The State Ohio
On the fifth day of May in the year of our Lord, Eighteen hundred
And Eighteen, before Me the Subscriber President of the courts of common
pleas, for the fourth circuit of the State of Ohio, Personally Appeared
George Hill aged Sixty one years, A resident citisen of the United
States, at present residing in the county of Licking And State of Ohio
Aforesaid, Who being by Me first duly cautioned And Sworn according to
law, doth upon his oath Make the following Declaration in order to
obtain the provission of the late act of congress, entitled "An Act to
provide for certain persons engaged in the land and Naval Service of the
United States in the revolutionary War" That he inlisted some time in
the fall of the year 1779 in the County of Shanandoah in the State of
Virginia, for a Term of one year and Six in the Company commanded by
captain Ralph Groom, in the 2nd Regiment of the Virginia line, then he
joined his Regiment at Statesborough in North Carolina, and continued to
Serve in the Said Corps in the Servise of the United States until the
expiration of said Term, when he was honorably discharged from the
Service at Camden in South Carolina Deponent States that he was in
the battle of Guilford CourtHouse, at the batle of Camden -- & at the
Seige of Fort '96. he was with the Troops at the time of the battle of
Eutaw Springs but being Sick was not in the engagement. Deponent States
that he is in very reduced circumstances, and that he is in need of the
assistance of his Country for Support, and that he has no other evidence
now in his possession of his said Service And further he Saith not.

I William Wilson Judge as aforesaid do hereby certify that it has been
made appear to my satisfaction that the said George Hill did serve in
the Revolutionary War as stated in the foregoing deposition against the
common enemy on the continental establishment and also that he is now in
reduced circumstances in life and is in need of the assistance of his
country for support. And I now transmit the proceedings taken and had
before me to the secretary for the department of War agreeable to the
aforesaid act of Congress. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my
name officially at NewArk this 5th day of May AD 1818.
