Miss Margaret Purdy, Former Governess of McCullough Home, Dies in Wheeling

Holidays Cove, May 7, Miss Margaret K. Purdy 68, passed away on Friday morning at 2:30 O'clock in the Ohio Valley General Hospital in Wheeling. Miss Purdy's death was the result of a stroke of paralysis and a broken hop suffered six weeks ago.
Born on the Purdy farm in 1859, the daughter of the late Mary Jane Knox and James Purdy, pioneer settlers of Hancock County. Miss Purdy spent the greater part of her life in this community. The Purdy family settled in Hancock County in 1821, and the passing of Miss Purdy is the last of the familu in this county.
In early life, she was an in----- in the Deaf and Dumb school at Edgewood, Pittsburgh, Pa. In 1913, when the McCollough Home for Children at Yellow Creek was founded, Miss Purdy accepted a position at the home as Girls' Governeress, which she held for 13 years until a year ago when forced to retire due to advanced age.
Miss Purdy was affiliated with the Cove Presbyterian Church of the Cove for fifty-six years and a member of the D. A. R. of Steubenville.
Surviving to mourn her loss are two sisters, Mrs. Samuel McCune of Brilliant, Ohio and Mrs. George Stewart of St. Clairsville, Ohio.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock on Monday afternoon from the home of her sisters, Mrs. Samuel McCune in Brilliant, Ohio, where the body is now at rest. Rev. D. C. Morton of the Cove Presbyterian Church, assisted by Rev. C. G. Allen of Hollidays Cove, and Rev. H. G. McMillian of St. Clairsville will have charge of the service. Interment will be in the Three Springs Cemetery, Hancock County.
