Newsletter - No 2 - November 12, 1973
Dear Member:
The Pike County Genealogical Society, though we began small, is growing and those who attended are a congenial enthusiastic group. Would you believe we have fun at our meetings? Total membership is now thirty-eight.
The Constitution should be ready for its final reading and vote for the next meeting.
It has been suggested that we consider sponsoring a reprint of “Evan’s Pioneer Recollections of the Scioto Valley”.
We are making progress on recording the tombstone readings in Evergreen Cemetery here in Waverly. Probably a third of them are done. We have just obtained the first deed book for the lots and have copied it and will get three more as soon as we copy them. We are promised a map of the cemetery and that will be a help.
Our overall goal is eventually to publish all of the cemeteries in Pike County. So far nine of these have been completed and contributed, not only by our own diligent members, but some from others who are searching for ancestors and made a clean sweep by recording all of the stones found.
We have forty-six named cemeteries now located on our county map plus many for which we do not know the names. You see we have cut out a big project for ourselves. Any of you distant members who can contribute anything or any information to the project, please do so.
The enclosed blanks are for you to use in recording your own ancestral line on which you need help or can help others. We are asking all members to fill these in. When they received we plan to make a master cross reference file of some sort, so an inquirer can quickly be referred to a person who is working on the same line.
The next meeting will be Sunday afternoon, November 18, from 1:30 to 5:00 at 110 Columbia Drive, Waverly. The date and time of this meeting were changed, hoping members from outside the county who cannot attend our evening meetings can join us for one. Please do not disappoint us.
If coming from the north (thru Chillicothe) turn left at the first traffic light: immediately (about fifty feet) turn left again towards Bristol Village. Columbia Drive is the only street to the left. If you go as far as Bristol Village, you have gone too far.
Sincerely,
Bernice Francis
