Well Known Local Citizen is called by Death
John T. son of William E and Mary J. Osborn, who was born near Long Bottom, Meigs County, Ohio, May 10th, 1851. Owing to the early death of his mother his childhood and youth were sadly wanting in parental love and affection and full of privation and hardship. While still in his teens he came to Pike County to seek employment and has since been a resident of this county. On January 15th, 1875, he was united in marriage with Nancy C. Haynes. To them were born six sons and three daughters of whom two sons and one daughter preceded him to the long home. His mature years have been brightened by the sympathy, love and devotion of the companion who for fifty one years has walked at his side adorn lives' way and shared with him in the labor and reward, the success and the failure as well as the joy and the sorrow so common to us all.
In early manhood he gave his heart to God and united with Clines' Chapel M. E. Church.
Upon removing to Waverly some years ago, he transferred his membership to the U. B. Church and remained a member until his death. Whatever may have been his human frailties we are glad, today, to know that he believed in prayer and in a Heavenly Father who hears his children when they pray and who loves and cares for all who strive to do His will.
As the day of life was fading away, it was great comfort to hear him say:
"It's is all right. I have no fear. I am ready to go. All is well."
At the close of a prayer, which was offered by a visiting minister, he responded with a hearty "Amen," and said: "How I do love to hear a good prayer."
Peacefully he sank to rest in the evening-time on the 17th of February 1926. Aged 74 years, nine months and four days. He leaves a devoted wife, four sons: William and Louis, of Waverly and Ray and John, of Columbus, Ohio; and two daughters, Mrs. Flora Chamberlain, of Mt. Sterling and Mrs. Rosa Butcher, of Jeffersonville, Ohio; two brothers and many other relatives and friends to mourn his departure.
Funeral services were held at the home at one o'clock on Tuesday, February 16th, and conducted by Rev. McCullough, of the Waverly M. E. Church. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery.
