DOTT COKONOUGHER
Dott Mae Cokonougher, age 78, of 340 Mirabeau St., Greenfield, Ohio, died Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at her residence. She was born May 4, 1920, in Ross County, Ohio, to Joseph and Alice Virginia Storts Nevin. Mrs. Cokonougher was a 1938 graduate of Bainbridge High School, a homemaker and a member of the East Monroe United Methodist Church for 45 years. She taught Sunday School for 25 years. Mrs. Cokonougher was preceded in death by her husband, Jay A. Cokonougher, on March 19, 1996; sons James J. on Dec. 12, 1988, John on Aug. 9, 1987, and Ronald on Sept. 16, 1944; grandson Tyler Orner on July 17, 1974; brothers Edward (Hap) Nevin and Everett (Fritz) Nevin; and by sisters Marjorie Chambliss and Louise Riley. She is survived by son Larry D. (Jo) Cokonougher of Greenfield; daughters Carol A. (Dennis) Orner of Hamilton, Ohio, and Susan (Rod) Goddard Jr. and Joellen Cokonougher, both of Greenfield; daughter-in-law Sonnie (Wendell) George of Greenfield, sister Jessie M. Hinshaw of Piketon, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 16 at the Murray Funeral Home in Greenfield. The Rev. Terry Washburn will preside and burial will follow in the South Salem Cemetery. Visiting hours at the funeral home are scheduled for 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15. [NB: Daughter Karen "Jean" (Wyla) Goddard, Jr. was not listed, and daughter Susan should be listed as Susan (Rod) Hiestand, not Goddard.]

FOREST COKONOUGHER
Forrest Milton (Butch) Cokonougher, 74, of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., passed away June 19, 2000, in Ft. Walton Beach. He was born April 15, 1926, in Ross County, Ohio, to the late William S. and Emma Forsythe Cokonougher. On March 11, 1957, he married the former Ruth A. Overly, who survives. Also surviving are sons, David (Peggy) Cokonougher, Greenfield, Ohio, Randy (Susan) Overly, Crestview, Fla., Terry (Martha) Cokonougher, Elberta, Ala., Brian (Tami) Cokonougher, Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; daughter, Nancy Harewood, Greenfield, Ohio; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Donald Hess, Clarksburg, Ohio. He was predeceased by one sister, Ethel Brookover, South Salem, Ohio; and two brothers, Harry Cokonougher, Athens, Ohio, and Wayne Cokonougher, Battle Creek, Mich. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and was employed in 1952 by the Chillicothe Federal Reformatory, and transferred after its closure to the Eglin Federal Prison Facility at Ft. Walton Beach, where he retired in 1980 after 28 years of service. In 1981, he was employed by a Government contractor as a security officer in military test facilities, from which he retired in 1999. Funeral services were held June 23, 2000, at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, and burial followed at Beal Memorial Cemetery, Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.

HANNAH COKONOUGHER
Mrs. Hannah Mazie Cokonougher, 88, of 647 McKell Ave., Greenfield, died at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Margaret Clark-Oakfield Convalescent Center, Washington Court House. Service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Murray Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Heininger officiating. Burial will follow in South Salem Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Cokonougher was born Dec. 10, 1883, in Ross County to John and Mary Thomas Hurless. She was married to Adiston E. Cokonougher, who died May 31, 1933. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. John (Hazel) Hollar, Route 1, Lyndon, Mrs. Mark (Helen) Smith, Greenfield, Mrs. Stanley (Audria) Fordyce, Brookville, Fla., and Mrs. Kenneth (Evelyn) Staats, Greenfield; one son, Harold E., South Dennis, Mass.; 23 grandchildren ; 40 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Orville Hurless, Lattaville; and two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Forsythe, Greenfield, and Mrs. Martha Shoemaker, Bourneville. She was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters. Mrs. Cokonougher was a member of the Greenfield First United Church.

HARVEY COKONOUGHER
Harvey J. Cokonougher, 71, Frankfort Rt. 2, a retired farmer, died in his residence at 3:45 pm, Saturday. Born in Paulding county, Ohio June 23, 1896, he was a son of Zachary and Mary Frost [sic; Wisecup] Cokonougher. He was married on Feb. 14, 1917 to Dolla Smith, who survives. He also leaves two sons and four daughters: Jay and Herman Cokonougher, of Greenfield, Mrs. Robert (Eva) Lyle, of Oxford, O., Mrs. Dean (Ethel) Haines, of Leesburg, Mrs. William (Genevieve) Van Allen, of Columbus, and Mrs. Forrest (Isabel) Post, of Greenfield; 24 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. John (Anna) Schmidt, of South Salem. He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Jane, and five sisters and a brother. He was a member of the United Methodist church. Service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, in the Murray funeral home. Burial will be made in South Salem cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.

HERBERT COKONOUGHER
Herbert M. Cokonougher, 43, died at noon Monday in his residence at Lyndon Rt. 1. He was born April 25, 1924, in Ross County, a son of John and Amelia Miller Cokonougher. On March 12, 1952, he married the former Christine Shepard, who survives. He also leaves a son, Daniel, of Phoenix, Ariz.; two brothers, John, Jr., Chillicothe Rt. 3, and Howard W., Lyndon Rt. 1, and a sister, Mrs. Geraldine Barnhart, of Greenfield. A brother preceded him in death. He was a member of South Salem Methodist church. Service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Murray funeral home. Rev. James Brown will officiate, with burial in South Salem cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m., Wednesday.

HERMAN COKONOUGHER
Herman F. 'Tom' Cokonougher, 81, of Frankfort, died at 2:46 a.m. Saturday, March 31, 2001, in Adena Regional Medical Center. He was born Dec. 12, 1919 in South Salem, Ohio, to Harvey and Dollie Smith Cokonougher. His wife is the former Bernice Williams Dreitzler. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Fisher-Anderson-Ebright Funeral Home, Frankfort, with burial in South Salem Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday, 6-8 p.m."

Herman F. 'Tom' Cokonougher, 81, of Frankfort, died unexpectedly at 2:46 a.m. Saturday, March 31, 2001, at Adena Regional Medical Center. He was married to the former Bernice Williams Dreitzler on March 18, 1973, who survives. He was born Dec. 12, 1919 in South Salem, the son of the late Harvey and Dollie Smith Cokonougher. He was a truck driver most of his life and was known locally as the 'Buckeye Man' because of his habit of collecting and giving them to everyone. He was a US Army veteran having fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts. He was a member of the Joseph Ellsworth White Post 483 American Legion. He is also survived by three stepsons, Jim (Debbie) Dreitzler of Frankfort, Bob (Sue) Dreitzler of Chillicothe, John (Brenda) Dreitzler of Frankfort; two stepdaughters, Jenny Dreitzler of Frankfort and Judi Ebin of Minnesota; 17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and three sisters, Eva Lyle of Alabama; Genevieve Van Allen of Gahanna, Ohio, and Ethel Mae Haines of Greenfield. He was preceded in death by one brother, Jay Cokonougher, and a sister, Isabel Post. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Fisher-Anderson-Ebright Funeral Home in Frankfort with Pastor Tim Benkert officiating. Burial will be held at South Salem Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the Frankfort American Legion. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

HOWARD COKONOUGHER
Howard William (Bill) Cokonougher, 62, of 2255 Cliff Run Road, Bainbridge, died at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Cokonougher was born Aug. 14, 1922, in Ross County to John Henry and Amelia Irene Miller Cokonougher. He was a farmer and a former employee of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, and a veteran of World War II, U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by two brothers. Surviving is his wife, the former Viola Mae Hester, whom he married Oct. 1, 1946; two sons, Ralph William Cokonougher, of New Holland, and Clifford Eugene Cokonougher, of Greenfield; two daughters, Mrs. Judy Louise (Ronald) Brill and Mrs. Shirley Ann (Robert) Davis, both of Washington C.H.; 12 grandchildren and six step-grandchildren; one brother, John Henry Cokonougher Jr. of Chillicothe, and [sister] Mrs. Geraldine J. (Melvin) Barnhart, of Greenfield. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Murray Funeral Home, Greenfield, with Danny Dodds, pastor of the Greenfield Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in the South Salem Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday after 4 p.m.

JAY COKONOUGHER
Jay A. Cokonougher, 78, of 340 Mirabeau St., Greenfield, died in University Hospital, Columbus, on Tuesday, March 19, 1996. He was born on March 12, 1918 in Ross County to Harvey J. and Dolla M. Smith Cokonougher. Mr. Cokonougher was a retired steel worker at Armco and a farmer. He was preceded in death by three sons, James J., on Dec. 12, 1988, John on Aug. 9, 1987 and Ronald Cokonougher on Sept. 16, 1944, and a sister, Mary Jane Cokonougher, in 1924. He is survived by his wife, Dott M. Nevin Cokonougher, whom he married Oct. 19, 1940; son, Larry D. Cokonougher of Greenfield; daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Carol A.) Orner of Coppell, Texas, Mrs. Rod (Susan) Hiestand of Mason, Ohio, Mrs. Wyla (Jean) Goddard Jr., of Greenfield and Joellen Cokonougher of Greenfield; sisters Eva L. Lyle of Birmingham, Ala., Mrs. Dean (Ethel Mae) Haines of East Monroe, Ohio, Mrs. William (Genevieve) Van Allen of Columbus and Mrs. Forrest (Isabelle) Post of Greenfield, and a brother, Herman F. "Tom" Cokonougher of Frankfort. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 1996 in Murray Funeral Home, Greenfield, with the Rev. John H. Cokonougher Jr., 75, of 4811 Mirage Avenue, Holiday, Florida, died at 10:01 p.m. Monday, August 29, 1994, at his residence. He was born June 29, 1919, in Ross County to John Henry and Amelia Irene Miller Cokonougher. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a millwright at Mead Corporation for 30 years. He was a member of the South Salem United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Pauline Anders Cokonougher, whom he married November 1, 1945; two sons, Glen M. Cokonougher of Andover, New Jersey, and Steven E. Cokonougher of Westerville, Ohio; six grandchildren, Mrs. Mia Wagner of Greenfield, Steven E. Cokonougher of Frankfort, Brian J. Cokonougher of Abilene, Texas, Amie Lynn and Jason R. Cokonougher of Westerville, and Emily Ann Cokonougher of Chillicothe; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, September 2, at Murray Funeral Home. Burial will be in South Salem Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the Greenfield VFW and the Bainbridge American Legion Post. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

JOSEPH COKONOUGHER
Joseph E. Cokonougher, Fruitdale, died at 7 a.m. Tuesday at his residence after a short illness. He was born Feb. 22, 1880 in Ross County, a son of Jachariah [sic; Zachariah] and Mary Wisecup Cokonougher. Surviving are his wife, the former Veba Storts; a son, Elwood, Greenfield; a daughter, Mrs. James Walley, Bainbridge; a step-daughter, Mrs. Ivan Williams, Hamilton; a sister, Mrs. John Schmidt, South Salem; two brothers, John and Harve, South Salem; and seven grandchildren. A sister and three brothers preceded him in death. Service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Murray Funeral Home. Burial will be in South Salem Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday.

H. Pauline "Polly" (Anders) Cokonougher, 68, of Westerville, died Monday, Aug. 4, 1997, at her sonճ residence in Westerville. Born Feb. 28, 1929, in Clinton County, she was the daughter of George E. Anders and Lydia Belle (Jett) Anders. She attended the McKendree United Methodist Church. She is survived by her children, Glen M. Cokonougher and Patricia Hollyday of Andover, N.J., and Steven and Judy Cokonougher of Westerville; six grandchildren, Mia Wagner of Greenfield, Steven Cokonougher Jr. of Frankfort, Brian Cokonougher of Texas, Amie Fleck of Lewis Center, Emily Ann Cokonougher of Chillicothe, and Jason Cokonougher of Westerville; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, David J. Anders of Russells Point and Neville Anders of Holiday, Fla.; and a special friend, Harold Eklow of Holiday, Fla. She was preceeded in death by her husband John H. Cokonougher; two sisters, five brothers and an infant son. Funeral services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at the Murray Funeral Home, Greenfield, with Rev. Sue Ellen Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the South Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be held after 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
