Hamilton Wallace




Born in Fairfield, Jefferson County, Ohio, September 29, 1842; occupation, Farmer. Enlisted Aug. 15, 1862.

The description below is consolidated for: Thomas M. Burns; Hamilton Wallace; George Berry; Charles D. Roberts; as listed this way in the book as all four men served together and went through the war together, so each name will have their birth information and occupation and the paragraph below.

These four enlisted in Co. G, 52nd Reg., O. V. Infantry, for three years. They went into the Regiment at its organization and were with it as follows: At Big Hill or Richmond. From here the Regiment retired to Lexington, Kentucky, and on Sept. 1, 1862, moved with the column, acting as rear guard, toward Louisville. This march was one of the great hardship and suffering, telling fearfully on the troops. Thence from Louisville to the engagement at Perryville, participating in all the Regiment's marches to and from the following battle fields; Stone River, December 31, 1862 to Jan. 3, 1863; Chickamauga, September 19 to 23, 1863; seige of Chattanooga; Missionary Ridge, November 24, skirmishing till 29. Knoxville march began November 29 and ended about December 6. The return to Chattanooga began Dec. 15, ending the 19th. Buzzards Roost, February 25 to 27, 1864. Atlanta Campaign, or Sherman's March, began May 5, 1864. Resaca, May 13 to 16; Kenesaw or Lost Mountain, June 9 to 30; Peach Tree Creek, July 20; Siege of Atlanta, July 28 to Sept. 2; Jonesboro, Ga., August 19, 20 and 31 and Sept. 1 and 7; march to the sea, Nov. 16, ended by entering Savannah, Dec. 21. March up through the Carolinas; Goldsboro, March 21 to 24, 1865; Averysboro, N. C., March 15 and 16; Bentville, N. C., March 18 to 21; March to Richmond, Va., and on through to Washington, D. C., to the Grand Review, May 24, 1865 and mustered out June 3, 1865 at Washington, D. C.
