John A. Eylar

John A. Eylar
     John A. Eylar was born in Youngsville, this county (Adams County) on February 16, 1855, the son of John & Anna A. Eylar and died May 23, 1916 at his home in Waverly.
     He was a graduate of West Union schools, later studying law under John K. Billings and was admitted to the Bar - April 20, 1876.  Soon thereafter he located in Waverly, Ohio for the practice of his profession.
      He enjoyed a large clientele throughout southern Ohio, and while Prosecutor of Pike County, is said to have drawn 400 indictments, only one of which was held to be defective.     
      He was counsel in many cases of importance in Adams County, and was regarded as an able attorney and a brilliant orator.
      Mr. Eylar was married to Lucy Dougas, February 16, 1887, who, with had three daughters and one son survive.  
      He was buried May 26, 1919 at Waverly, Ohio.
