MARGARET SPEES

Margaret Spees, consort of S. G. Spees, was born near Chillicothe, Ross county, Ohio, November 14th, 1822; joined the M.E. Church and professed religion in her thirteenth year, and lived a consistent Christian life til her death, January 17, 1875.

She was married to S. G. Spees November 16th, 1840, and moved to Delaware county, Ohio, in 1853, bringing their certificates of membership from the M.E. Church, and shourtly after their arrival joined the M.P. Church, under the administration of Rev. O.P. Stephans.

She was attacked with neuralgia of the bowels, about the middle of May last, but was by times able to be about until the 11th of Oct. last. During her suffering and affliction, her faith failed not. She retained her mind til death. A few hours before she passed away, she lost her speech in part; by times she could speak audibly. When the family and friends were around her bed, her husband spoke to her, when she drew him near and threw her arms around his neck and imparted the last affectionate kiss, then with her delicate and feeble hand, wiped the falling tears from his cheeks, and said, "Weep not for me; all is well; I am going to the home of the just; meet me there"; and in a few minutes fell a sleep in Jesus, and "those who sleep in Jesus will God bring with him."

This dear sister, as a neighbor was kind and obliging as a wife and mother, all that could be desired; as a Christian she was uniform, steadfast and exemplary. She left a kind husband and five children with other friends and relatives to mourn her loss; may we not forget to extend to them our sympathies and offer to heaven our prayer for them. I hope that this dear brother will find the grace of God sufficient for him in his deep affliction, and that he with his children may meet a sainted mother in heaven. -- T.H. Wilson
