Mrs. Lida McGowan Summoned by Death




Mrs. Lida McKeever McGowan, 88, died at 3:10 a.m. today in Ohio Valley Hospital after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Easton McGowan Sr., who died in 1952, and a son, John Easton McGowan Jr., who died in 1955.


Mrs. McGowan was born in Steubenville, Dec. 16, 1873, the daughter of Louella and John C. McKeever. She received her early education in the Steubenville public schools and then taught school for many years in Steubenville and Pittsburgh.


She was an organizing member of the YWCA Board in 1913. She also was one of the original members of the Steubenville DAR. She was a life long member of the First United Presbyterian Church. Mrs. McGowan was one of the original members of the King's Daughters Circle and in 1960 received a citation from the King's Daughters when the 75th anniversary of this organization was celebrated.


Mrs. McGowan was a member of the Steubenville Woman's Club and was the oldest living member of the Query Club. She was a member of the Steubenville Country Club.


Surviving are her sister, Mrs. Lucy Caldwell of Pittsburgh, her brother, Robert H. McKeever of Cincinnati and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Howard J. Stagg III of Weston, Mass. and four nieces and five nephews.


Friends may call at the McClave Funeral Home Friday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the McClave Chapel. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.
