SPRINGER posted by ted brown on Saturday, October 19, 1996

John and Mary Springer...parents of Isaac born 1860/1 One answer is John SPRINGER ended up in Dayton, Tippecanoe,In. and married Mary Hessian there in 1860...returned home to Matamoras (New Matamoras ??) before son Isaac was born 1861 Feb. 1865 he and a cousin Jonas SPRINGER volunteered for Union Army...John (Jno.) died of Typhoid Nov.1865 near Macon...body later moved to Andersonville cemetary... Mary supposedly remarried (Wilson??) Isaac ended up in Pasadena Calif. about 1885 and wouldn't talk about his early life... Another John is in Monior township 1850 census with an 11 year old son John...1840 census for Monior has Jno Springer household with male son under 5 years... I need any/all records of these people...my guess is that Mary Hessian Springer returned to Dayton, Indiana after John's death and remarried...leaving Isaac to deal with a step family he didn't like...

Would like the parents of William WHEELER and Caroline BALDWIN. Caroline born 12 Dec 1828 Portage County, OH. Only clue on 2nd marriage license showed father was a Henry BALDWIN. About 1853 to Hopkins Twp, Allegan, MI. Neighbor was Samuel S Baldwin who could have been a brother of Caroline, she may have also been the sister of Henry Baldwin who resided in Solon Cuyahoga, OH in 1850. Wm Wheeler was a minister of the Disciples of Christ Church. Caroline (Baldwin) Wheeler married 2nd Perry J Cleveland 26 Jan 1893 in Fremont, Newaygo, MI and 1903 moved to Harrison, AR. BALDWIN, PERKINS, WHEELER posted by Janice Gearhart on Wednesday, November 6, 1996

Looking for parents of William W WHEELER and Caroline BALDWIN. Wm born 11 Apr 1818 Portage County, OH married 4 May 1844 Portage County Caroline born 12 Dec 1828 Portage. Only census record I have found where Caroline Baldwin fits is Eliakim and Harriet (PERKINS) BALDWIN. Eliakim built the 1st dam in Aurora and they have lots of children. Some of their children may have been Caroline, SAMUEL S, and HENRY BALDWIN. Does anyone know the children of Eliakim and Harriet? William W Wheeler could have been the son the Oliver WHEELER or Frederick WHEELER. He fits age wise into both families. Family rumor states my next step back I should find that one the of mother's of either Wm or Caroline (Baldwin) Wheeler was American Indian.

CREQUE, CRIQUI, GRIGGY, KENDAL posted by Mike Schwitzgebel on Sunday, November 10, 1996

I am seeking information about the family of Ferdinand and Anna Eva (KENDAL) CREQUE. Ferdinand was born October 1808 in France and died 22 February 1873 in Portage Co., Ohio. According to 1850 census data, Ferdinand and his family lived in Baltimore, Maryland, but resettled before 1860 in Portage County, Ohio, where Ferdinand was a shoemaker and later a grocer. Anna Eva was born 17 July 1817 in Alsace, France, and died 29 April 1897 in Portage County. My primary interest in this family is in determining whether or not Ferdinand's line is related to the line of Johannes CRIQUI/GRIGGY, my 3g-grandfather. More detailed information on both families is available on my web pages at http://genealogy.org/~mschwitz.

WILSON posted by Linda Maher on Monday, November 11, 1996

I would greatly appreciate help locating the Civil War Unit of my gg Grandfather Samuel WILSON. He would have been around 28 at the start of the war. I have checked the 1890 Special Census for Vets and can't find him in Edinburg or Palmyra, Portage Co, where he resided in 1880 and 1900. His wife was Eliza Dodds Wilson. There were just too many Samuel Wilsons! His brother Isaac (from Canfield, Mahoning Co) was in the 125 OVI Co A. There was a Samuel Wilson in the 126 OVI. Would consectutive unit #'s be mustered in in the same region?
