     Gladys West Roberts, 80, of 407 Bridge Street, Waverly died unexpectedly at 3 a.m., August 1979 at Pike County Hospital.
     She was born December 4, 1898 in Pike County, to Stewart E. West Sr. and Savilla Black.  She married Forest E. Roberts on August 19, 1925.  Her husband predeceased her on April 20, 1971.
     Surviving are one son, Mr. David E. Roberts, of 404 Vine Street, Waverly; two granddaughters, Lisa and Lynne Roberts; two brothers, Thornton E. West of  Idaho, and Stewart E. West, Jr., of Route #4, Waverly; one sister, Mrs. John (Mildred) Teichert, of 205 W. 3rd Street Waverly.
     She was preceded by husband, parents, two brothers and sister.
     She was a retired deputy clerk of the Pike County Clerk of Courts, a member of the Pike County Hospital Guild #12, and a member of the Grace united Methodist Church in Waverly.
     Funeral services will be held a 1 p.m., Thursday at the Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. R. L. Sayre and Rev. H. Douglas Shiner co-presiding.  Interment will be at the Waverly Evergreen Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Boyer Funeral Home after 5 p.m., Wednesday, and at the church on Thursday, from noon until time of service.
     Memorial contributions can be made to the Pike County Hospital Intensive Care Unit.

NEWLAND, Mrs. Florence 

     Funeral Services for Mrs. Florence Newland, 70, of Route #4, Waverly, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Buchanan Christian Union Church, with Rev. Jimmie Williams officiating.  Burial followed at the Leeth Creech Cemetery, near Idaho, under the direction of the Botkins Funeral Home of Waverly.  Friends called at the funeral home from 1 until 9 p.m. Saturday, and at the church one hour prior to the final rite.
     Mrs. Newland died at 5:45 a.m. Thursday in the Pike County Hospital, after an extended illness.
     A native of Pike County, she was born in Newton Township, on December 14, 1906, a daughter of Floyd and Sarah Groves Williams.
     Her Husband, Floyd C. Newland, whom she married on December 12. 1923, predeceased her on October 26, 1970.
    Surviving are two sons, Donald C. Newland of Route #4, Waverly, and Dale E. Newland of Route #2, Piketon; three daughters, Mrs. Otis (Goldie) Mustard of Idaho, Mrs. Herman (Thelma) Mustard of 232 St. Marys Lane, Waverly and Mrs. Lloyd (Helen) Conley of Route #4, Waverly; 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Custer Williams of Troy; one half-brother, Roger Williams of Vandaila; three sisters, Mrs. Van (Ruby) Ferguson and Mrs. Oliver (Edna) Stager, both of Troy, and Mrs. Delmar Dixie) Lewis of Dayton; and two half sisters, Mrs. Virginia Moorman of Dayton and Mrs. Donna Victor of West Milton, Ohio.
     Mrs. Newland was a member of the Buchanan Christian Union Church.

CLEMENTS, Velvia 

     Velvia Clements, 84, formerly of Wilson Run Road, Chillicothe, died at 11:50 p.m. Thursday (July 1986) at the Dieber Nursing Home in Chillicothe.
     She was the retired owner/operator of Hatfield Grocery.
     A Scioto County native born August 29, 1900, she was preceded in death in 1971 by her husband, Herman Clements.  Also preceding her in death was her first husband, Henry Hatfield, and her second husband, Henry Goodman.
     Survivors include three brothers, Ola A. Sword, 1903 Moss Hollow Rd, Chillicothe; Ova O. Sword, 199 Cedarwood Drive, Chillicothe; and Otha O. Sword, 2147 Wilson Run Road, Chillicothe.  Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
     Mrs. Clements was a member of the Antonia Bible Christian Church on Wilson Run Road.
     The funeral was 2 p.m. Sunday at Boyer Funeral Home with Rev. John Tatman officiating.
      Burial was in Omega Cemetery.

STREITENBERGER, Rachael Anna 

She was the daughter of Jacob and Agnes Smeltzer, was born in Scioto County, April 12, 1860 and died June 5, 1917, 57 years, 1 month and 23 days.  She was married to William STREITENBERGER on December 2, 1877.  To this union was born eleven children:  William, Levi, John, Cleveland, Jacob, Sarah, Floyd, Mamie, Jesse, Edward, Stella.  William eldest son and daughters, Mamie and Stella have preceded her to the great beyond.  She leaves her husband, eight children to mourn her loss.  Funeral service were conducted by Rev. S. W. MAXWELL in C. U. Church at Givens, Internment in the Givens Cemetery.

CHENOWETH, Miss Addie M. 

She was the daughter of Abraham and Jermina (BLACKSTONE) CHENOWETH, was born in Pike County, Onio on May 14, 1857, and passed to her reward from her home in Waverly, Ohio on November 23, 1927, aged 70 years, 6 months and 9 days.  She is survived by one brother, Thomas CHENOWETH, of Washington Court House, Ohio; three sisters, Mrs. Rebecca PERRILL of Washington Court House, and Misses Mary Jane CHENOWETH of the home in Waverly.  The funeral service was held at the home, Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, the Rev. H. H. WILBUR, offiiating.  Burial was made in EVERGREEN CEMETERY with Undertaker, Geo R. McMILLIAN, in charge.

PANCAKE, Viola Bowdish 

She was the daughter of James and Rebecca BOWDISH, was born at Chillicothe on May 21, 1852 and passed most of her life in the Scioto Valley.  On the 16th day of September 1868, she was united in marriage to Isaac Milton PANCAKE, who preceded her into the Great Beyond on May 9, 1914.  Two children were born to this union; a son who died in infancy and Minnie, who later became the wife of William Wood, living on the Scioto Trail south of Waverly.  Mr. and Mrs. Wood have two children.  Mrs. Leafy METZGER of Cincinnati, and June, who makes her home with her sister while attending the University of Cincinnati.

MASTERS, George 

He was born March 8, 1839, who died December 12, 1912, aged 73 years, 9 months and 4 days.  He was married on july 29th 1865, to Hannah MOORE, daughter of the late Rev. Alfred MOORE of Pike County.  To this union were born nine children, six of who are living and three having preceded their father to the great beyond some years ago.  Those living are:  Mr. Robert MASTERS, Mrs. Mary BOBO, Mrs. Elizabeth STREITENERGER, all of Washington Court House, Benjamin MASTERS of Farmersville, Ohio, Mrs. Victoria ROCK, Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. Polly EVANS, Franklin, Ohio.

GIVENS, Comfort Butcher 

She was the wife of the late Henry C. GIVENS and she was born near Beaver, Ohio, on the 3rd day of July, 1845, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. W. HELMAN, in Waverly, Ohio, on the 4th day of December 1916, aged 71 years, 5 months and 1 day.  She was the youngest of a family of ten children, the daughter of William and Nancy BUTCHER, pioneer residents of the Beaver Valley.  Her brother and sisters have all preceded her in death, and she had been for the last few years, the last surviving member of one of the largest and representative families who helped to develop the eastern part of Pike County.  She was married to the late Henry C. GIVENS, on the 2nd day of May 1864 and five children have been born to them as issue of said marriage, as follows:  Newton E. Givens, Lillie F. Helman, William J. GIVENS, Nancy Cora RADER, and Grover C. GIVENS, all of whom together with thirteen living grand-children still survive her.  He late husband passed away on the 6th day of last July.
