DEATH SUMMONS MRS. VREELAND




Stroke Fatal to Woman Prominent in Church, Club Circles




Mrs. Maritta Sisson Vreeland, wife of George W. Vreeland, general superintendent of the Weirton Steel Company, died suddenly at her home, 826 North Fourth street at 6 p.m., Monday evening. Her death followed almost instantly a stroke of paralysis. Her death was a shock to her many friends as she was quite prominent socially and was possessed of a very fine personality.


She was 52 years of age on Nov. 29, 1930. She was born at Binghampton, N. Y., the daughter of the late Charles F. Sisson, who was in the banking and general merchandising business in that city. Her ancestors were New England pioneers, her grandfather, Charles Sisson, who came from Connecticut, was the first merchant in Binghamton. Her mother, Mrs. Anna Cary Sisson, survives.


She was married to Mr. Vreeland 22 years ago and they have since resided here. Her husband and one son, George W. Vreeland, Jr., survive.


One brother and three sisters also survive: Benjamin F. Sisson, Mrs. Edith Whipple and Mrs. Edna Bowen, all of Binghamton, N. Y.; Mrs. Ida Craven, of Escanabia, Mich.


Mrs. Vreeland was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and was very active in the church work and member of one of its circles. She was an active member and a past officer in the Women's club and of the Country club and was active in chatitable work.


She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and other members of her family are members of the Colonial Dames.


She received her education after attending the public schools at La Salle Seminary at Auburndale, Mass.


Mrs. Vreeland's death is a distince loss in Steubenville where she had made so many friends during her residence here. One beautiful trait in her character and life was her thoughts continually for the welfare of others.
