyond, while the other three, Leroy Hayes, Mrs. Clarence Fetherlin, both of Greenfield, and Mrs. Scott Tudor of Dayton, Ohio, together with her husband and one brother, Wilson Gray, are left to mourn their loss.
Mrs. Hayes gave her heart to Christ in the early years of her girlhood and renewed her consecration to and faith in Jesus Christ during the pastorate of the Rev. M.L. LeSourd, at which time she united with the First M.E. Church at Greenfield, and in which she has retained her membership unbroken through these years.
Physical indisposition for more than a quarter of the century prevented attendance upon the church services with any degree of regularity. However, she took great delight in visiting the sick in the neighborhood contiguous to her home, and doing something to relieve the suffering of others.
She was an ardent worker in the South since W.C.T.U. and pinned on her breast today is the little white ribbon that she was always proud to wear.
During the World War, through frail and leaning on her cane, she went from house to house in their locality soliciting fruit and jellies for the boys in Cantonment at Chillicothe at which time she collected almost 100 cans and glasses.
Never a Sabbath morning came, but that Mother Hayes in her blessing at the table especially asked that the Lord would bless all the churches, and the ministers of the gospel that day.
Truly Mother Hayes knew God, and does today and shall through all eternity share absolute freedom from suffering and pain, and as she has longed for many years now "Sees Him face to face, and shall tell the story saved by grace."
She is now: "Where sickness, sorrow, pain, and death, are felt, and feared no more." "And day without night, She shall feast in God's sight and eternity seem as a day."
At Home with God!
Rest, warrior rest, thy work is done, And thou are crowned at last."

Va., the daughter of Brady and Nellie (Mercer) Driggs. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Eldon E. Heath, Sr, two sons and a daughter-in-law; Eldon E., Jr. and Carol A. Heath and Kenneth Dwayne Heath; one daughter and son-in-law, Dianne (Heath) and Mark B. Patterson, all of Springfield; four brothers, James Driggs, of Chilllicothe, Robert Driggs, of Arizona, David Driggs, of Plain City; two sisters, Jean Ranrer, of Chillicothe and Mary F. Black, of Arizona; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother. IRENE HEDRICK
The funeral for Irene Hedrick, 90, of Bainbridge, who died May 21, was held at the Bainbridge United Methodist Church, of which she was a member. The Rev. Eugene Brown officiated. Burial was in Bainbridge Cemetery. Born Jan. 19, 1890, in Clarksburg to Jesse and Laura Goldsberry Jones, she was married to Earl "Doc" Hedrick, who died in April, 1959. The couple operated the Hedrick Drug Store in Bainbridge for a number of years. She was a charter member of the Bainbridge American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by a son, Earl, Sarasota, Fla.; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and three sisters, Luellen Zurmehly of Greenfield Manor, Sally Tootle, Clarksburg, and Grace Knudson, Boulder, Colo. She was predeceased by a son, Hugh.

John H. Heilman, 70, of Chillicothe, died 12:35 pm Monday, February 5, 2001, in the Adena Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born August 6, 1930, in Taretum, Penn., to the late Ralph F. Heilman Sr., who was a former Mayor of Chillicothe, and Gladys I. Harvey Heilman. He was married December 10, 1955, to Bernice Strausbaugh, who survives, along with daughter Beth An Leasure, Las Vegas, NV; daughter and sonЩn-law, Karen and Eric Carver, of Chillicothe; three grandchildren, Megan Elizabeth Leasure, James Eran Leasure and Caitlin Amanda Leasure; sister-in-law, Patsy Heilman, of Chillicothe; and several cousins. He was predeceased by brother, Ralph F. ҂udӠHeilman, Jr. and sister, Sue Ann Heilman. In 1995, John retired as Senior Project Engineer from WearEver, where he had worked for 47 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. The funeral will be held 3:30 p.m. Thursday with Rev. James W. Grove officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery under the direction of the Ware Funeral Home. Friends my visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Mrs. JOHN HEINLEIN
It is with profound regret that the death Mrs. John Heinlein of Portsmouth is chronicled today. A message was received by Chillicothe relatives about 6:30 o'clock Tuesday morning conveying the sad news that her death had occurred early that morning. Her illness had been a serious nature from the first, having been taken with rheumatism abut two months ago and the recent high waters in the River City only tended to aggravate her malady. Other complications arose and about three weeks ago typhoid fever developed. Her condition had been critical from the first but her family and friends had hoped against hope but to no avail. The deceased was 28 years old. She was the daughter of Mrs. Minnie Kellar of High street [Chillicothe]. She was possessed of musical ability beyond the ordinary and was a very popular soloist during the some popular favor in the River City, having been engaged as a soloist in one of the churches. For a number of years she was the soprano at the St. Peter's Catholic church. She removed to Portsmouth about a year ago with her husband. Beside her husband she is survived by her mother, who was at her bedside during her illness; and two brothers, Arthur of this city and Henry of Springfield. The remains will be brought to this city Wednesday and funeral arrangements will be deferred until the husband arrives.

JAMES HENNESS
On Thursday, May 27 [1886], at about twelve o'clock, noon, James Henness, a well-known and well-to-do farmer, of Ross County, died at his home upon his farm, about eight miles from the city upon the Frankfort pike. Mr. Henness was in his sixty-seventh year at the time of his death, and had for many years been an invalid, although the attack which caused his demise, a complication of diseases, had prostrated him during the early spring. The funeral services will take place upon Sunday afternoon at three o'clock at Shiloh church, Rev. Z. Wharton officiating, the deceased being a Methodist in profession of faith and the remains will be interred in the Baptist grave yard at Frankfort. There are friends in the community at large who will regret his death.

Paul L Henry, 58, of Lucasville, was pronounced dead on arrival Sunday at a Toledo hospital. A native of Lucasville and an Army veteran of World War II, he was a sheet metal worker for Mechanical Construction Co, and a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 98, James Dickey Post American Legion, and the R-C Portsmouth Radio Control Airplane Club. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Julia Van Kirk Henry; a son, Donald of Sciotoville; a brother, Walter of Chillicothe, and two grandchildren. Services are planned at 1:30 pm Wednesday at Windel-Howland and Brant Funeral Home in Portsmouth, with Rev. Marvin Dowson officiating, and burial in Rushtown Cemetery with military graveside services by James Dickey Post, friends may call at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 Tuesday.

ALICE HERMAN
Alice Herman, age 89, of Frankfort, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at her daughter's home, near Frankfort. She was born on April 30, 1914, near Frankfort, the daughter of the late Frank and Hannah Beatty Kendall. On May 7, 1938, she married Stephen V. Herman, who preceded her in death on Aug. 16, 1981. She is survived by three daughters, Betty (Robert) Vollmar, of Chillicothe, Brenda (John) Dreitzler, of Frankfort, and Barbara (Nicholas) Cleary, of Clarksburg. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Toni Bradford, Gordon Vollmar, Wendy Case, Michael Dreitzler, Angela Proehl, Dan Dreitzler, Lora Cleary, Victor Cleary; 15 great-grandchildren and one on the way. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lena Mae Snyder, and two brothers, Robert N. Kendall and John Rueben Kendall. Alice had worked at the candy counter at Kresgee's Store and retired from the K-mart in Chillicothe. She was a 1933 graduate of Frankfort High School. Alice was a faithful member of Lattaville United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher as well as Sunday School Superintendent. She was also active in the United Methodist Women. Alice was a very loving person and was held in high esteem by her family and her many friends. She will be missed by all who knew her. Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at 1 p.m. in Ebright Funeral Home, Frankfort, with Bob Rose officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort. ALVA HESS
Ill four years, Alva Hess, 72, died at 5:15 am Thursday at his home on Route 6. Born at Upshur, W. Va., on Oct. 5, 1882, he was a son of Charles and Virginia Goodwin Hess. On Oct. 25, 1907, he married Eva Smith, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Jay Hess of near Ray and Ralph Hess of Chillicothe, Route 2; a daughter, Mrs. Merle Kitchen of Chillicothe, Route 6; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; four brothers, Delva of Chillicothe, Route 1, Everett and Ova, both of Columbus and Virgil of Chillicothe; and a sister, Mrs. Eva Ault of Chillicothe, Route 6. A son, Floyd Hess, died in March of this year. Services will be at 2 pm Saturday at Friends Church in Londonderry, and burial will be in Londonderry Cemetery under direction of the Wrightsel Funeral Home, McArthur. Isaac Hickel, 74, died January 13 [year unknown] at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ralph Whaley of Roxabel. Born near Clarksburg, he was the son of Christopher and Elizabeth Adams Hickel. He was married to Orpha Stevens who died about seven or eight years ago. Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Whaley; two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Trump and Mrs. Edith Steinhauser of Clarksburg; and three brothers, Martin and Samuel Hickle of Williamsport, and John, of Washington Court House. Burial will be in Frankfort Cemetery.

John David Hickman, 53 year old well-known local heavy equipment owner and operator, of 500 S. Market St., died a few moments after arrival at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Pike County Hospital. He was rushed to the hospital by the Waverly Emergency Squad. Death was attributed to a heart ailment and he had been ill for several months. Born May 31, 1914 in Ross County, he was a son of the late Jack E. and Margaret (Terry) Hickman. On July 12, 1930, he married the former Verda Littlejohn, who survives at home. Also surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Jean Claytor, of 425 Hillside Ave., Waverly; four grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Maribelle Drennen and Mrs. Martha Schauseil, both of Waverly, Mrs. Clarice Cunningham of Chillicothe, Mrs. Alice Markham and Mrs. Evelyn Finch, both of Columbus; and two brothers, Jack E. Hickman of Westerville and Allen Hickman of Columbus. Mr. Hickman was preceded in death by his parents, one son and one brother. Aged Woman Passes Away - Martha Hickman is Buried in County Saturday -- Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 10:30 o'clock in Pleasant Valley church for Mrs. Martha Hickman who died Wednesday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Terry of Columbus. Burial was made in the Hickman cemetery. Mrs. Hickman, a daughter of Monroe and Sarah Leach was born in Jackson County, January 21, 1856. She was the widow of John Dye Hickman and is survived by her daughter with whom she made her home, a son, Jack, of Chillicothe, a brother, Charles Leach, of London, 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

TOMMY HICKMAN
Tommy J. Hickman, age 25, of Savageville Road, Jackson, passed away Monday, August 12, 2002, at Holzer Medical Center, Jackson, Ohio. He was born October 24, 1976, in Franklin County, Ohio. Tommy was a corrections officer at the London Correctional Facility. He is survived by his father, Donald Hickman, of Jackson; his mother Barbara (Campbell) Elam of Jackson; one son, Tyler Hickman and one daughter Caylie Hickman, both of Jackson; special friend, Carla Tobert of Jackson; two sisters, Shelby Jones of Jackson and Sarah Spencer of Chillicothe, Ohio; several nieces and nephews also survive. Friends may call at the Mayhew Funeral Home, Wednesday, August 14 from 4 to 8 p.m. where services will be held Thursday, August 15 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Jack Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Hickman Cemetery.

JACK HICKMAN DIES SATURDAY - Retired Farmer Is Taken By Heart Attack -- Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock in the Pleasant Valley church for Zachariah (Jack) Hickman, 68-year-old retired Waverly farmer, who was found dead as the result of a heart attack Saturday morning. Mr. Hickman, a native of Jackson county, had come over from Waverly to visit near his old family home at Limerick when he suffered the heart attack. He was found dead in the lane near Jack Hickman's residence. Mr. Hickman is survived by his wife, Margaret, of Columbus, three sons, Allen and Zachariah, Jr. of Columbus and John of Waverly; five daughters, Evelyn Finch of Jackson, Alice Markham of Columbus, Clarice Cunningham of Chillicothe, and Martha Schauseil and Maribelle Drenner [sic: Drennen] of Waverly, and one sister, Violet Terry of Columbus. The body was taken from the Don Sperry funeral home Monday noon to the Eagen funeral home at Waverly where it remained until services are conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Pleasant Valley church with Elder Roy Beatty officiating. Interment was made in the Hickman cemetery under the direction of the Don Sperry funeral service.

MARGARET HIGGINS
At 97, Mrs. Margaret Brown Higgins passed away at 6:15 p.m. Sunday, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Ingle, in Bainbridge. Mrs. Higgins was born August 16, 1840, the daughter of Alexander and Mary Brown. On December 25, 1865, she married William Higgins. She is survived by three of her eight sons and daughters; Mrs. Ingle, Mrs. Jessie Anderson of Chillicothe, and Richard Higgins of Charleston, W. Va. Nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild survive. Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Ingle, with the Rev. Chauncey Gleason officiating. Burial will be in Bainbridge cemetery.

Charles (Bob) Hiles, 62, of 644 McClain Ave., Greenfield, died at 9:20 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, in his home following a 3-1/2 month illness. Born March 27, 1923 in Pike County, he was the son of John Warden Hiles and Hallie Lytle Hiles Ford of Springfield. A mill operator at Armco Steel in Washington C.H. and a U.S. Army World War II veteran, Mr. Hiles is survived by his wife, the former Bernice Marie Comer; two sons, Harold Raymond Hiles of Cincinnati and Gerald C. Hiles of Wilmington; two daughters, Mrs. David (Martha Aileene) Ross of Milford and Mrs. Bobby (Margie Lucille) Trefz of Ohio 28-E, Greenfield; six grandchildren; and two brothers, Forrest Hiles of Springfield and William Hiles of Gulfport, Miss. He was preceded in death by a grandson and two brothers. Mr. Hiles was a member of the Greenfield Masonic Lodge No. 318 and the Greenfield Church of Christ. Service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Murray's Funeral Home with James and Dennis Dawes officiating. Burial will be in South Salem Cemetery. Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Myrack M. (Jack) Hill, 70, of 812 1/2 Jefferson Ave., died at 811 p.m.Sunday at his son's summer camp on Three Locks Road. The sheriff's office said Mr. Hill had been working on the camp with his son, John, and suffered a heart attack. He was given oxygen and artificial resuscitation. He was a member of the Elks, the Eagles, the Modern Woodmen of America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. On Aug. 27, 1958 he retired from the B and O Railroad where he was an electrical stationary engineer for 45 years. Born May 30, 1893 in Vinton County he was the son of Ross and Mamie Ralph Hill. On Feb 24, 1915, he married Lenora Watters who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, James L. (Jean) Mitchell of 840 Jefferson Ave; a son John Hill of 801 Western Ave.; two grandchildren, Jacquelyn Hill and Kimberly Mitchell, three sisters, Mrs. Ethel Barnes of Santa Anna, Calif., Mrs Goldie Short of Allensville and Mrs. Nora Templin of Greenfield, and two brothers, Charles of New Holland and Walter of Williamsport. Private service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Ware Funeral Home with the Rev. Arthur Lowe officiating.ʠBurial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Tuesday where Eagles service will be at 7 p.m. Elks service will follow at 7:30.

MONROEVILLE, Feb 18--Charles Thomas Hillson, 62, well known barber here for the past 46 years, died, Thursday at his home on S. Main St. of a heart attack. He was born in Monroeville, June 4, 1886, and spent his life here. Surviving are his widow, Clara; three sons, Melvin, Rapid City S. D., Gilbert, Lorain, and James, a student at Bowling Green State University; one daughter, Mrs. Frances Thielen, Toledo; four grandchildren; one brother, Albert, Norwalk; and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Shepard and Mrs. Mable West, both Crestline. The body is at the Edward J. Gross Funeral Home where friends may call after 7 p.m. today and where the Rosary will be recited at 8 pm Sunday by the Holy Name Society. Services will be held at 9:15 am Monday in the funeral home.

DANIEL HIXON
Daniel Hixon, son of William and Matilda Cox Hixon, born Nov. 2, 1852, at South Salem, was stricken with paralysis on Feb. 3 and departed this life on Feb. 22, at his home in Bourneville. His age was 77 years, three months and twenty days. Mr. Hixon had lived in Ross county most of his life. He is survived by his wife and two daughters: Mrs. Julia Treber of Bainbridge and Mrs. Florence Dickerson, of Washington C.H.; six grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was a kind and loving husband and he will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Funeral services were held Monday, 2 p.m., at Bourneville M.E. church. The burial was at Bainbridge.

GREENFIELD - Ill three weeks, James Hixon, 64, of 405 E. Second St., Greenfield, died at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Fayette Memorial Hospital, Washington, C.H. A bridge foreman for the DT&I railroad, he had been employed by that company for 38 years.
Mr. Hixon was born in Spargursville on Feb. 4, 1891, the son of James and Ida Means Hixon.
Surviving are his wife, the former Dora Wipert; a son, James Hixon, Jr., Washington, C.H.; a brother Orville Hixon, living in the state of Wyoming; five sisters, Mrs. Homer Myers and Mrs. Jesse Wipert, both of Bainbridge, Route 1, Mrs. Charles Smith and Mrs. A.B. Frazee, both of Springfield, and Miss Olive Hixon, Los Angeles, Calif.; and three grandchildren. A daughter predeceased him.
Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Murray Funeral Home, Greenfield, with burial in the Greenfield Cemetery. Friends may call at the residence between 7 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. Saturday.

John Hoffman, age 77, died at his home on McClain avenue Saturday morning following a lingering illness. He is survived by the widow and five children - James E. of Lawrenceville, Ills., John B. of Newark, O., Cary T., Ralph and Fred of this city. Also seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two sisters and two brothers. With the exception of a few years, Mr. Hoffman had resided all of his life in the vicinity of Greenfield, having been born in Buckskin township. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Church of Christ in Christian Union, McClain avenue and Fifth street, and burial made in Waugh's cemetery. [NB: John was the husband of Mary Elizabeth McFarland, d/o Jake and Ellen McFarland.]

MARY E. HOFFMAN CLAIMED HERE -- Mrs. Mary E. Hoffman, 83, life-long resident of this community died at 11 o'clock, Wednesday night at the home of a son Fred, 636 Dickey ave. The daughter of Jake and Ellen McFarland, she was born April 30, 1859, in Ross County near Greenfield. Rev. Hubert Sharp will conduct last rites at the R.B. Walker funeral home at 2 p.m. Saturday, and interment will be made in Waugh's cemetery near Thornton. Friends will be received at the funeral home. Mrs. Hoffman is survived by five sons, Fred of Greenfield, Ralph and John of Fruitdale, James E. of Lawrenceville, Ill., and Carey of Springfield; a sister, Mrs. Lizzie Stakely of Clarksburg.

OFFMAN RITES TO BE HELD AT MURRAY CO. FRIDAY - Funeral services for Nathan Dawson Hoffman, 77-year-old farmer of R.F.D. 1, Greenfield, and a life-long resident of Buckskin township, Ross county, will be conducted from the Murray Co. chapel, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Franklin Norris, pastor of the United Brethren church, will officiate at the last rites and at interment in Greenlawn cemetery, Frankfort. Neighbors will serve as pallbearers. Hoffman died about noon, Wednesday, at his home in the Slate Hill community. He had been in ill health for two years. Deceased was born Aug. 24, 1861, the son of John and Margaret Freshour Hoffman. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Hile Kennedy and Miss Blanche Hoffman, both of whom lived with their father; a granddaughter, Margaret Kennedy; and one sister, a resident of Holliday's Cove, W. Va. Hoffman's wife, Miss Minnie Bell before their marriage, preceded him in death in 1936. Relatives and friends may view the body at the Murray Co. Funeral Home.

Emily Jane Hollar, 69, of South Salem, died Friday, June 13, 2003, at her residence. Born Jan. 17, 1934 in Highland County, she was the daughter of Ralph Evans and Orah (Moore) Evans. She is survived by her husband, Richard Martin Hollar, to whom she was married June 30, 1953; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Roberta Hollar of Greenfield and Keith and Tammy Hollar of Greenfield; one daughter and son-in-law, Debbi and Joe Stewart of Greenfield; three grandchildren, Vanessa Jennings of Greenfield and Adam and Alex Hollar of Greenfield; five step-grandchildren, Jan and Jenny Truman of Greenfield and Brian, Tyler and Megan Stewart of Chillicothe; one brother and three sisters-in-law, Ralph and Mary Evans of Orient, Bonnie Smith of Greenfield and Flossie Pryor of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Evans, and her mother, Orah Wagoner. She was a homemaker and a former employee of the U.S. Shoe Factory in Greenfield. John M. Hollar, 84, of Lower Twin Road, Lyndon, died at 3:40 a.m. Monday in the Leigh-Lane Care Center. Mr. Hollar was born Feb. 23, 1900, in Ross County to George and Alice Miller Hollar. He was a farmer, retired school bus driver for the Buckskin School, a former State Highway Department employee in Ross County, and a member of the Greenfield Eagles Lodge. He was preceded in death by a son, Brice Hollar, one brother and four sisters. Surviving is his wife, the former Hazel M. Cokonougher, whom he married July 11, 1923; one son, Richard M. Hollar, of Lyndon; four daughters, Mrs. Betty J. Ely, Mrs. Margaret Wise and Mrs. Bonnie Smith, all of Greenfield, and Mrs. Flossie (Robert) Pryor, of Columbus, eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Georgia Stout, of Greenfield. David L. Hollis, 62, of Chillicothe , died 9:30 PM Tuesday March 27, 2001, at his residence following an extended illness. He was born Feb. 28, 1939 in Ross County to the late Frederick and Thelma Campbell Hollis. He was married June 14, 1958 to Beverly A. Pontious, who survives. Also surviving are daughter and son-in-law Pamela and Thomas Lawhorn, Chillicothe; sons and daughter-in-laws, David E. and Teresa Hollis, Gallipolis, Vistor F. and Rhonda Hollis, Chillicothe, and Lee A. and Patrica Hollis, Chillicothe; seven grandchildren: Krista and Bryson Lawhorn, Joshua and Stephanie Hollis and Jamie, Leah and Shelby Hollis; sisters Margaret Thompson, Judy Detty and Edna Detty, all of Chillicothe, brother and sister-in-law Everett and Ruth Hollis of Canada, and several nieces and nephews and special niece and nephew Harry and Judy Blankenship. He was precedeased by a sister and two brothers. David was a devout member of St. Mary`s Catholic Church, where Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10 a.m. Saturday with the Reverend Lawrence Hummer, celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. at the Ware Funeral Home where a wake service will be held at 8:30 PM. Billy Joe Holloway, 67, of Bainbridge, Ohio, died Sunday, May 17, 1998 at Highland District Hospital, Hillsboro. Born Feb. 20, 1931 in Lansing, Tennessee, he was the son of Clarence and Ardella (Bowling) Holloway. On Nov. 7, 1973 he married Rosie Bell Smith Holloway, who survives. Also surviving are five children, Sharon Reed, David (Bonnie) Holloway, Lewis Holloway, Amy (Jeremy) Mason and Rebecca (John) Holloway; 10 brothers and sisters, Luci Langston, Ray Beets, Roger Beets, Greg Beets, Lynn Beets, Margie Hess, Linda Garcia, Sam Beets, Jr., Mary Wiles and Gery Beets; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was an avid hunter. A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 23 in the Bainbridge Cemetery with the Rev. John Gray officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements by the Smith-Moore Funeral Home in Bainbridge.

Dale B. Holloway, 87, of Xenia, formerly of Springfield, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at Greene Memorial Hospital in Xenia. He was born in Ross County on July 28, 1916 to Jesse Clyde and Margaret (Morgan) Holloway. He graduated from Buckskin High School and Springfield Business College. On June 17, 1939 he married Marjorie Anderson, who died Dec. 14, 2000. They made their home in Springfield for 60 years before moving to Outlook Pointe Assisted Living Center in Xenia. He was retired from the Champion Company and was a long-standing member of the Masons, Clark Lodge No. 101 and Northminister Presbyterian Church. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and William Wright of Xenia; granddaughter, Joan and husband, Frank McLain of Galloway; grandson, Gregory Wright and wife, Martha Mai of Washington, D.C.; and great-grandchildren, Mallory and Matthew McLain of Galloway. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Ruth Bristley of Lyndon; brother-in-law, O. Eugene Storts of Dublin; brother-in-law and wife, Willard and Joann Anderson of South Salem, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Also preceding him in death were a brother and his wife, Jesse Grant and Eunice Lee Holloway. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003 at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield. Visitation will be held one hour before the service. Earnest V. (Buster) Holt, 80 , of Greenfield, died Tuesday in Cincinnati Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was born June 1, 1919, in Highland County; and is survived by his wife, Irene Elizabeth Holt, and two sons. He was retired from Vulcan Shoe Heel Factory, South Charleston. Mrs. Ida H. Honnold, 95, of the Our House Nursing Home, formerly of the Foulke Block, died at 5:25 a.m. Wednesday in Chillicothe Hospital following a brief illness. Born June 17, 1869, in Chillicothe to Adam and Melissa Henkel Gartner, she was a member of the Walnut Street Methodist church and a charter member of it's Martha Mary Circle. She was married to Samuel Honnold who died in 1948. She is survived by three nieces, Mrs. Harry S. Allen of Waverly, and Mrs. George H. Mathewson and Miss Irene Mader of Chillicothe; and one nephew, Albred Gartner, also of Chillicothe. She was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters. JOHN HOPKINS
John Hopkins, 74, Wakeman, died Saturday, April 18, 1998, at home following a lengthy illness. He was born in Portsmouth on December 21, 1923, and has lived in the Wakeman-Vermilion area for the past 40 years. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during World War II. He was a job setter at the Ridge Tool Company, Elyria, for 35 years before retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Norwalk Eagles, a volunteer firefighter for Vermilion-on-the-Lake, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Carol (Kozel) Hopkins to whom he was married for 10 years; one son, Bob Hopkins of Palm Harbor FL; two daughters, Mrs. Randy (Pat) Overdorff and Marilyn Hopkins, both of Gainesville GA; two stepsons, Timothy Tabol of Flint MI, and Andrew Tabol of Vermilion; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Mary Fisher of Chillicothe; and one brother, Carson Hopkins of Elyria. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dolly (Skinner) Hopkins; one daughter, Linda Hopkins; his parents, George and Elizabeth (Nappier) Hopkins, one twin sister, Ella; and four brothers, Carl, Sam, Smitty and German Hopkins. Mrs. David [America Thomas] Howry, 85, died early Tuesday morning at her daughter's home, Mrs. Floy E. Hale, 1715 North Fourteenth street. She was born Oct. 23, 1847, in Ross County Ohio, and came to Idaho in 1883 and to Boise in 1898. Surviving are her husband, David Howry, Boise; one daughter, Mrs. Floy E. Hale, Boise; one sister, Mrs. Susan Snyder, Meridian; also one grandchild, Elwell Hale. Mrs. Howry was a member of the Immanuel M. E. church. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Immanuel M. E. church. Rev. John Gresham will officiate and burial will be in Morris Hill cemetery. David Howry, 85, died early Monday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Floy Hale, 1715 North Fourteenth street. He was born Sept. 9, 1847, in Ross County Ohio and came to Idaho in 1883 and has resided in Boise since 1898. He was a member of the Methodist church, also the I.O.O.F. lodge No. 43 of Meridian. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Floy Hale; a grandson, Elwell Hale, of Boise; two brothers, Hamilton Howry, St. John, Wash., Sam Howry of Gage, Mont.; and three nephews, Alex Howry of Boise, Rollo and Bill Howry of Meridian. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the McBratney funeral home. Rev. John Gresham will officiate at the chapel and I.O.O.F. lodge No. 43 will have charge at the grave. Interment will be in the Morris Hill cemetery.

Funeral service for Clyde L. Hudson, 36, former Frankfort resident and brother of Mrs. Floyd J. Tootle of near Clarksburg, was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Fisher funeral home in Frankfort with the Rev. F. T. McCarty officiating. Burial was made in Greenlawn cemetery. Frankfort American Legion accorded military honors at the grave; George Morgan was acting commander, with L. B. McCarty the chaplain. Robert Hardy commanded the firing squad which consisted also of Harold Hooks, Robert Hines, J. A. Junk, William Flesher, Harold Keller, Eugene Robinson and Robert Butler. Color bearers were Charles Hughes and Dane Acton with David Tootle and Harry Flesher, color guards. Flag-folders were Harry Junk and Ted Ringer while Ralph Junk and Vernon Acton were the grave markers and Reginald Seitz was the bugler. Pall bearers were Harold Orr, George Queen, Wendell Pancake, George Hutton, Forrest Butler, and Ted Ringer. Mr. Hudson, who was a truck driver, died at his home at Washington CH, Thursday, after a month's illness. The son of Floyd and Lulu Davis Hudson, he was born in Henley on Feb 1, 1916. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Mediterranean theater of war. Surviving are the widow, the former Lucille Althouse, the father at New Port News, Va., three daughters, Shirley, Thelma and Phyllis at home; three brothers, Carl Hudson of Dayton; Henry of Peebles; and Harry who is with the army in Korea; and six sisters, Mrs. Tootle of Clarksburg; Mrs. Clarence Lorenz of Peebles; Mrs. Betty Meddock of Otway; Mrs. Dorothy Thatcher of McDermott; Mrs. Ruby Mankin of Winston-Salem, N. C.; and Mrs. Vernal Morris of near Clarksburg.

Born in Athens OH on 22 Dec 1945, she was the daughter of Ivan and Mary K. Hunter Romine. She was a graduate of Athens High School, attended Ohio University and Ohio State University, a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Salina, Kansas, past member of the Beta Sigma Phy Sorority and an inductee into the Volunteer Hall of Fame, Lenexa KS. She was also active in the Central Ohio Heart Chapter, Inc. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Donald L. Hughes; a daughter and son-in-law, Kristine K. and Joseph A. Cavicchiolo, of Canton MI; a son, Kendrick K. Hughes, of Overland Park KS; a granddaughter, Caitlyn K. Cavicchiolo, of Canton MI; and a sister and brother-in-law, Jayne and Robert Shellman, of Albany OH. Services will be Saturday at 1 PM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens, with Reverend Patricia A. Calling hours will not be observed. Mr. Hundley operated an antique shop in Bainbridge after his retirement form the former Federal Reformatory in Chillicothe. Born September 21, 1894, in Virginia, he was the son of John and Virginia Silvers Hundley. He married the former Marguerite Frazer, who did October 15, 1978. Anthony A. "Pete" Huntington, 78, formerly of Chillicothe, passed from this life early Wednesday morning, 14 Jun 2000, in Washington Court House. Born 10 Sep 1921 in Oregonia OH, he was the son of Almond Cox and Bessie Pearl (Deatley) Huntington. Mr. Huntington graduated from Unioto High School in 1938. He served honorably in the Coast Guard-merchant Marine in the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Pacific theaters during World War Two. After 42 years with Mead Corporation, he retired in 1982, having served as Operations Manager. "Pete" was a member of Scioto Lodge #6, F&AM, the American Legion Post 25, Washington Court House, and both the Chillicothe and Washington Court House Country Clubs. Many will remember "Pete" as an avid golfer and outdoorsman. Surviving are his wife, Joyce Ann (Pack) Huntington; daughter, Pamela Bryer, Oregonia, two sons, Anthony A. Huntington Jr., Maple Glen PA, and William Huntington, Waverly; a stepdaughter, Cynthia (Fields) Reynolds, Romeo MI; three stepsons, Allen Griffiths, Gregory Fields and J.R. Fields, all of Washington CH; five grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Jane Hood, Suwanee GA, and Ethel Francis Thornberry, Ashland KY; and a brother, Blanchard Frost, Chillicothe. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Norma Jean Huntington, in 1989, his second wife, Emma Griffiths Huntington, in 1998; and a brother, Clifford B. Huntington. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, 17 Jun 2000, in the Fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home, with Reverend Raymond Welch officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens with military graveside rites by the Ross County Veterans Firing Squad. Dr. S. A. Hutt who died Thursday October 25, 1900. He was born near Frankfort, Ross County, September 30, 1824, therefore he was 76 years, 1 month, 6 days at the time of his death. Mr. Hutt married Keziah Hinson in 1852 and to this union nine children were born; eight of them, six sons and two daughters, survive.

Irvin, who was killed in action during World War II. She is survived by one son and many friends and relatives residing in Chillicothe. Roy Irvin, 79, formerly of Washington C.H., died at 11:50 p.m. Saturday in Fayette County Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient three days. He had been ill since May. Born in Ross County, near Williamsport, Mr. Irvin moved to Washington C.H. in 1937 from Atlanta. He had recently made his home with a daughter in Wilmington. He was a retired truck driver and aide at Orient State Institute, and a member of the House of Prayer. His wife, Susie Watson Irvin, preceded him in death in 1966. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. William (Ruth Ann Wharton) Flint, with whom he made his home; three grandchildren, Frank Wharton, Columbus, Mrs. Sandy Downard, Bloomingburg, and Mrs. Brenda O'Cull, Hillsboro; 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Service was held Wednesday in the Kirkpatrick Funeral home, Washington C.H., with Rev. Arthur George officiating. Burial was in New Holland Cemetery.

YOUTH LEAGUE CO-FOUNDER DEAD AT 63 - Ruby E. Jenkins, 63, of 41 N. McArthur St, co-founder of the Scioto Valley Youth League, died at 11:55 PM Saturday (Jan 31, 1976) in Medical Center Hospital. He had been ill 10 months. His funeral will be at 2 PM Tuesday at the Ware Funeral Home, with the Rev. Earl J. Dingus officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetary. A past president of Scioto Valley Youth League, Jenkins was serving as vice-president and commissioner. He recently was appointed to the city parks advisory board. Jenkins retired in 1971 as a machine operator for the Norfolk and Western Railroad, with 33 years of service. The son of Charles and Parthene Risner Jenkins, he was born Aug. 5, 1912 in Magoffin Co, KY. On Sept 23, 1931, he was married to Gertrude M. Ramey, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. William J. (Mildred) Tackett, Rt 2, Frankfort; Mrs. Dan (Ruby) Dyke, Waverly; and Mrs. Ronny (Linda) Wunsch, Circleville; a son, Lewis, Cleveland; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Dorsa (Ina) Phipps, Rt 5; and Mrs Turman (Rusina) Helton, Rt 3, Waverly, a half-sister, Mrs. Suzanne Montgomery, Marion; and a half-brother, Morton Griffith, Paintsville, KY. Phyllis Marie Johnston, 51, died unexpectedly November 6, in Bedford, Texas, where she resided. A nurse, she was employed at the Irving (Texas) Community Hospital where she was a registered nurse supervisor. Two memorial services will be held in Texas. One was to be today in St. Paulճ United Methodist Church and the other will be Tuesday at the Irving Community Hospital. A native of Chillicothe, she was born October 6, 1930, to Randolph and Irene Geiesheimer Wilson. She was the widow of Neil Johnston, who also was from Chillicothe. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. John (Nancy) Banks and Barbara Johnston, Portland, Ore., and Kay Johnston at home; two sons, Daniel and Scott Johnston, at home; a granddaughter; a sister, Mrs. Esther Leggett, Columbus, and a brother, Michael Wilson, Belton, Texas. Albert N. Jones, 75, farmer, died at his home on Arnold Road, near New Holland, at 11 a.m., last Thursday. He was born in Richmondale, Feb 17, 1873, and had lived in the New Holland community 50 years. Mr. Jones is survived by a son, Charles of Clarksburg, two daughters, Viola, at home, and Mrs. George Palmer of Williamsport; also eight grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Church of Christ in Christian Union at New Holland with the Rev. Arthur George officiating. Burial was made in New Holland cemetery by Kirkpatrick and Sons.

Henrietta Jones was born June 12, 1854, in the state of Virginia, and some time later came to Chillicothe, where she has made her home ever since. For a number of years she has been employed by families and was regarded as a good and industrious woman. She was an ardent church worker and was a member of Quinn Chapel A.M.E. church. She is survived by a husband, Wilson Jones, and by seven children, all of this city. The funeral will be held at the home on East Seventh street, Monday at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Wootson officating. Interment at Grandview. [NB: Sash Gave Away and Mrs. Jones fell to Her Death on the Sidewalk. Accident Was Most Peculiar -Woman Was Cleaning Windows When the Window Broke and She Fell -- Mrs. Henrietta Jones, colored, of 163 E. Seventh Street, fell to her death this morning at about 9 o'clock while washing windows at the Grohe residence above the Grohe grocery store corner of Eastern avenue and Clay street. In falling the woman's head struck the stone step in front of the store, and she suffered a broken neck and a severe scalp wounds, which caused her death in about fifteen minutes after the accident occurred.]

His first wife, Margaret, died Oct. 24, 1965. Mr. Kearney was a past president of Toastmasters 722 of Springfield, and a past member of the International Association of Industrial Editors. He was a member of the board of directors of the New Port Richey Civic Theatre. Survivors include his wife, Helen Dunn Welch Kearney of Holiday FL; a daughter, Mrs. Phyllis Dick, West Chester OH; two sons, J. Roger of Troy and William R. of San Antonio TX; 10 grandchildren; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Richard Blakeley of Springfield; two stepsons, William Welch of Ft. Wayne IN, and Raymond Welch of Urbana; eight step-grandchildren; one sister, Miss C. Margaret Kearney, and one brother, Robert, of Chillicothe. His body will be brought to the Littleton Funeral Home, where friends may call 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Services will be conducted there at 1:30 p.m. Thursday by the Rev. R.R. Garrett, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

JAMES KEARNEY
James Kearney was born four-one-half miles south of New Holland, Nov. 4th, 1810, and died Feb. 5th, 1888, aged 77 yrs 2 mos. 21 days. He was the eighth son of a family of eleven children. His father Thomas Kearney was Irish, born in Moneygall, Kings county, Ireland, April 15th, 1765, and his mother Sarah Baxley was of Dutch descent. They were married in Baltimore, Md., Dec. 11th, 1791. From there he removed to Tenn., and thence to Ohio, locating in the northwestern part of Ross County. Longevity was a characteristic of the Kearneys and James was no exception to the general rule. He was married March 15th, 1851, to Miss Eleanor B. Hays. The fruits of this union were eight children, five boys and three girls, six of whom survive him. In the autumn of 1886 weakened by age and excessive labor he fell and for fifteen months was a great sufferer but he bore his affliction with greatest patience and resignation. During the last months of his life, he waited patiently for the time when the Master should call him hence. On Sunday the 5th of this month, the summons came and quietly without a tremor, and with an expression of heavenly peace, the soul took its flight to the God who gave it. His funeral services were held at the Christian church, New Holland, conducted by the pastor of the M.E. church, assisted by E. B. Lewis. His remains were laid to rest in the beautiful New Holland cemetery. He leaves a wife, four children, and many friends who mourn his departure. He was a man much respected by all. ROBERT KEARNEY
Robert H. Kearney, 65, of North Second Street, Frankfort, will have a memorial service Saturday at 2 p.m. at Frankfort United Presbyterian Church following cremation. The Fisher Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Kearney was born on May 7, 1915 in Chillicothe, the son of Abraham Kearney and Mattie Henness. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Diane Pennock, and two granddaughters, Phoebe and Zoe, all of Columbus. Mr. Kearney was a pianist known locally and nationally. He appeared over much of the United States. He was a former member of the Tommy Dorsey Band and also played for Duke Ellington. Mr. Kearney also accompanied for Lena Horne, Martha Raye and Sammy Davis, Jr. In the late 1940s he had his own radio show in Miami Beach, Fla., called Dancing Keyboard". At the beginning of Mr. Kearney's career, Dean Martin was a vocalist in his band, at Palm Garden, Columbus. Mr. Kearney was an organist at the Fox Farm for several years. Friends may make contributions to the music fund of the Frankfort United Presbyterian Church.

Leona Keaton, 84, of Bainbridge, went to be with the Lord 12:25 p.m. Sunday, January 16, 2000. She was born September 13, 1915, in Greenup, Ky., the daughter of John and Addie Webb Blanton. She married Sturgill Keaton on November 30, 1930, who died August 30, 1990. Surviving are six children, Howard Keaton, Bainbridge, Kenneth (Sylvia) Keaton, South Carolina, Paul (Sandy) Keaton, Illinois, Frances (Tom) George, Hillsboro, Helen (Joe) Smart, Greenfield, and Carolyn (Ed) Walls, Bainbridge; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was predeceased by two grandchildren, three brothers, and one sister. Mrs. Keaton was a member of Pine Top Church. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 19 2000, at the Smith-Moore Funeral Home, Bainbridge, with Rev. Lewis Viar officiating. Burial will be in Bainbridge Cemetery. Frank T. Kendrick, the son of John and Mary Kendrick, was born in Ross Co, Ohio, January 11, 1846, and departed this life March 8, 1922, at the home of his son, Joseph F. Kendrick, 197 South Belle Street, Columbus, Ohio, after an illness of a few days, aged 77 years, one month and 26 days. Mr. Kendrick was a farmer and followed that occupation all his life, until his age prevented his following the same. He was twice married, his first wife being Barbara Albright, and after her death, he married Martha J. Jones, who preceded him in death. To these marriage relations were born 13 children. The surviving are: H.F. Kendrick, 1523 Hayden Avenue, East Cleveland, Ohio; W.H. Kendrick of Sunbury, Ohio; S. J. Kendrick of Mt. Sterling, Ohio; G.F. Nellie Maranda Hoffman Kennedy, 83, of 2902 S. West Armburst Rd., Washington C.H., died Tuesday at 12 p.m. at her residence following a four month illness. Born August 7, 1899, in Ross County, she was the daughter of Nathan Dawson Hoffman and Minnie Bell Taylor Hoffman. The wife of Jahile Kennedy, Mrs. Kennedy's husband preceded her in death on March 18, 1963. A member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, the American Legion Auxiliary, Paul Hughey Unit No. 25, Washington C.H.; the Immanuel Baptist Church, Washington C.H.; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 108, Chillicothe; Fayette County Auxiliary of WWI No. 2291, and former deputy registrar of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles in Ross County. Mrs. Kennedy was a 1916 graduate of Buckskin High School and a 1955 graduate of Wilmington College. She taught school for 49 years in the Wilson, Black, Lyndon, Waugh, South Scioto at Massieville and Buckskin Schools. She retired in 1966. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Elwood (Margaret) Cokonougher of S. West Armburst Rd., Washington C.H.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One sister preceded her in death. Funeral service will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. in Murray's Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Frankfort. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Thursday.

JOSEPH KEPLER
Joseph Kepler, respected farmer living near Bainbridge, died Saturday afternoon at his home, two miles south of Bainbridge, following a seven-day illness. Mr. Kepler was born at Hamilton, Ohio, but had spent the greater part of his life on the farm where he died. He was born Dec. 25, 1832. He is survived by his widow and six children, Leslie Kepler and Cora Smart, of Bainbridge; Mary Penwell, Emmet Kepler and Nancy Jackson, of New Carlisle; and Jacob Kepler, of Bloomingburg. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at 2 p.m., at the residence, with burial at Bainbridge cemetery, Rev. Glen Mills.

IRIS KEPLINGER
Mrs. Iris Mae Storts Keplinger, 56, 358 South st., died Thursday at 4 p.m. in Chillicothe Hospital. Born June 16, 1913 in South Salem, she was a daughter of Ira and Myrtle Cokonougher Storts. On June 3, 1933, she married Virgil Keplinger, who survives. Mrs. Keplinger operated a Certified Public Accountant office at her home, and was also an insurance agent. She organized the Camp Fire Girls here in 1962, and was very active in the organization. She graduated from Zanesville High school in 1930, and was a graduate of Zanesville Business School. She was a member of First Presbyterian church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Charles Wayne Keplinger, of Cincinnati; two daughters, Iris Marie and Tonita Jan Keplinger, both at home; a sister, Mrs. Donald Leach, of Leesburg; two brothers, Ray Storts, of Lyndon, and Ralph Storts, of Zanesville; and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Virgil Dean Keplinger, who died Feb. 12, 1968, a sister and four brothers. Last rites will be read Monday at 2 p.m. in the Murray funeral home with Rev. Clair S. Emerick officiating. Interment will be made in Greenfield Cemetery. Friends will be received at Murray's after 11 a.m., Sunday. John T. Kerrison, age 55, of Hillsboro, died Friday, September 29, 2006 at the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus. He was born April 13, 1951 in Columbus, Ohio the son of the late Richard T. and Nancy E. Borland Kerrison.
He attended the Faith Community Church in Hillsboro. Mr. Kerrison served in the United States Marine Corps from 1970-1974, attaining the rank of Sergeant; and had worked in the Security Department at U.S.E.C. Power in Piketon for more than 30 years.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, JoAnna and P.J. McGaughey of Piketon; three grandchildren, Andrea L., Paul M. and Clarke A. McGaughey; one brother James A. Kerrison of Delaware; one sister and brother-in-law, Diana L. and Jeff Bell of Columbus; and two nieces, Jennifer and Katey Bell both of Columbus. In addition to his parents he is preceded by an infant brother.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at Faith Community Church, 8343 SR 73 N., Hillsboro. Pastor Chuck Tabor will officiate. Cousins Kinney, who survive and reside at Chillicothe. Also surviving are three brothers, Harold "Pete" Kinney Jr, Robbie Dale Kinney and Michael Rene Kinney, all of Chillicothe; three sisters, Talissa Anne Kinney, Chillicothe, Melba Jean Harewood, Hillsboro, and Carol Dianne Kinney, Chillicothe; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. Mr. Kinney was a United States Air Force Veteran, worked as a corrections officer at CCI, and was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he served on the usher board. Pat [Erskine] Kight, 82, of Springfield, died unexpectedly at 3:35 a.m. Friday, December 2, 1988, in Community Hospital. He was born in Jackson, Ohio, September 27, 1906, the son of John and Bertha (Martin) Kight. He was a member of the Church of God in Richmondale, Ohio. He was a 27 year employee of Crowell-Collier Company and a retired employee of the Philadelphia Enquirer. He is survived by his wife, Nora (Hutton) Kight, whom he married June 23, 1928; three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Delores) Rogers of Springfield, Mrs. Thomas (Patty) Rentz of Centerville, Ohio, and Mrs. John (Elaine) Longshaw of Vincentown, New Jersey; two brothers, John Kight of Detroit, Michigan, and Damon Kight of Springfield; one sister, Ruth Hammond of Chillicothe; six grandchildren, Vickie Gordon, Mark Rogers, David Rogers, Pat Beekman, Michele Beekman, Jon Longshaw; two great-grandchildren, Christopher Beekman and Kristen Gordon; numerous nieces and nephews. Harold Buzzy Kight, age 65, of Ray, Ohio, went to be with the Lord at 1:56 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, at his residence. He was born Dec. 17, 1935, in Ray, Ohio, to the late John H. and Dallas M. Clark Kight. On May 4, 1957, he married the former Janice Graves, who survives. Mr. Kight was a retired employee of the Mead Corporation with 41 years of service and attended Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. Harold was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Mack Barbee of Ray and Angela and Larry Hatfield; brother, Homer Kight, of Cincinnati; sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Paul Picklesimer, of Chillicothe; and many nieces and nephews. Harold was predeceased by twin sister, Helen Cartee and sister Mary Ray. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, in the Ware Funeral Home with the Rev. Mrs. Hattie Mettler Kitchen died Thursday at her home in Adelphia. She had been ill two weeks. She was born in Hocking County on September 23, 1874, the daughter of Andrew and Jane Mettler. A member of the Pythian sisters of Adelphia Temple No 563, she is survived by three sons, Nolan, Chillicothe; Barton, Adelphia; and Ray Kitchen of Dayton; two sisters, Mrs. Ann Valentine, Mrs. Margie Cain, both of Columbus; and a brother, Tom Mettler of Laurelville. Mabel Elsie, the only child of Mr. annd Mrs. Charles Mosher passed away at the City Hospital Friday evening at 9:15 o'clock. as the result of an operation preformed a (unknown) ago. With the news of her death, a sorrow has come into the hearts of many Chillicotheans. who have known her since her babyhood, and have always loved her for her happy dispsition, which was reflected by her radiant smile and cheery laughter; for her genuine sincerity femine womanliness. The memory of her life will ever be cherished by those who knew her as one of the best experiences of their lives. Born January 17, 1884, Mabel has passed her entire life in this city, with the exception of a few years. After she had completed the High School course, she went to (unknown) Park Seminary, where she specialized in language and music. Since then, she has always kept up an interest in music, for whch she had a gifted talent, and has always given her Heaven-sent gift for the (unknown) of others in her home and (unknown) where she was ever ready and willing to serve others with the best that was in her. June 20, 1914, she was married to William Korst, who was then stationed at Manila with the regular Army. The good wishes of their many friends for their future were happily realizd, for their home has been the center of their love and devotion. Two sons, Ira, now aged 13, and Charles, aged 8, completed the family circle, now broken. They, with their father, who is now confined to the hopital, are bereft of a devoted mother and wife. To them the consolation of sympathetic hearts is extended. No definite arrangements have been made for the funeral, but will probably be held on Monday.

Surviving are his mother, Luvada Detty Kuhn White and stepfather, Richard White, of Chillicothe. He was married 08 Mar 2000 to Connie Downing Jones, who survives. Mr. Lathouse was a former resident of East Ringgold until six months ago when he moved to the home of his son in Circleville. FRANCIS LAWSON
Francis Alverado Lawson, the son of John and Margaret Everett Lawson, was born in Pike County, July 2, 1884, and departed this life January 2, 1958, at the age of seventy-three years and six months. He was united in marriage to Florence Ivy Gleason on September 4, 1911. To this union were born two daughters, Mrs. Glenna Litterst of Frankfort and Mrs. Georgia Jackson of Piketon, Route 2; and three sons, Walter of Mansfield, Harold of Chillicothe, Route 7, and James at home, all of whom survive. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Allie Wyatt of Indianapolis; a brother, Tom of Cincinnati; and seven grandchildren. His father and mother, a brother, Jim, and a half-sister, Zalia Nellis Bayse, preceded him in death. Frank, as he was known by his many friends and relatives, was a loving husband, a kind father, and a good neighbor. Frank has gone from our midst but those of us who knew him well will always remember his jovial spirit and good nature. He loved people and always was happiest when surrounded by a group of his friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 P.M. Sunday, January 5 at the Howe Company Funeral Home in Piketon with the Rev. John Castle and the Rev. Ernest Grooms officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Waverly. Friends called at the funeral home after 7 P.M. Friday until time for the last rites.

Mrs. Florence Lawson, 75, of Route 2, died at 2:15 a.m. Saturday in Pike County Hospital after an extended illness. Born Aug. 2, 1891, in Pike County, she was the daughter of James F. and Sarah Ellen Swiger Gleason. In 1912, she was married to Frank A. Lawson, who died Jan. 2, 1958. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Glenora Litterst of Frankfort and Mrs. Georgia Jackson of Route 2; three sons, Walter of Mansfield, Harold of Waverly Route 2, and James of Route 2; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Francis Silcott of Waverly, Rte. 2. Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Howe Co. Funeral Home here. The Rev. John Castle and the Rev. Ernest Grooms will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Waverly. Seymour M. Layton, died at his home near Yellowbud recently. He had been ill two years of tuberculosis. The deceased was born at Grange Hall, Pickaway Co., Nov. 1, 1869, and was the son of William and Eleanor M. Tootle Layton. He married Miss Bessie Wilson in Chillicothe, October 17, 1903. Mrs. Layton and three children, Marjorie E., Thelma M., and Donald S., survive. The funeral services were held at Spring Bank, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. E. D. Paulin officiating.

Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Everett (Ruth) Easterday of 211 Columbia St., Mrs. Carl (Cora) Knab of 426 Mill St., Mrs. Harold (Dorothy) Straughan of Silver Springs, MD, Mrs Wilford (Mildred) Dietz of Adelphia, MD, and Mrs. Roger (Pauline) Frye of Pinehurst, NC, one son, the Rev. Clarence Leach of Philo, 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Walter (Margaret) Drummond of Waverly, Mrs. Lucille Jaquess of Silver Springs, MD, and Mrs. Minnie Maughmer of Washington Court House. Thomas J. Leach, 80, of Sulphur Lick Road, died 3:10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, in the Chillicothe Veterans Affairs Medical Center, following an extended illness. He was born May 11, 1921, in Ross County, to the late Thomas J. and Nora Lewis Leach. He was married Nov. 9, 1946, to Marjorie L. Cottrill, who survives, along with son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Joanne Leach, with whom they live, and daughter and son-in-law Sally and Gerald Rinehart, of Greenfield, Ohio; step-daughter and step son-in-law, Nancy and Robert Shultz, of Chillicothe; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Nora Alice Ott, of Chillicothe, sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Tom Boggs, of Sun City, Az.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters. Thomas, a retired truck driver, served in the Army during WWII. He was a life member of VFW Post 108, Amvets Post 4, and American Legion Post 62. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, in the Ware Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, where gravesite rites will be conducted by the Ross County Veterans Firing Squad. Glenn Leasure, 67, of Chillicothe, was reunited on Aug. 27, 2002, with his lord and loved ones before him. He was born Feb. 25, 1935, to Wesley and Thelma Thomas Leasure. On Oct. 8, 1964, he married Alice I. Cottrell, who survives. William A. Lechner, 79, of Chillicothe, died 4: 12 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2000, in the Ohio State University Hospitals, Columbus. He was born March 1, 1921 in Chillicothe, to the late Albert F. and Nellie F. Thomas Lechner. Surviving are a sister, Dorothy E. Lechner, Chillicothe, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Eugene and Robert Lechner and sisters Helen Irwin, Betty Lindsay and Patricia Elliott. Bill served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and had retired from Chilpacc, where he had worked for 24 years. He was a member of U.P.I.U. Local 988. Private graveside services will be held in Greenlawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family .under the direction of the Ware funeral Home. There will be no calling hours. Charles Raymond Lee, 67, of 7885 Denver Road, Waverly, died 3:58 p.m. Oct. 12 at his residence. He was a retired employee of the Chillicothe Veterans Administration Hospital. He was born June 30, 1920, in Ross County to John I. and Ola M. White Lee. He was married Jan. 27, 1948 to Lera Ruth Phillips, who survives. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Foster and Emmitt; and a sister Pearl. Mr. Lee was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Howard D. Leeth, 77, of Frankfort, died Sunday, March 8, 1998, at Fayette Memorial Hospital. Born Jan. 18, 1921, in Pike County, he was the son of Harry Leeth and Elsie Ann (Herman) Leeth. Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Roger and Michele Leeth and Randall Leeth, both of Frankfort; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Alice and Jim Wilson of Washington C.H., Judy and Stephen Burgess of Washington, Mo., and Virginia Braden of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Gwen Anna Brady, Joseph Johnathon-Ray Glover, Jason Anthony Wingo, Sarah Jane Burgess, Christopher Randall Leeth, Debbie Miller and Laury Lucas; and three great-grandchildren, Anna Beth Brady, Victoria Miller and Zachary Lucas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Louise Leeth, on Nov. 4, 1997; and two brothers, Ernest and Raymond Dean. A member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, he retired from Armco Steel after 28 years. Johnie Lemaster, 73, of Frankfort, died Sunday, March 29, 1998, at Edgewood Manor, Greenfield, following an extended illness. Born Sept. 27, 1924, in Louisa, Ky., he was the son of the late Elliott and Mary Ellen (Johnson) Lemaster. He worked as a steeplejack. An U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served under General Patton in battles at Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes and Rhineland. For his service, he received many decorations and citations. He attended Frankfort High School until joining the Army. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He is survived by daughters, Linda K. Heleriggle of East Liberty and Connie McCoy of Chillicothe; five grandchildren; sister, Maudie Brown of Frankfort; brother, Merdia and Loretta Lemaster of Frankfort; special friend, Gayle L. Longlott of Richmondale; special sister-in-law, Emmie Lemaster; and numerous neices and nephews including two special nephews, Franks and his wife, Diana, and David and Lisa Lemaster. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie; six brothers, Noah, Luther, Spence, Roscoe, Isaac and Leslie; and three sisters, Martha Keaton, Lulie Wheeler and Myrtle Chapman. The sun has set on the life of Ruth Eloise Lemaster, who departed this world for her Heavenly home Wednesday morning, Jan. 13, 1999, in Adena Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was born Feb. 4, 1936, in Chillicothe, to Fred and Marjorie Stover Kennison. She is survived by her loving husband, John of Frankfort, whom she married July 2, 1988; stepdaughters, Patti and her husband, Kevin Vernier, Paula Lawrence and Pam Odel, all of Chillicothe; sisters, Ida Mae Harper, Maxine and her husband, Charles Haskins and Lorraine and her husband, Carl Arledge, all of Chillicothe; brothers, Fred and his wife, Rita Kennison, Columbia, Tenn. and Denver and his wife, Miriam Kennison, Waverly, and a number of step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Anne Garrison and Pat Seymour. Ruth was an employee of U.S. Shoe Corporation for 34 years and was a member of the Jefferson Ave. Church of Christ in Christian Union.

Mrs. Ida M. Lesher, 81, ill for the last two years, died at her home in Adelphi at 9 am Wednesday. She was born near Adelphi, Oct. 2, 1863, the daughter of the late Thomas and Susan Karshner Patterson. She is survived by her husband, Samuel H. Lesher, with whom she celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Oct. 31, 1939. Other survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Hoover of Columbus; a son, Herbert Lesher of Adelphi; three brothers, Samuel and Miley Patterson, of Hallsville and Addison of Columbus; four grandchildren, Carl E. Lesher of Akron, Marymae Feidel of Biloxi, Richard L. Hoover in service in Italy and Robert J. Hoover in service in India. Mrs. Lesher was a member of the Adelphi Methodist church and the Woman's Society of Christian Service of that church and the Order of Eastern Star, Evergreen chapter No. 169, Adelphi. Service will be conducted at the Adelphi Methodist Church, at 3 pm (EST) Friday, with the Rev. I. C. Wright officiating. LYDIA LIGHTLE
Lydia Knight was born Feb. 14, 1804 and died Oct. 4, 1900, aged 96 years, 7 months and 20 days. She was born in Ross County Ohio and lived there until about twenty two years ago. When she came with her daughter to Hardin County Ohio. In 1832 she was united in marriage to Sampson Hampton. By this union there was one son who has lived in the west the most of his life. Mr. Hampton only lived a short time. In about 1835 she was united in marriage to George Lytle. By this union there were four sons and one daughter. All of whom are still living. The youngest son being now 48 years of age. In 1818 she was converted and joined the Methodist church. After her marriage to Mr. Lytle, they built a church on their farm. One of the first churches built in Ross County. Mrs. Lytle was a great worker in the church and lived a consistent Christian to the time of her death. About twenty two years ago, Mr. Lytle died. Since which date Mrs. Lytle has lived with her daughter, Mrs. Mills. Mrs. Lytle's mind was clear until the end.

Harold Lininger, 42, died June 1, 1940 at White Cross Hospital. Born in New Holland, s/o the late John and Flora Posey Lininger. Surviving are a widow, Elise, and a daughter, Edna May. Burial in New Holland.

The funeral of Mrs. Mary E. (Stanhope) Lister will be held from her rooms in the Clinton Flats at ten o'clock Friday morning, Dr. D.D. Moore, of South Salem, officiating. The internment will be in Brown's Chapel Cemetery.

Mrs. JOHN LITTER
Mrs. John Litter, Jr., died at 6 o'clock last Friday morning at her late home on South Mulberry Street, the cause of her death being consumption. Her age was 26 years. The funeral took place Saturday afternoon, Rev. Rudisill, pastor of Trinity M. E. Church, officiating. The remains were interned at Greenlawn.

Mrs. L. A. Lloyd, widow of former resident Dr. J. Q. Lloyd, died in St. Petersburg Fla. Friday morning. Service will be held there Monday. Dr. Lloyd was the brother of Mrs. Carl Brehmer, Mrs. C. W. Kelly and Harry U. Lloyd, all of Chillicothe.

GOLDIE LOWE
Mrs. Goldie M. Lowe, 80, Vine Street, died at 3:05 a.m. Feb. 6, 1988, in Medical Center Hospital following an extended ilness. She was born Nov. 20, 1907, in Wetzel County WV, to Charles and Sarah Lemasters Lancaster, On Aug. 29, 1924, she married Jerry Lowe, who died Dec. 28, 1960. Surviving are two daughter, Mrs. John (Bonnie) Nelson; Columbus, and Mrs. Lloyd (Mamie) Caldwell, Chillicothe; a son, Clarence Lowe, Chillicothe; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mabel Bobo, Chillicothe. She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Shirley Ann; three sons, James, William and Douglas Lowe; two sisters, Martha Hunt and Mamie Sheets; three brothers, Harold, William and Herbert Lancaster; and three grandchildren. Funeral Service will be 1:00 p. m. Tuesday in the Ware Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Norman officiaating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Mark A. Lowe, 32, of Sycamore Street, died early Friday afternoon as a result of an automobile accident on Blacksmith Hill Road. He was born August 25, 1965, in Chillicothe, to Clarence and Diana Diebert Lowe, who survive and live in Chillicothe. He was married August 2, 1985, to Angie M. Wolford, who survives, along with children, Jamie, Adam, and Brittany Lowe, all at home; sister and brother-in-law Linda and Danny Patterson, of Frankfort; brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Cheryl Lowe of Chillicothe; maternal grandparents, Katherine Edwards of Circleville, and Robert and his wife, Maggie Diebert, of Toledo; mother-in-law, Irene Wolford; father-in-law, Edgar and his wife, Mary Wolford, all of Chillicothe; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Mark had been employed at Frisch's Family Restaurant. Funeral services will be held 1 p. m. Tuesday in the Ware Funeral Home, with Rev. Mark Clendaniel officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at Ware's from 6-8 p. m. Monday (today).

ALICE LOWRY
Alice K. Lowry, 69, of Liberty Hill Road, died 12:25 pm Wednesday, October 16, 1996, in the Adena Regional Medical Center, following an extended illness. She was born December 7, 1926, in Henry County, Ky., to Andy Thomas and Rosa Hicks West. She was married December 20, 1945, to Sigle Lowry Jr., who died December 27, 1994. Surviving are daughter, Carolyn Barnes, from Columbus; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Steve Dennewitz, with whom she lived; sons, Andy A. and Lewis G. Lowry; son and daughter-in-law, John R. and Ruth Lowry, all of Chillicothe; 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; brother, Elihu West, of Lancaster, Ky.; brothers and sisers-in-law, Thomas and Ruth West, of Utica, Mich. and Robert and Pat West, of Jacksonville, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preedeceased by a sister and four brothers. Funeral services will be held 1:30 pm Saturday in the Ware Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Friends may call at 6-8 pm at Ware's Friday.

Clarence D. (Shorty) Lump, 57, an auto mechanic and welder of Rt. 3, Waverly, died at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday, April 18 [1967] in Pike County Hospital after an illness of two days. A native of Ross County, he was born Oct. 11, 1909, a son of George and Lula (Bland) Lump. His parents, two brothers and one sister preceded him in death. On Feb. 7, 1934, he married the former Hazel Cuckler, who survives at home. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Donna Brown, Rt. 1, Waverly, and Mrs. Linda Adams, of Rt. 3 Waverly; three grandsons and one granddaughter; three brothers, Harold Lump of Rt. 5, Chillicothe, Elmer Lump of 606 E. Main St., Chillicothe, and Ray Lump of Anaheim, Calif.; and four sisters, Mrs. Mabel Shay of Rt. 5, Chillicothe, Mrs. Goldie Moody and Mrs. Opal Gire, both of Columbus, and Mrs. Thelma Stulley of Rt. 3, Waverly. Mr. Lump was a member of the Alma Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the A. H. Boyer Funeral Home with Rev. Clyde Fields officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after l2 o'clock noon Thursday.

MARVENE LYKINS
Marvene Lykins, 71, Circleville, died Jan 6, 1992, at Berger Hospital. Born Dec. 26, 1920, in Pickaway County, she was the daughter of Russell and Zella Estell Newhouse. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jud Dresbach; her parents; and one brother, Burnell Newhouse. She is survived by her husband, Farrell Lykins, and one nephew, Dwight Newhouse of Columbus. She was a registered nurse at Ross County Medical Center for 14 years. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville. Burial will be at Forest Cemetery. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

LYDIA LYTLE
Lydia Knight Lytle was born Feb. 14, 1804 and died Oct. 4, 1900, aged 96 years, 7 months and 20 days. She was born in Ross County Ohio and lived there until about twenty two years ago, when she came with her daughter to Hardin County Ohio. In 1832 she was united in marriage to Sampson Hampton. By this union there was one son who has lived in the west the most of his life. Mr. Hampton only lived a short time. In about 1835 she was united in marriage to George Lytle. By this union there were four sons and one daughter, all of whom are still living, the youngest son being now 48 years of age. In 1818 she was converted and joined the Methodist church.
