Christina Elizabeth Emrich Streitenberger 5/12/1876 - 1/15/1976
Mrs. Christina E[lizabeth] Streitenberger, 99, Route 1, Piketon, died at 2:30 am Wednesday [15 Jan 1976] in the Casey Nursing Home following an extended illness. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, Waverly, where the funeral will be held at 10 am Friday with the Rev. G.J. Marzluf officiating. Burial will follow in St. Margaret's Cemetery, Chillicothe. Friends may call 2-9 pm Thursday at the Botkin Funeral Home, Waverly, where recitation of the rosary will be at 8.

Born May 12, 1876 in Pike County, she was the daughter of Peter and Catherine Sowash Emrich. Surviving are four sons, Clarence E., Cincinnati, Merrill, Waverly, Ernest, Portsmouth, James E. Jr. and Paul, both of Chillicothe; two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Smelosky and Mrs. Martina Knapp, both of Columbus; 16 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. Her husband, James E. Streitenberger, died November 9, 1962.

JAMES EDWARD STREITENBERGER

 

Funeral Mass for James Edward Streitenberger, Jr., 63, of 847 Madison Ave., will be held at 10:30 am Saturday at St. Mary's Church. Burial will follow in St. Margaret's Cemetery. Friends may call after 4pm today at the Fawcett-Oliver and Glass Funeral Home where recitation of the rosary will be at 7:30 pm.

Owner and operator of the Streitenberger Garage in Waverly for 17 years, Streitenberger died at 10:15 am Thursday [14 Sep 1972] at Chillicothe Hospital following an extended illness.

Born on September 30, 1908 in Ross County, he was the son of James Edward Sr. and Christina Emerich Streitenberger. On November 28, 1935 he was married to Stella Mary Bigler who survives. Also surviving are his mother of Piketon, five daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Liz) Kutschbach and Mrs. Barry (Jean) Smith, both of Chillicothe, Sister Margaret Streitenberger, SCC, Kensington, Maryland, Mrs. James (Mary) Fadden, Middletown, and Mrs. Robert (Christina) Fadden, Monroe, a son, James F. Streitenberger, Waverly; 20 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. William (Ethel) Smelosky and Mrs. John (Martina) Knap, both of Columbus; and four brothers, Paul, Chillicothe, Ernest J., Portsmouth, Merrill J., Waverly, and Clarence E., Miamiville.

Streitenberger was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, Flaget Council 1071.

JAMES E. STREITENBERGER

James E. Streitenberger, 86, Waverly, Route 3, died at 9:05am Friday [09 Nov 1962] at his residence after an illness of two years. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Pike County Farm Bureau.

Born on December 5, 1875, in Pike County to John and Rachel Dennewitz Streitenberger, he married Christina Emrich on November 27, 1898. She survives.

Also surviving are five sons, Clarence E., Cincinnati, Merrill, Waverly, Ernest, Portsmouth, James E. Jr. and Paul, both of Chillicothe; two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Smelosky and Mrs. Martina Knapp, both of Columbus; 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, two brothers, and two sisters.

Service will be held at 11 am Monday in St. Mary's Church, Waverly, with the Rev. Leo Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in St. Margaret's Cemetery, Chillicothe, by the Boyer Funeral Home. There will be a recitation of the Rosary at 7:30 pm Sunday in the funeral home. Friends may call there after 6:30 pm Saturday.

STELLA STREITENBERGER

Stella Mary Streitenberger, 84, of Waverly, died suddenly 7:25 p.m. Saturday, December 11, 1999, in Adena Regional Medical Center.

She was born April 1, 1915, in Anna, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph Frank and Josephine Helen Schumacher Bigler. On November 28, 1935, she married James Edward Streitenberger, who preceded her in death September 14, 1972.

Surviving are five daughters, Liz (Joe) Kutschbach, Chillicothe, Margaret Streitenberger, Fulton, NY, Mary (James) Fadden, Centerville, Christina (Robert) Fadden, Monroe, and Jean (Barry) Smith, Chillicothe; one son, James (Janice) Streitenberger, Sr., Waverly; 27 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen (Charles) Kelly, Columbus; and four brothers, Francis (Zeb) Bigler, Waverly, Victor Bigler, Chillicothe, Bernard (Lola) Bigler, Prairie Village, Kansas, and Arnold (Elinor) Bigler, Vermillion. She was preceded in death by one sister, Theresa Hirsch; and one brother, Joseph Bigler.

As a partner with her husband, Mrs. Streitenberger co-founded and owned Streitenberger Garage in Waverly. Graduating in 1933 from Huntington High School, she was class president all four years, and captain of the Girls Basketball team. She was an active bowler in ladies league until age 81. She was a devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was active in church and women's groups.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 15, 1999, in St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Father Donald E. Franks officiating. Burial will follow in St. Margaret's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, where a prayer service will be observed at 7:30 p.m.

[NB: Pallbearers were six of Stella's grandsons: James Streitenberger, Jr., Michael Fadden, William Fadden, David Smith, John Kutschbach, and Matt Kutschbach.]
