JUDY DEETER

 

Judy Deeter is both the President of The Troy Historical Society and the Overfield Tavern Museum. She is a past member of the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center Executive Board and currently serves on the Hayner exhibit committee. She also has curated public exhibits and taught genealogy classes for the center.

Deeter is a local history writer. Her historical articles and “how to” genealogy pieces have been published in several newspaper and genealogy society publications. She currently is the historical writer for the website My Miami County. She is the author of the book VETERANS WHO APPLIED FOR LAND IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA 1851-1911 and she has researched and written portions of three other history books.

For over 25 years, she lived in Mission Viejo, Orange County, California. There, she was President of the South Orange County California Genealogical Society, Chair of the City of Mission Viejo Heritage Committee, District Director for the California State Society Daughters of the American Revolution, and volunteer at the National Archives Pacific Southwest Branch. As a National Archives Branch volunteer, she taught classes in military history and how to research U.S. Census records.
