The Richmond Band

In all organizations of a social nature and in entertainments, Music has its place and forms a prominent part. Since the organization of Harry Hale Post, we have had many occasions for music, vocal and instrumental. To the many Ladies and Gentleman who have always so kindly and pleasantly sang for us at our festivals and other entertainments, we extend our thanks and shall ever remember you kindly, knowing that while your songs are in unison with the tenets of the G. A. R. your hearts are true to our cause and the principles which bind us together.

The Richmond Band was organized July 14, 1883, an entire new organization of fourteen members, purchasing in New York City new and valuable instruments and in Columbus, Ohio, new uniforms, complete, well made and handsome in appearance. No Band in Eastern Ohio, of the same age, presents better equipments or furnishes better music, and it will discount fifty per sent many older bands pretending a reputation. We desire here to give this Band a place in our history, because it is patriotic to the core and because it has always played at our desire, without money but not without (Joe) Price. But playing for nothing is a give-away game and is more than the boys can stand. In all enterprises money is a heavy manufacturer of wind, and it is no exception when applied to this Band. No fears need much pressure. The boys have a safety valve always ready in the shape of a requisition for the richest and choicest music, and their chiefest joy is another new piece. They have a fine collection of music and play it well. To all Societies, Picnics, Excursions, Entertainments, the managers thereof, and all others, we can heartily and cheerfully recommend the Richmond Band. Their music will please you and they will give you value in full for your money. We append the names of the members:
