Grades A, B, C, E, F, G and H may correspond to the current 7th-1st grades, respectively. This indicates that the students listed would have graduated from high school in the years 1892-1898 (if they continued their education that far). Note that prior to 1892, there was no high school classes offered and students had to go to Cincinnati for high school education. In 1892, the first two years of high school were offered in Norwood. It has been written that in 1895, the first regular four-year high school course was begun at the Marion Street School (North Norwood). The first Norwood high school graduating class was in 1899, one year after the youngest member participating in the 1887 closing ceremony would have graduated from high school.

There was only one school building in 1887.

Even though the program heading is for "Norwood Schools," there was only one school building in 1887. Four more rooms had been added to the so-called Central School that same year. The two colony schools (Northern School and the Southern School, a.k.a North Norwood or Marion Avenue and Williams Avenue Schools) were not built until five years later.
