Lewis L. Roe, born 14 July 1838, was a son of William Roe and Elizabeth Cummings.  He was born in Sussex Co., NJ. His family originally resided in Orange Co., NJ and decended from David Roe of that place.  Lewis migrated to Ohio with his family sometime before the Civil War.  He served in H Co., 8th Regiment OVI.  He was married to Elizabeth Simmons, daughter of Isaac Simmons and Minerva Simmons.  Lewis was a member of the GAR and Elizabeth was a member of the Order of Macabees.
