Samuel P. Arnold




Born in Marietta, Washington County, Ohio, April 17, 1836; occupation, Carpenter. Enlisted in Co. G, 52nd Reg. O. V. I., August 12, 1862, for three years and served as drummer. Left Camp Dennison on the 25th of August, passing through Cincinnati to Lexington, Ky., where the regiment entered actual service, going to the relief of Gen. Nelson at Big Hill, and participated in the terrible retreat to Louisville, Ly. He was here taken sick with trouble of the liver and stomach, caused by exposure. Under the hardships of the march to Perryville and through the conflict and march to Nashville, his health gave way and he was taken to the hospital and afterward sent to the hospital at Gallatin, Tenn., for six weeks then back to Nashville again, where he was discharged for disability, February 6, 1863.
