ERNEST DOWDLE DIES SUDDENLY - Former Sheriff of Pike County Expires After a Short  Illness.

     John Ernest (Hookie) Dowdle, 61, former Sheriff of Pike County, died at 9:45 p.m. last Friday at his residence here, following a two-month's illness.
     He had served two terms as Sheriff after filling positions as Constable and Deputy Sheriff.
     During the Davey administration he was a state liquor inspector, and in recent years, he had been employed in the county highway engineering department.
     He was born in Pike County on October 27, 1884, the son of John and Lida Newton Dowdle, and is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Frances Keiser, of this community, and Mrs. Charles Keiser, of Warsaw, Indiana, two sisters, Mrs. Mae Cochenour, of Chillicothe and Mrs. John McLaughlin, of Columbus.
      Services were held at the A. M.  Gregg Funeral Home at two p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. E. R. Bull officiating and interment in Evergreen Cemetery.
