Ezra D. Lawrence




Born in Richmond, Jefferson County, Ohio, June 17, 1837. Enlisted in Co. G, 52nd Regiment, O. V. I., Aug. 13, 1862, and was with his regiment from the time it went out to the field, in August 1862, from Camp Dennison to Cincinnati and across to Covington and by rail road went to Lexington, Kentucky, and going into camp. Col. Dan McCook of the 52nd was made Commander of the post and all the troops about the city, and on August 30 was ordered to the relief of General Nelson, whose troops had suffered defeat and much loss at Big Hill, then on a retreating fighting march to Nashville, Tennessee, then to Edgefield and then to Mill Creek and back to Nashville, where Comrade Lawrence was discharged from the service in December 1862, on account of disability.
