[NB: Records before 1865 were very sparce, incomplete and oftentimes difficult
to read.]

1814
On 22 Feb, Benjamin Shaugh Hill and his son John Benjamin Hill bought 800 total acres recorded as Plat No. 6837 in Deerfield Twp from Henry Massie. Of that total, 200 acres were listed as taxable.
Date unknown, Robert Hill bought 200 acres, Plat No. 414 in Deerfield Twp. The seller, purchase price, and taxes were not on the record. The record showed, however, that Robert Hill also bought four land plats in Highland, Adams and Franklin Counties, totaling some 1650 acres. By 1819, all property in counties other than Ross had been sold. It appears Robert's attempt to become a "Land Baron" in southern Ohio fell victim to escalating tax rates.
Robert Hill bought two plots in Deerfield Twp, Plat No. 1198, 145 acres, from Robert White, and Plat No. 6048, 18 acres, from Burgess Ball. The dates, prices, and taxes were not recorded.
John Benjamin Hill bought 100 acres, Plat No. 1218, from John Britain, in Twin Twp. This land was sold to Henry Medskill on 6 Feb 1815.
John Benjamin Hill bought 37 acres, Plat No. 1030, from William Brownlee, in Twin Twp. This land was also sold to Henry Medskill on 6 Feb 1815.
1819
Benjamin and John Hill appear to have refinanced 200 acres of their 1814 land purchase from Henry Massie. Plat No. 6837 in Deerfield Twp was recorded as a 200 acre area instead of the original 800. In 1819, $2.00 were paid in taxes.
1822
John Benjamin Hill deeded 200 acres to Robert Hill, a portion of Plat No. 6837 in Deerfield Twp. That year John bought land near New Holland in Pickaway Co, and moved from Ross Co.
1828
Benjamin Shaugh Hill's wife, Elizabeth, died in Deerfield Twp. He deeded his portion of Plat No. 6837 to Robert Hill.
1863
Robert Hill died on his property in Deerfield Twp. All lands owned by Robert Hill were sold to DeWitt & Mallow, save 37 acres, which were deeded by the family in a Quit-Claim Litigation to John Fletcher Hill, son of John Benjamin Hill.
1865
The last vestige of original Plat No. 6837, awarded to Nathaniel and Henry Massie for service in the Revolutionary War, was renumbered 4263, and sold, along with two houses on the land, to John Holmes for $180.00. By the end of 1865, Plat 6837 was unrecognizable, and was owned by the following men with acreage as shown:
Henry Lawrence 141.5 James H. Crabb 100.0 T. Collins 170.0 Thomas Junk 100.0 W. C. Mallow 57.0 A. D. Mallow 168.0 Murphy Taylor 167.0 ------ Total 896.5
