LADIES AID SOCIETY MET

The Ladies Aid Society of the First U.B. Church met at the church, Thursday afternoon, for a most interesting meeting, with eleven members and four visitors in attendance. The new president, Mrs. Oscar Anthony, was in charge of the meeting, which opened with a song "Sweet Hour of Prayer". The scripture lesson was read by the president, followed by a song, "Yield not to Temptation," and prayer by Mrs. Thurman Dunkle, and another song, "Every Day and Hour." The secretary, Mrs. Elwood Curtis read the minutes of the preceding meeting, and the usual business was transacted. A number of plans for raising money for the building fund were discussed, by nothing definite decided. In closing, the song "Carry Your Cross With a Smile," was sung. The social hour followed, in which the following program was presented: reading, "How to Bake a Cake", Mrs. Thurman Dunkle, reading, "If We Knew, " Mrs. H.O. Thompson reading, "What Do We Hear," and in closing, all united in singing "Breach the Road to Heaven with a Smile," and after which the Lord's Prayer was repeated.

 


W.M.S. MEETING

The woman's Missionary Society of the Tabernacle Baptist Church met on Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Guy Davis on East Fourth Street, with Mrs. Harley Thornton presiding. The devotionals were led by Mrs. A.T. Woodside, and a very interesting program in charge of Mrs. Harriet Bickel, was presented at the close, in which a number of the members participated. Following the business session, a social hour was spent during which the hostess, assisted by Mrs. Bickel, served refreshments. The October meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Wayne O'Bryant (unreadable) Street.

 


BRIDGE CLUB WAS ENTERTAINED

[Unreadable] and Mrs. Frank Hohenstein were guests, Thursday evening, when Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Zeigler entertained their bridge club at their home on North High Street. The evening was particularly pleasant, spent about the three tables, and after the interesting gave, prizes were won by Mrs. Harry Rittinger and Mr. Frank Hohenstein, whose scores were high, and Mrs. Jacob Schreiner and Mr. (Unreadable). Light refreshments brought the happy affair to a close. Mr. and Mrs. A.F. Hellman of Allen Avenue will entertain the club at its next meeting, in two weeks.

 


ROGERS-ROAT

Mrs. Pearl Roat of Youngstown, O., announces the marriage of her daughter, Miss Ruby Roat, to Mr. Clement H. Rogers of Youngstown, which was solemnized on August 7, 1928. Mrs. Roat and her family formerly resided her on North Sugar Street, and have many friends who are extending their sincere felicitations to the happy bride and groom. Mr. and Mrs. Rogers will make their home in Youngstown.

 


AN EVENING EUCHRE PARTY

The Daughter of American entertained with a euchre, Thursday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Proehl, on Scioto Avenue, with four tables assembled for the game. After an interesting game, prizes were won by Mrs. Henry Hatmaker, Mrs. W.D. Shepard, Herbert Proehl and Raymond Barrows. Light refreshments were served at the close.

 


CLUB DAY AT COUNTRY CLUB

Thursday the the Country Club marked another delightful affair, which has added it history to thelong list of lovely days at the club. The weather was ideal, the companionship was congenial, and nothing was lacking to make the ay an outstanding one. The Club was particularly attractive with its fall flowers, which were also used on the tables where a delicious luncheon was served. Among the guests was Mrs. Albert Stults, of Chicago. Thirteen tables of bridge were formed for the pleasant afternoon at bridge, forming the second game in the tournament. Mrs. W.W. Chapman was chairman of the tournament,. Mrs. C.H. Wiedler was chairman of the luncheon committee and her associates were Miss Viola Veail, Mrs. H. K. Claypool and Mrs. Fred L. Schlegel.

 


ENTERTAINED FOR BRIDE

Misses Helen Sypherd and Edith Woodall entertained recently with a lovely party and miscellaneous shower at the home of the former on Park Street, for the pleasure of Mrs. Roscoe Wagner (Gladys Thomas) who are now at housekeeping on East Fifth Street. Fifteen guests enjoyed an evening of games and music, and later, a tempting salad course was served. Mrs. Wagner was the recipient of a number of handsome gifts which she will take pleasure in using in her new home.

 


SOCIAL NEWS...

Miss Mabel Wurster of Grandview, O., will arrive this evening to spend the week end at her apartment in the Foulke Block.

Mr. and Mrs. David Ewing of Lancaster, O., will arrive here Saturday, to be the guests of relatives here.

Miss Isabel Traquair, Miss Eugenia Noble, Miss Helen Poston, and Veron Barrett will leave Tuesday to resume their studies at Oberlin College.

Miss Katherine Mills, of Caldwell Street, left today to resume her studies at Wellesley College, Wellesley, Mass.

Mrs. Frank Hinton, of Caldwell Street, is visiting friends in Columbus.

Mrs. Ina Truitt and Miss Ethel Truitt, of North High Street, were guests, Wednesday, at the golden wedding celebration of Mrs. And Mrs. Ninnian S. Craig, of Washington C.H.

Miller and Weinrich Families Hold Reunion

The annual reunion of the Miller and Weinrich families and friends was held Sunday Sept. 9th, at thehome of Mrs. Lydia Miller near Richmondale.

A picnic dinner was served on the lawn at the noon hour. It was later decided to meet the first Sunday in Sept. 1929, at the home of Wm. Miller near Jackson, O.
