SARAH PAULINE THOMPSON FRANCIS

STEUBENVILLE----Sarah Pauline Thompson Francis, 99, of Steubenville died Sunday, April 20, 1997, at Trinity Medical Center East.
Born Aug. 20, 1897, in Smithfield, she was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Janetta (Nettie) Grove Thompson; her husband, attorney Marshall Francis, who died ct. 11, 1972; and a brother, Clarkson Bootes Thompson, who died in 1980.
She was a lifetime member and the oldest active member of the Woman's Club of Steubenville, OFWC-GFWC, and served as its president from 1956 to 1958. She also held membership in its various departments, including Fine Arts, Garden and American Home, and sand in the Woman's Club Chorus.
She was honored by the Ohio Federation of Women's Clubs in 1991 as the oldest active member.
She was a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 32 and a board member of the Jefferson County Museum Association and helped organize the Jefferson County Genealogical Society.
She served as the regent for the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution from 1946 to 1948, past president of Col. James Collier Chapter of the U. S. Daughters of 1812 and was an ordained elder at First Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are several cousins. Calling hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at McClave Chandler-Mills Funeral Home. Services will be conducted there 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Robert Shearer officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery. DAR services will be held today at 3 p.m.
