ARTHUR DAVIS

Arthur Davis died from Pneumonia Wednesday morning at his home on Eleventh Street.He was born July 5, 1870. His parents and two sons and three sisters survive him. The burial was at 10 o`clock Friday morning. [NB: He was also survived by a third son, Paul Norman Davis. The two sons mentioned in obit were Arthur and Cecil Andrew Davis.]

CARL DAVIS

Carl E. Davis, 69, Chillicothe, passed from this life Wednesday morning, 07 Jun 2000, at his residence following an extended illness. He was born 03 Jun 1931 in Chillicothe, the son of Frank and Eileen Saunders Davis Sr. On 21 Jul 1956, he married Virginia M. Saunders, who survives. Also surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Karla K. and John Reeves, and Cheryl and Larry Lewis, Chillicothe; sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Julia Davis, Frankfort, Steve and Mary Jane Davis, Fort Walton Beach FL, and Scott and Betty Davis, Chillicothe; ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Larry McRoberts; a brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Susie Shetterly, all of Chillicothe; and several nieces and nephews. His stepmother, Flo Davis; a daughter, Diane Davis; sisters, Sue and Margaret; and brothers, Frank Jr. and John, preceded him in death. Mr. Davis was retired from Container Corporation of America. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict and was a member of American Legion Post 757. The family will receive friends at the Fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home on Saturday from 6-9 p.m. Private interment service will be held at the discretion of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

CHARLES DAVIS

Charles A. Davis, Sr. well known Chillicothe citizen, died at home of his daughter, Mrs. Walter (Emma Davis) Burt at 311 Park Street at 1:40 A.M. Thursday of the infirmities of age. The deceased was born in Hamilton County, Indiana in 1834 and was in his 88th year. He is survived by a wife and five children. Charles A. Davis , Jr of this city, George B. Davis of Washington CourtHouse, Ohio, Mrs. Walter (Emma) Burtand, Mrs. Lydia Young of this city. and Mrs. I.B. McMullen of Columbus. The funeral will be held from the Church of Christ in Christian Union, north High Street. Rev. E.A. Keaton , pastor, Saturday at 2 P.M. Interment in Greenlawn Cemetery.

CHARLES DAVIS

Death came to Charles A. Davis, Jr. of 311 Park Street at the Chillicothe Hospital at 8:30 o`clock Friday evening, following an illness of two months with complications. Mr. Davis, 72, was born in Pike County, Ohio, the son of Charles and Margaret Brewer Davis. His wife Martha McMullen preceded him in death. Two daughters survive, Mrs. Michael (Mitchell) Hutchinson, Massieville, and Mrs. Hazel Mason of Xenia, Ohio; also a brother George B. Davis of Washington CourtHouse, and the following sisters, Mrs. Isaac McMullen of Columbus, Mrs. Lina Young and Mrs. Walter Burt of this city. The Rev, E.A. Keaton will officate at the funeral Monday afternoon at 2 o`clock from Wares Chapel. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery . Friends may view the body at Wares anytime.

CHARLOTTE DAVIS

Mrs. Charlotte Mae Davis, 90, formerly of 60 N. Poplar St., died at 12:10 pm Friday in the Deiber Nursing Home following a brief illness. Service will be held at 2 pm Monday at the Ware Funeral Home, with the Rev. Raymond Welch officiating. Burial will follow in Brown's Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 pm Sunday at the funeral home Mrs. Davis was born January 3, 1882, in Ross County, to Thomas N and Lucy (Maddux) Brown. On January 3, 1900, she married Edward W. Davis, who died March 30, 1950 [sic]. Surviving are five sons, Walter E and Ward H, both of Columbus; Lloyd G, Circleville; Merle L and Otho, both of Chillicothe; four daughters, Mrs. Bernice Malone, Mrs. Edwin (Garnett) Vollmar and Mrs. Donald (Norma) Anderson, all of Chillicothe; and Mrs. James (Ruth) Sampson of Fairborn; 22 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Mrs. Albert (Virgie) Reno; one brother, Clint; and three sisters, Mrs. Maxine Minor, Mrs. Ora Thomas, and Mrs. Abby Burlile. Mrs. Davis was a member of Brown's Chapel Church.

EDWARD DAVIS

Edward W. Davis, 80, retired farmer of 60 Poplar Street, died at 10:20 am Friday at his residence, following an illness of six months. A native of Pike county, he was born March 17, 1871, the son of Joeab and Martha (Woods) Davis, and was married January 3, 1900, to Charlotte "Lottie" Brown, who survives. He is also survived by 11 children, five sons, Walter of Lockbourne, Ward of Columbus, Lloyd of Circleville, Merle and Oather of Chillicothe; six daughters, Mrs. Frank Malone, Mrs. Donald Anderson, and Mrs. Albert Reno of Chillicothe, Mrs. Edward Palmer of Route 1, Mrs. James Sampson of South Charleston, and Mrs Eva Tipton of Santa Maria, Calif. [a daughter from a former marriage]; 19 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Service will be conducted at 2 pm Sunday in Brown's Chapel, with burial in the adjoining cemetery. The Rev. Thomas W. Taylor of Clarksburg will officiate. Friends may call at the Ware Funeral Home after 6 pm Saturday.

Service for Edward W. Davis, 80, retired farmer, of 60 Poplar Street, was held at 2 pm Sunday from Brown's Chapel with the Rev. Thomas William Taylor of Clarksburg officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery under the direction of the Ware Funeral home. Pallbearers were Ralph Metzger, Tobias Maul, Orin Ewing, Chester Houghland, Charles Brown, and William Taylor. The pianist was Miss Ollie Ater. Members of a male quartet which sang were Elden Hurst, Pryor Timmons, Coyt Cleary and Hoyt Graham.

EVELYN DAVIS

Evelyn Maxine Davis, 57, of Cynthiana, died at 8:40 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at her residence. She was born Nov. 14, 1943 in Pike County, the daughter of Horward and Elma Knisley Elliott. She is survived by Charlie Davis, her husband of 43 years; her mother, Elma Elliott; six children and their spouses, William Howard and Brigette Davis, Stephen Ray and Lora Davis, Charles Edward and Tracy Davis, all of Bainbridge, Vicki Lynn and Gary Minzler, of Hillsboro, Richard Lee Davis, of Bainbridge, and Christy Anne Rhoades, of Hillsboro; eight grandchildren, Jeremy, Justin, Tara, Jane, Megan, Dylan, Matt, Bradley and Kiley; five brothers, Paul, Wilson, Ralph, Melvin and Darrell Elliott, all of Bainbridge; several nieces and nephews; and mother-in-law, Catherine Davis. She was predeceased by her father, Howard Elliott, and sister, Charlene Elliott. She was past Worthy Matron of Leighton OES Chapter 521 of Sinking Springs and member of the Hillsboro OES Chapter 441. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2001 at the Smith-Moore Funeral Home, Bainbridge with the Rev. Homer Swearingen officiating. Burial in Bainbridge Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, family requests donation be given to the Adena Hospice in Chillicothe.

LESLIE DAVIS

A twofold bereavement has come to the home of Arthur Davis of Mosher Avenue. His 11 year old son Carl Edward Davis was buried Monday morning at 10 o`clock and his wife died a few hours previous to the burial. The lad`s mother sucumbed to to the same disease that had stricken the boy and after a brief illness both died from pneumonia. Mrs. Leslie May (Vititoe) Davis has left her husband and two small sons to mourn her death. The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday morning at 10 o`clock with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery. [NB: Arthur, Leslie and son Carl Edward Davis died from Spanish Influzena which started locally at Camp Sherman on Route 104 north of Chillicothe. All three were buried at Greenlawn Cemetery and headstone lists surviving sons except Paul Norman Davis who was adopted after death of his parents. He was approximately 1 year old when Leslie died.]

MILDRED DAVIS

Mildred Lucille Davis, 84 of Chillicothe, Ohio, passed away at 7:37 p.m. on April 19, 2000, at her home, 365 East Second Street, after a long battle with cancer. Mildred was born in Springfield, Clark County, Ohio, on February 24, 1916, to the late Martin Luther and Daisy Anna Hamilton Snyder. She was married in Texas City, Texas, to Paul Norman Davis, who preceded her in death on November 12, 1984. Surviving are her sons, Glenn W. Renkel, of Zanesville, Ohio, from a previous marriage to Leonard Renkel; and James W. Davis and his wife, Ina Marie (Cantrell), of Chillicothe; daughters, Pauline Leslie Davis of Chillicothe, Linda L. (Davis) Bowles and son-in-law Ernest C. Bowles of Chillicothe; and grandchildren James Michael and wife, JoLynn (Cathel) Davis, of Harrisburg, Ohio, Stacey Lynn (Davis) and husband, Floyd T. Walker, of Columbus, Angie (Davis) Patrick and husband, Scott Patrick, of Kingston, Ohio, Jeff Davis and wife, Patsy (Dyer) Black Davis, Patty (Renkel) Shackleford of Chillicothe, Carol (Renkel) Detty, Ernest C. Bowles Jr. of California, Trisha Bowles of Columbus, Ohio, Timothy M. Bowles of Louisiana and wife, Susan (Slagle). Great-grandchildren include Sarah M. and Anthony (AJ) Davis of Harrisburg, Ohio; Dane, Emily and Nathan Patrick of Kingston; Raymond and Christopher Detty of Chillicothe; Mandy and Joseph Shackleford of Chillicothe; and Abby and Christopher Black and Amanda (Black) and her husband, Mark Burns, of Bolivar, Tennessee. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Robert May Sr., Lynn Hamilton, Walter Snyder, Frankie May; and sister, Ruth (Snyder) Kaltenbach. Mildred had been a Stanley Home Products dealer in Chillicothe for many years.

PAUL DAVIS

Paul Norman Davis, 67, of 365 East Second Street, died 9:58 p.m. November 12, 1984, in Chillicothe Veterans Administration Medical Center after an extended illness. Paul was born September 16, 1917 in Ross County to Arthur and Leslie (Vititoe) Davis. Paul was married on September 18, 1942 in Texas City, Texas, to Mildred Lucille Snyder, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Pauline L. Davis, at home; Mrs. Ernest (Linda) Bowles, of Chillicothe; a son, James W. Davis (wife Ina M. [Cantrell]) of Chillicothe; a stepson, Glenn W. Renkel, of Zanesville, Ohio; grandchildren, Ernest, Timothy and Trisha Bowles; James Michael Davis (wife JoLynn [Cathel]), of Harrisburg, Ohio; Stacey, Angie and Jeff Davis, of Chillicothe; Patty Renkel and Carol Detty, of Chillicothe; great-grandchildren Loranda (Mandy) Shackleford, Raymond and Christopher Detty, of Chillicothe; several nieces and nephews. Brothers Carl and Cecil Andrew Davis predeceased Paul. Paul retired in 1973 from Chilpaco with 30 years of service. Paul was a World War II Army veteran who served with the Ohio National Guard, Company H, 166th Infantry. Paul was a charter member of Papermakers Union Local 988. Following cremation, interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Chillicothe.

ROBERT DAVIS

Robert E. Davis, 75, formerly of Greenfield, died at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 1996, at Court House manor. Davis was born Jan. 15, 1921, in Ross County, the son of Walter and Faye (Hart) Davis. He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Walter and Deborah Davis of Indiana; Robert and Shirley Davis of Washington C.H. and John and Lisa Davis of Sedalia; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Keith Flemming of Cincinnati, and Patricia and Albert Penwell of Greenfield; 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter; and one brother and sister-in-law, James and Bonnie Davis, of South Salem. Davis is preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Jane Mootispaw Davis, on Nov. 16, 1971 and one infant brother. He is a former member of the Greenfield Eagles Lodge and a WWII US Air Force veteran. He was a mill worker and a 25-year retired employee of Mead Corp., Chillicothe. The funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Murray Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert K. Blaine officiating. Burial will be in Greenfield Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday after 4 p.m.
