Beaver Valley Catholic Church Cemetery
I have the names and approximate birth /death dates for 5 people from Beaver Valley Catholic Church Cemetery in Noble county on Route 23. I've written to the county clerk of Noble county and they tell me that they can not find any death records. Since these are from roughly 1900, I figured that there would be good records available. Any reason why not or what might be wrong? I'm trying to find death records of these people. The names are:
James Hughes b NY ~1840, d 21 Feb 1906
Mary Hughes Wife of John Hughes 1830-1893
Elizabeth Hughes 1847-1900
Sarah Hughes 1857-1951
Francis Hughes 1847-1931
Looking at an old map of Noble county, it appears that this church and cemetary were located 1 mile east of Batesville, along the Beaver creek. Can you tell me anything about this church? Is it still there? Wher might the records be located? Is there an address or phone number that I could use to contact them? As I said, it appears that the people that I am looking for are buried in their cemetary. I feel that this might be an important link to solving this puzzle. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

I am researching the THURLOW surname as a one-name study, alternately spelled THORLA, THURLO, THORLO, THURLOE amongst others. I have tracked one line of this family from Massachusetts and New Hampshire to Ohio in the early 1800s. I have some photocopied extracts from "The History of Noble County" and a limited family tree that refers to a family of THORLAs living at Brookfield, Olive, and Noble Townships in Noble County. A T. M. Thurlow was the Noble County Sheriff in 1905, according to a note and stationary I have signed at Caldwell, Ohio 30 Oct 1905. I believe when the family first arrived in Ohio in the 1810s/20s they may have also lived in Monroe County. The THORLAs also ran a distillery producing Rye Whiskey called 'Old Thorla' at Zanesville.
To my point, I am looking for any genealogy or family history that traces any and/or all THURLOW/THORLAs etc from their arrival in Ohio to the present. With the information I have already collected I may also be of some help to anyone with an interest in this or related families in this region, or anywhere else for that matter. I will gladly share what I have. 10/14/96

I am researching the MOORE and or MOOSE surnames of Monroe co., but also have records where they lived in Belmont and Noble counties in the mid 1800's. In 1850 Isac and Marcilla MOORE were living in Bealsville, Sunsbury Twp. but I find other mention of the MOOSE surname, so I am not certain if the name maybe was misspelled or if they changed the spelling. I believe it is MOORE as that is my maiden name and I am hunting for my ggrfather Daniel MOORE b. about 1850, son of Isac and Marcilla, I think, he married a Mary LONGLEY and settled in Muskingum CO. Zanesville, OH. He was there until 1912 and is lost from that time on. Also, the Name MELLOTT and PITTMAN seems to be mentioned with this. They have connections to William SMITH of Noble county and to the RUSH name of this area. Believe some to be buried in the Bealsville cem. but I haven't been able to sort it all out. Thanks. Please respond by email. Dated 10/1/96

Bill Martin
John MARTIN, b. York, PA, about 1775-1800; d. possibly in Licking Co, OH, about 1848-1849. He was born ...of Irish parents who immigrated in an early day... I'm guessing they came about 1750-1770. He left York around 1800 and headed for Belmont Co., OH with his first wife, Susan(nah) OURIE / UREY / ULRY. Susan OUREY MARTIN may have died in eastern OH about 1817-1818 after bearing: Margaret, Samuel, Susannah, Rachel, Joseph, Jacob, Angeline (Anne), Rebecca and one other child who died.

   Margaret m. _____MORRISON and lived in Noble
Co., OH. Both died prior to 1853. Samuel m. Susannah______, prior to 1853 Susannah

Jacob m. Jane _____, by 1849. Angeline [Ann] m. Benjamin DELAHEY, 1832 Rebecca

May have been in the Civil War and buried at Perryton. David moved to VanWert, then to Allen Co.,IN. Married Melinda CLEM. Caroline married Isaac RINE and lived in Coshocton Co. JuliaAnn married Gerard Cone MITCHELL. If you're working on any of these, I'll be glad to share my data - and I need to know more about these folks in the mid to late 1700's. Please respond by email. I am researching the family of William H.S. BARRY/BERRY who died abt 1846 in Morgan County. Mary (wife), Ruth, Samuel, and Allen are listed as heirs. The 1850 Census for Noble twp, Morgan Co. lists Mary(or Merry) BERRY with children Ruth, Samuel, Allen, and John age 4. John must have been born shortly after his father died I am thinking? A Ruth BERRY marries Francis PETTAY in Noble Co. and Ruth and Francis PETTAY are listed in the 1860 census in Center twp., Noble co., along with John W. or M.? BERRY, age 13.
I have many questions regarding this family, but 3 or 4 specific ones;
1. A William BARRY marries Mary GILKERSON 4 Dec 1834 in Morgan co. OH. Is William H.S. BARRY and Mary his wife and heir? 2. I found record of two marriages for a Ruth BARRY, 1855 to Solomon ARCHER and 1858 to James HESSON. Is either of these the daughter of William H.S. BARRY? 3. Is the Mary BARRY that married Francis PETTAY the wife of William H.S. BARRY? 4. and foremost; My g-grandfather William H.S. BERRY, stated in his Civil War Pension Application that he was born 2 June 1841 in Noble Co. OH. His marriage record in the same application state he was age 23 at time of marriage (which would make his birth abt 1847) 1870 to 1900 census have his birth varying from 1841 to 1846. Family tradition states he lied about his age to join the army in the civil war. His pension application does not include his parent's names.
I had thought that my g-grandfather was William H.S. BERRY was probably the John M. or W., age 4 in the 1860 census with Francis and Mary PETTAY and later changed his name to his father's name. But I am wondering if he might have been Samuel in the 1850 census with Mary, Ruth, Allen, and John? - or none of the above? Samuel was age 11 in the 1850 census (b abt 1841). I have a civil war pension application for an Allen BARRY/BERRY which includes a statement from his brother William BERRY. Allen's included death certificate states that his father was named John W. or M?.BERRY and his mother Mary, residence Serrisville, Ohio. He was age 53 yrs, 9 months, 18 days at time of death on December 27, 1894, according to certificate (born 9 Mar 1841) Allen BARRY in the 1850 census with Mary, Samuel, and John was age 8 (b abt 1842). And so this record makes me wonder if William and Allen both collaborated for John W. or M.? to trade names with his father William H.S.? Thanks. Please respond by email. Dated 8/15/96
