Keechle John

Final rites for  John R. Keechle, 63, well known native of Waverly were held at 9:30 a.m. at St Mary's Church here with Rev. Father Noon officiating.  Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery here under the direction of the Botkin Funeral Home.
     Prayers were said at 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
     Mr. Keechie, a retired Detroit, Toledo and Ironton Railway employee, succumbed at 1:50 p.m. Friday, Oct 22 in Pike County Hospital.  He had been in ill health since October 1957.
     He was a 1923 graduate of Waverly High School, where he played baseball and football.  During the 1930's he was  a pitcher for the Waverly Bluebirds, managed by Dave Barr.
     Mr. Keechle held membership in the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen and the Elks Lodge.  He was a honorary member of Merritt Post 142, American Legion, and was an active member of the Pike County Unit of the American Cancer Society.  He was a member of St. Mary's Church here.
     During his early years he worked on one of the county newspapers then published at Piketon, and later had served as the clerk of the Pike County Board of Elections, for a number of years.
    Born on June 2, 1903 in Waverly, he was a son of Dr. Cornelius M. and Annabelle (Aston) Keechle.
     On June 9, 1929 he was united in marriage of Hilda Miller of Waverly in Maysville, Ky., who survives.
     Also surviving is a son, John Robert Keechle Jr., of Columbus; three daughters, Mrs. Henry Sanders, Jr. of Waverly, Mrs. Jack Bryant of Rt 2 Waverly and Mrs. Jerry Dutcher of 620 Salisbury Road, Waverly; and 15 grandchildren.
     He was preceded in death by one son, three brothers and one sister.  His family requests county ablution in his memory be made to the Pike County Unit of the American Cancer Society.
