Pitchforks

 

One of the most-used hand tools on a farm were the pitch forks.  Above are three styles of forks.  The 5-pronged fork on the left was used for handling medium texture material such as manure in bedding.  The 3-pronged fork was used for hay and straw.  The 10-pronged fork was used largely for handling eared corn and relatively fine textured materials.

 

The strap-hinge in the photo above, was the most common hinge found on the farm.
